Today we are installing trailer accessory lights on the same Audi Q7 from the last video. This Tekonsha Wire kits works great because this vehicle it leased and we do NOT want to cut or splice any factory wires to avoid any damage. Audi can be very picky with lights and we don't want any lights on the dash popping up either.
This kit attaches to the existing wire and picks up the signal traveling through the wire. Very easy to install and remove. Even easier if your battery is the back (LIKE EVERY OTHER AUDI) except the Q7 has it located in the front passenger floorboard, of course. The install for the Q5 would be different due to this.

Hey man the video really helped because the instructions that come with the unit are crap. Took about 3 hours of which most of the time was spent running the power wire and putting the interior back together - fighting Audi panel Clips to no end.

Did you have to reprogram the module after you added the hitch? I've read that the parking sensors, cameras etc all freaked out if it is not. I'm looking to add a hitch to my 2017 Prestige 3.0 and would like to know everything about it before I start. Thanks!
No, not on this one at least. It never made the sensors go off after adding the hitch. We did however have to wire a 5th wire in for a specific trailer so the brake assist would work om the trailer. That was a pain because the lights are in the bumper that have to be wired to. But that is very specific to his trailer he has.

Need your advice, I have a UK Import Audi and apparently it is not towbar prepped. i.e cross member at the back and wiring setup for trailer. Did this Audi have it? Am i screwed, or is it possible to get a aftermarket towbar installed and wired? Audi quoted me like $3500+ to have it done.

@@zaneandjonistevenson639 correct, we even had to change the lower piece of the bumper so it would fit.
Did the lights work correctly? I did the same install on my 2019 Q7 and then I turn on right turn signal it turns on both signals at the harness. Everything else works fine.
Yes, they did work properly. Try switching the wire on the right side, you may have it hooked up to the wrong one if both are flashing. Let me know if you fix it, happy to help more either way🤟🏼

can i ask a question, i've got audi q7 2007 but led light on trailer doesn't work and normal light when i brake signal ights wrk as well, does this would solve my problem?

Would it be viable to run the power to the cigarette lighter in the back near the spare tyre instead of all the way to the battery?
That's actually not a terrible idea, however, I can't guarantee that it would work. Best to go straight to the battery.
If you find a way around it or the cigarette lighter works, definitely update us!

I totally forgot to update you guys. As Jason said, it works. We bought and spliced on a cigarette lighter end onto the cable and when not in use it fits nicely in that little flap compartment on the inside of the door

i have done exactly like you said but my running light is always on and when i brake my signal light turns on as well, why is it?

When i turn my left turn signal my right goes on and when i turn the right my right does too
Interesting. Have you sorted this out? Maybe try switching the wire?
