    At 6:45, I just handled the A6500 and A6400 side by side. In the hands with the 18-135 (sony) attached on both and the A6500 grip is deeper and better to hold. More room for your pinky on the A6500. One big issue for the A6500 that I dont know if it was fixed but the Sunny weather option. The A6500's LCD is completely useless in an outdoor situation with any normal daylight. Defeats the purpose of using the tilting LCD when the EVF is not practical to use for high or low angle shots and for general video use when you dont want to use the EVF and really need the LCD. The A6400 should have had IBIS at this point.

    I'd buy fuji xt30 in a heart beat (literally) if fuji put an articulating screen or at least flip up screen. I want a camera that can take nice stills photo and also for recording video. Flip up screen of a6400 is not perfect but there's workaround for mic input. Why Fuji can give XT100 an articulating screen but no such screen for XT30?

    • @John1986ATR
      @John1986ATR 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agree, they missed trick with that. It isn't like they haven't designed a reasonable articulating screen.

    • @FlyByFrancis
      @FlyByFrancis 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Most camera companies don’t include certain key features because they want people to buy different cameras. If they put all of the features in one camera, everyone would only buy that one camera.
      The resale value of their other cameras will drop. Then their competition will start doing the same and pretty soon each company has cannibalized their older cameras

    • @adinwalls
      @adinwalls 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eins MY yes. I am a Fuji user and it frustrates me that they won’t fit the incredible articulating screen from their budget X-T100. I would gladly send my X-H1 to the factory to have that amazing screen fitted. I think they feel articulating screens are for weekend family users, not pros... have they seen any TH-cam videos?!

    • @adinwalls
      @adinwalls 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      FlybyFrancis yes. But why would they want people to buy their cheaper xT100 over their high budget cameras. It really doesn’t make sense. So, in the end, Canon is still the best vlogging brand.

    • @Innovate-pq9ci
      @Innovate-pq9ci 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why? I think it's because of heat dissipation issues. Same reason why the new Panasonic S1 didn't get a flip out, I believe. Fujifilm design is completly different than Sony on the inside and I'd say Fujifilm is super careful with heat management in general. Behind the screen is where most of the heat gets dissipated on the Fujifs and I think the flip-out screen makes it less easy to do that. The XT100 uses a bayer CFA so it uses much less processing power thus less heat, so it's probably a reason why they could use a flip-out screen screen.

    For me, the Fuji wins hands down. The firmware updates every few months bringing new features from their recently released cameras makes the system a whole lot better on the long term. The lenses from Fuji are almost hands down better - they're smaller and lighter, but offer great image quality, while mostly offering better apertures than their Sony counterparts. Not to say that Sony is bad, but if you want to get a Sony, go full frame. APS-C feels much more like an after-thought to me.

    • @michaelmao6180
      @michaelmao6180 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, btw. I'd admit Sony has more usable video features. 10 to 15 minutes time limit on video isn't really usable. But, you do get better quality videos when you are shooting with the x-t30. So if you are doing serious filmmaking with a crew, x-t30 may be better (but why don't you get an x-t3 then) as very few takes would be more than 10 minutes (and you'd probably use an external recorder for this matter). But for vlogging and interviews, the a6400 wins. But still, why don't you get an x-t3 or an A7iii for a few extra hundred dollars if you really want video features. It's pointless trying to get an all-around "best" camera at this price range. For me, I don't do videos that much, so Fuji is by far a better choice.

    You actually sold me on the X-T3, rather than the 30! Not going to have the same overheating issues as the X-T30, plus the opening shots of you walking outside in this video show that either Fuji model is going to put Sony to shame in terms of colour and image profile. I think that's probably the dealbreaker point that allows the X-T3 to win over the Sony, as although it has superior autofocus, it isn't going to be significant enough in most situations as Fuji's is still pretty good itself.

    Excellent comparizon, I'll go, with a bleeding heart, with the A6400. I already own an A7III (happy-happy) and a couple of prime lenses as well as an older kit from my trusty A5100, _and_ the no limit video recording on the Sony wins here. You're absolutely right regarding the colors and details in resolution etc, Fuji is a fantastic choice anytime.
    I own a Fuji X70 and use it for documenting streets and events as well as for everyday use, like, I don't leave the house without my wallet, smartphone and X70. If I could afford it I'd go for another Fuji just for the fun of ii and no brainer jpeg shooting. But since I need a second camera that will mostly do video (interviews, scene coverage at events etc) the A6400 is a natural choice. Thanks for the video here!

    If stills are the priority, and you don't need crazy tracking sports AF, the Fuji is the better system. Better colors, better lens selection at all price points, and continual firmware updates. I ditched my Sony mirrorless because even though the output was very impressive, it just felt like using a picture taking computer. Moving to Fuji, the camera's straightforward controls and beautiful colors just struck a chord that made it feel like a real camera, and way more fun to shoot with.

    There are some problems with the iso of the fujifilm's cameras.Although most of the cameras' actual iso are lower than the marked iso, the fujifilm's camera actual is much lower than its marked iso campare to the others' cameras. I wouldn't say fujifilm is cheating in the marking the iso, but it is really difficult to compare the low light performance between cameras of fujifilm and the others,which is the reason that DXO stop making reviews for the newest fujifilm's cameras. In conclusion, the low light performance of fujifilm's cameras aren't as good as we've 'seen'.

    It's such a pity that people who review cameras don't do their homework. OSS lenses is the only stabilisation A6400 has. OSS is Optical SteadyShot. The key word is optical. There is no electronic stabilisation in any ILC Sony camera.

      I'm humble enough to admit when I'm wrong. After a discussion with the Sony rep, I can confirm there is not stability outside of lens stability in the A6400. To my credit, he did say "[it's] kinda easy to get confused there's so many different flavors of steady shot. Digital steady shot, optical steady shot, balanced optical steady shot, steady shot inside."
      In my defense, I get these cameras for basically a day or two - and in that day I have to test and fact check every element, record a long talk to camera, and edit. I'm going to make mistakes. Every single TH-camr does because you can't get everything right when a camera (in my case - two) fall on your lap and you have to turn out a review in 48 hours. I appreciate your comments and opinions, minus the troll-like name calling. I endeavour to be as accurate as possible, and own up when I'm wrong.

    What all reviewers seem to get wrong is the definition of Vlogging. Vlogging is not just walking with your camera. You can also vlog by putting your camera on a tripod and in that case the 6400 works great as a vlogging camera. If you are on the move then it's not good because it has no stabilization and bad rolling shutter.

    Hi. GREAT BOOGLYWOOGLY! I need help Vistek, or anyone. I have been comparing the Fujifilm X-T2 to the Sony A7 III for purchase, because I thought the Fujifilm X-T2 and the Sony A7 III were the equally equipped and capable cameras to be evaluating. Should I instead have been comparing the X-T2 to the a6500, please? Also, exactly how much "worse" IS the Sony a6500 color compared to Fujifilm color. I mean really now, will a color photo of a song bird during breeding season look like a black and white photo compared to a Fujifilm color photo of a bird or what? I am looking at a nice price of a Sony a6500 with an 18-135 lens or some higher zoom lenses. Fuji glass gets expensive fast moving up to higher zoom rates containing OIS compared to whats available for Sony. Also, when using Sony's a6500 with 5 axis image stabilization on a tripod, and in a situation of equal stability and focus of both cameras, exactly how BAD IS Sony glass if I am "just" taking pictures and video to post in my website? I mean really, will people be saying "Wow those photos and videos suck, he probably used a Sony?" I'm going crazy deciding I tell ya!
    Thanks!!!

    1. Sony has better battery management despite smaller battery and will definitely outlast Fuji in video recording.

    1080p60 quality on the X-T30 (or even past Fuji cameras) is much better than Sony's...they oversample 1080p unlike line skipping in Sony (except A7S series) and Canon. That along with the 10bit 422 out and decent PDAF is an amazing value proposition BUT I am heavily invested in the Sony E mount system (lenses, batteries) and will wait for one more Sony launch event before selling it all and moving to X-mount.

My plan is to make a footage in the night where the only light maybe just come from my torchlight or star/moon in the sky. I don't know if A7s have bad blue light. I don't need to make my video really bright but come so much noise, but just enough to make it natural dark as my eyes can see is enough. Hi Ammgad. Thanks for the great comment. Good question about lenses. Certainly if you already own canon EF lenses, then you can buy a smart adaptor (metabones, for example), and thus saving you from having to purchase a whole new set of lenses. I've had pretty good luck shooting with EF glass + adaptor on E mount cameras. I have no idea whether the same can be said for Fuji. You can also get a dumb adaptor for both cameras if you are ok to lose the auto focus feature. I have a full set of manual lenses that I love and use nearly daily. I can get away with this of course, because I don't shoot sports, or weddings, etc. So, this only works for a small handful of shooters. Good luck!

    Thanks for the this video, nice comparison. I wondered a bit at the ISO part; I had always in mind that the Fujis are way better performers at higher ISO values (usable up to ~12000)? Especially when it comes to color noise? Have you compared that or is there no difference that you would have noticed? Also, the new Sony AF concept is said to be somehow more intelligent and adapting with respect to the situation, without intervention by the user. Is that the same for the Fuji in practice? And how is the Fuji Joystick performing? Thanks! ;D

    • @vistek
      @vistek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Max. Thanks for your comment. I didn't test at ISOs above 6400, as I never (personally) go above those levels. Usually the image is bad enough for me not to use that a viable tool in my exposure kit. So I can't really address that. In terms of which was better - as I hopefully communicated in the video, I really think they are equal. But also don't hold me to that. Noise, ESPECIALLY compression noise - has almost everything to do with what the scene is and if the camera (or scene) is moving. So you can, in practice, take these very two cameras and in your own unique shooting scenario find different results. For this reason, I caution anyone to treat any video samples from any online review with suspect. You really need to do your own tests. Yes, that's a pain - and it might involve borrowing, renting, or chancing a full purchase to find out.
      In terms of the AF, it was pretty clear to me that Sony's worked better out of the box. But here's another thing - as a shooter, both for photos and video, I almost never use AF. I'm a manual focus all the way kind of guy. I do use AF-C for light gimbal work, but that's about it. So, what I'm saying is that there are a host of ways one can manipulate and control a camera's AF - of which I never do. So in the hands of someone who say, shoots sports, the AF experience may be different. Again, personal testing is the only way to answer this question for yourself.
      As for the joystick - I haven't found a better system. I have a joystick on my A7iii and I use it all the time. It's one of the best design concepts for cameras to come along in years. But again - personal opinion/experience. I'm sure there will be a long line of trolls stepping up to tell me I'm an idiot for liking joysticks and how I'm wrong. So.... personal preference. That's all I'll say about that. Cheers! - D

      Hi Murilo, X-T30 had the 18-55 2.8-4.5, Sony was a G-Master lens, which are their premium lenses. Can't recall the focal length - but it zoomed past 100, I remember that. In the section where I compared skin tones, I took the lenses out of the equation - I collect various adaptors for my manual lenses and I used the same Takumar 85 1.8 on both cameras at the exact same stop.

    which is better as a first camera? Sony a6400 or Fuji X-T30? I plan to use the HDMI output recording for long hours of streaming/recording. I love the X-T30 having no rolling shutter but I am worried it would not be able to do long external recording sessions (overheating or camera shutting down on its own). any advice?

    • @vistek
      @vistek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi JediLato - hard to answer that without extensive long-term testing of both cameras. My feeling is that even though overheating issues have been rectified in the A6400, Sony cameras have had a history of heat issues, or at least more than FujiFilm. FujiFilm seems (just my opinion here) to hold back on tech in favour of better and more reliable operation, whereas Sony seems to charge forward with the highest tech possible at risk of reliability. There isn't a right or wrong here - just a different approach to market demands. Sony's AF makes it an excellent choice for gimbal work, but for my money (personal preferences), I much prefer the colour and gamma out of the Fujifilm cameras. I don't expect they would have any heat issues recording externally.
