Who needed an art gallery when you could just go down to your local Buick, Olds, Pontiac, Chevy or Cadillac dealership in the 1960s? Not only could you admire some of the most mouth-watering, gorgeous automotive designs... But you could drive it home, too! All those good looks also came with great mechanicals and quality interiors.
I absolutely agree with you on the 1960 Cadillac. The small changes from 59 are truly impressive when you take a moment to really compare the two. The 59 is iconic and I love it, but the 60 is a masterpiece in styling, advancing a design that was absolutely over the top into something tasteful. My favorite body style on these are the 6 window hardtop sedans.
I'm sure I've said it before, but I actually like the 68 more than the 67 Eldorado. I think the front cornering lamps were one of the best changes ever made.

If I’d been in the market for a personal luxury car in 1966, it would have been hard for me to choose between the Riviera and Toronado, although the Riv might have gotten the nod by a nose. Competitors of the day had some nice cars, but the breadth of beautiful GM cars was unmatched.

Like that 1960 Buick dashboard! My family had a beautiful bright red '65 Bel Air. Those '65-'66 Caddys were great and the '67-'68 looked even better when the headlights went canted forward. We traded in our '65 Bel Air for a '69 Grand Prix. Couldn't help getting one since our local Pontiac dealer lived next door and was parking his GP demonstrator in front of his house and Mom fell for it.

For me it was the '66 Toronado that made me stop and stare, wondering what planet that car came from. I was a 12 year old kid that was just beginning to be interested in automobiles. I think seeing that car made me start taking more notice of the styling of all cars. And I appreciate the beauty of the '65 Impala much more than I did back then; probably because I saw it as an "old person's car" back then, and now I am one!

Damn that a hard task you took on! I'm with you on 99% except personally the 1968 Eldorado was a tad better looking that 1967. I remember seeing my 1st 67 in a parking lot, I was trying to figure out how I would fill in the gaps in the filler pieces on the front. I always thought if I bought one I'd bondo them hoping they wouldn't crack. Anyway.... 1968, better front with turn signals moved, added rear 1/4 panel round running lamp with crest on it, full tail lamp with better chrome accent. IMO. Great video thanks for posting!

Thank you for a great selection of beautiful cars, Adam. GM design under Bill Mitchell remains a high point for automotive design in the U.S. and probably the world. As to your #1 pick - yeah! When one of those Eldorado's appeared in traffic you couldn't help but give it a second or even third glance. They set the standard for expensive automobiles in their day from a sporty yet elegant design perspective as well as their advanced FWD engineering. Indeed, they set the pattern for Cadillac design until the 1976 Seville was introduced. The one element that really sets all of these GM cars above the herd is the beautiful surface development, no matter what the overall theme is for each of them. That group of designers put the finishing touches in each of those vehicles' body surfaces to get the most visual interest. You mentioned the gorgeous fender peaks on the 1965 Pontiac Grand Prix as a prime example. These vehicles really set a standard. When my tired eyes see something like that stupid, ponderous new Jaguar with it's blocky, uninteresting cement-like forms or that stainless steel dumpster-on-wheels Tesla cyber truck I almost lose my lunch. Thanks again for this exercise in true automotive beauty!

Still on vacation, Adam? Hard to argue with your picks. As a child the first car I remember my dad owning was a ‘58 Pontiac Chieftain which he replaced with the car that was his absolute favorite… a midnight blue ‘60 Buick Invicta. The Invicta was placed between the LeSabre and Electra and was considered the “performance” model as it had the LaSabre’s wheelbase but the Electra’s 401 Fireball V-8. After ‘63 Buick dropped the Invicta name in favor of the Wildcat. Nice to see the photos you included are Invictas. Cheers! 👍👍👍

Adam, you got this one right with your #1 pick! Somehow I knew before I watched the video, that the 67 Eldorado would be number one. I would absolutely love to see one of these cars in person. I'm a Buick guy because my dad was, and I love them. This car is GM design at its best. I can only imagine what the designers, and the people who had the stamp all the parts had to go through to make this a reality. The 67 eldorado was definitely a landmark car for Cadillac. Being able to see and look over one of these in person is on my bucket list.I love your channel! The 68- 71 Grand Prix are a top on my list also,It's a car that in my eyes just looks right.DeLorean even gave a Duesenburg reference to the GP with the the model J ,and the SSJ. If you look at that front end of the 71 and 72 GP, and the boat tail look at the rear,it all comes together.Once again Adam, well done!

I thought for sure the '65 Pontiacs would be your number one, since you often say they were some of the most beautiful cars ever produced.
My parents had a 1965 Chevrolet Impala sedan in a silvery blue. Some neighbors of ours at the same time had a sage green 1960 Buick Electra sedan.
Another big change for the '65 Cadillacs was that they were said to be the first Cadillacs since 1947 that didn't have fins at the back. People today think that those sharp rear fender lines on the '65 and later Cadillacs are fins, but they weren't considered to be fins at the time. Compare the '64s to the '65s and you'll see the difference.

I’d have to give the nod to the ‘67 Riviera although I’ve always been partial to the ‘69-‘72 Grand Prix. I took my driver’s test in a ‘71 GP on my 16th birthday.

Adam, as soon as you mentioned the countdown, the 67 Eldorado popped into my mind. I remember having a friction powered 67 Eldorado toy. It was finished in a beautiful dark metallic blue. Not sure if that was an actual Cadillac colour, but it was stunning. I think you put together an incredible list. It's too bad that today, the automotive world is dominated by boxy SUVs, with very little distinguish between them.

Thanks, I remember that 1965 was a great year for auto design and as 11 years old I went to my first new car show and truly discovered auto design and styling. The entire full size line of cars for all big three GM, Ford and Chrysler were all new for 65 and other great cars were also new like the original Mustang. Overall GM had the best looking full size cars in my opinion.

Good morning, Adam! You nailed it! I have one suggestion. Swap the 1968 Caprice for the 1965. The 1968 took the “Baby Cadillac” moniker to a new level: hidden headlights and wipers, cool dashboard and new knobs, elegant fabrics, cool roofline, new taillights.
After you ponder that, let’s have a collective conversation about the hysterical comments about the 00 Jag. Perfectly named because it will come to naught. Thanks, Adam!

Grandpa purchased a new 60's Buick; in those days, the salesman drove the car to your house for a demonstration, He went through two different models before choosing a striped down no carpet no radio with crank windows, (farmer that didn't need fancy stuff) the speedo mirror was on a spin wheel so you go tilt it to your selected eye viewing, it also had a roller knob to set your desired max. speed started to buzz.

I agree with many of your choices. I believe the ‘67 Eldorado is the most beautiful Cadillac of any decade, not just the ‘60’s.
Not a fan of the bloated ‘60 Cadillac. It’s not as hideous as the ‘59, but still looks like it needs a prescription for Ozempic. I was interested in your inclusion of the ‘60 Buick. I’ve always thought this year a lesser ‘59, but saw the car in a different light after your analysis. Still a number of Buicks that I would have chosen ahead of the ‘60. The ‘65 and ‘67 LeSaber, Wildcat and Electra were stunning cars. I’d have picked one of them over the ‘60. Also, I would have included a ‘67 or ‘68 Cadillac. I think they’re better looking than the ‘65 in every form, but especially in the Fleetwood ‘60 Special without a vinyl top. The lines of this car are magnificent. Still a great selection of cars.
