How to play The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel - Guitar Lesson Tutorial

In this guitar lesson tutorial, we look at how to play the Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel. The song was written by Paul Simon in 1963/64 and appeared on the duo’s first album ‘Wednesday Morning 3.A.M’.
The first verse of the song is fingerpicked, probably using a thumb pick, and uses the chords of Am, G, C, F, Asus2 and Fmaj7. The rest of the verses are strummed using the same chord sequence with a rhythm of 1 2+3 4+, played using downstrokes. The song finishes with two bars of fingerpicking and a single strummed Asus2 chord play with an upstroke.
