  • I've had the Gunvault multi vault safe for about 6 months and have been using it with AC and battery power and I go over the features of the safe, what I think of it overall, and how it can be used in a layered security system.

    I just want to put a shout out to their customer service. I own two of their boxes and when one of them failed three years past warranty expiration, I called customer service to ask if they’d sell me the parts so I could repair the unit. They said they stand behind their products and sent me a brand new biometric microvault the next day with a prepaid return label for my broken unit. That was 5 years ago, and no problems since. I’m a customer for life.

      Mike S I had the EXACT opposite
      Situation. Something's wrong with mine and and the wiring is draining the 9v battery and requires a new one monthly, then doesn't give me any indication the battery is dying until I try and open it and it just stays locked. . I contacted customer support, 1 month past the 1 year warranty. I asked for help how to fix it or replace it since that could get me killed if I needed access to it and the battery was dead. They basically told me to go pound sand and make sure any batteries I buy have an expiration date 5 years out.

    I've had my GunVaultBio 2000 on my nightstand since 2006 and can tell you first hand that the biometrics on these can absolutely be trusted. Also, I have only changed the 9 volt one time over that time period. I did end up loosing the power cord when I moved once so its been about 6 years now that I've been running on that battery alone, still not one issue. Just want to say folks, have no fear with these, it reads mine and my wife's fingerprints with out fault and I've never even had to reprogram it.

    I've had this same vault in operation for over 5 years. In the armoire next to the bed. My wife's Walther CCP & my Sig P226 40 with laser/light there every day. Enough room to toss in my Shield if need to temporarily. I have mine bolted to the shelf. Good review - good product.

    Mike, I bought an earlier version of this pistol safe about 20 years ago. It's the same company and outer design yet the battery compartment is different in that mine takes 8 AA batteries. This safe has never failed me, yet I enjoy having the soda machine keys as a backup. BTW, the door opens with authority so be aware of this or your knuckles will be smacked. Great review Mike, as usual. Thanks bro.

    I have had the older version no alarm, no light and no A/C adapter, for about 3yrs. mine takes 8 AA batteries that last about a year maybe a little more. never had a problem with it opening. sits beside my bed with a Ruger p89 dc stainless, a Kahr CW 9 and my Glock19 gen4. I like the upgrades they have done, the 9 volt battery is cool, the light could be useful. I may have to upgrade.

    i've had this safe for about 9 months and i've never had any problems with it. it always opens, as long as i hit the buttons right! i'd say i open it up around 3-4 times a week.
    i keep a HK USP45 full size with the tlr-3 weapon light on the top shelf, and a 6" S&W 686+ on the lower shelf. i could definitely fit another pistol on each shelf for a comfortable capacity of 4 handguns. i just can't afford the handguns right now lol

    The center dividing shelf can be a bit flimsy and not lock in firmly. The fix for that is putting black electrical tape on the edges until it locks in tight.

    20 years for mine. It has been a good safe but now the foam has failed and started to crumble. Gun Vault doesn’t sell replacement foam kits so I think their support is marginal. Finding and cutting replacement foam is a pain. Mine uses eight AA batteries.

  • @2006Whippet

    I wonder if you could remove the center shelf and then fit in one of those vertical pistol racks in there. Then you could put 5-6 pistols pistols in it.

    I had the same one about 6 or 7 years ago. The wire that opened the door when using the keypad broke on mine after regular use over a couple years. The barrel lock still worked so I was able to open. I just wasn’t impressed with the engineering behind it. I replaced it with one from Fort Knox which uses a mechanical lock (push button) that doesn’t require batteries or power.

    I just came from Patricks video yall made, Idk how I never saw any of your videos. That's cool that it has a back up battery just in case the power is out. I'm not a fan of relying on anything electrical for firearms, especially emergency stuff, so red dots are out, I put night sights on everything, lights on my carry gun are out, and I constantly check the light on my nightstand gun to make sure it works if I need it. My fear is to have to use it and the batteries be dead.

    • @Murphy82nd
      @Murphy82nd 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a line between caution and paranoia and it's not always easy to walk. For a long time the prevailing wisdom was all electronics fail. With electro-optic options from Aimpoint and Trijicon out there, or heck Elcan if you're really wealthy, I think your chances of a failure are rather small. Obviously anything can fail and all individual components should be tested for a period of time before I'd rely on them fully. There are red dots now that will last 5 years being on constantly with a single battery. You could always replace the battery every year out of caution and likely be just fine. I would always make sure you have some form of light for carry, attached or not attached to the pistol is your choice, but being able to identify a threat is critical. I am never without a light. I use the light at least weekly; thankfully not so with the pistol.

    • @HickLif3
      @HickLif3 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Murphy82nd trust me i do carry a light, and i use it at least once a day. Its just not attached to my gun lol. I do love the trijicon sights. I used an acog on my service rifle through 2 deployments. They are just expensive. I know the red dots can last a long time but i like having that piece of mind of not worrying about the batteries

    • @Murphy82nd
      @Murphy82nd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      HickLife there also nothing that stops you from having a red dot and a pair of back up irons.

    • @HickLif3
      @HickLif3 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Murphy82nd that’s right, we all have our own opinions. To me if am going to need my gun it’s going to happen fast, and up close and I’ll likely not even use my sights. So with that thought i practice quick action drills under 15 yards, trying to drive home the muscle memory so its one less thing to focus on during a high stress situation.

    • @Murphy82nd
      @Murphy82nd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      HickLife sure, but just because a red dot is on there doesn’t mean you have to use it for very close shots. It’s nice to have it if you do decide to use it. At 15 yds I’m using sights personally. A red dot is acquired as soon as you shoulder the rifle. Not having to hunt for it is one of the advantages.
