I'm in my early 60s, and I just developed trigger finger a couple months ago. Didn't really notice it much at first, but then suddenly realized something wasn't right with my right hand ring finger not extending smoothly like all the other fingers. I had no idea what the problem was, and had never even heard of this condition before I started looking up my symptoms a few weeks ago. So this video is very timely for me! Thanks!

Thank you so much. Wow, once again, you are brilliant. I am 72 and this year I got trigger finger very badly in both hands. Both thumbs were the worst along with several other fingers on both hands in various degrees of pain and dysfunction. I no longer possessed opposable thumbs. Human beings are gifted with opposable thumbs and its what makes our species successful. Well, I did not have that feature even a tiny bit. I had to go to a hand specialist and I had a succession of wrist and finger splints and a steroid injections to start off. It was a long ordeal. I discovered on my own, that pressing on that area of my thumbs was painful but in a good way and when I stopped the pressing, I felt a warm surge of relief in that finger. I wish I had seen this video earlier, You two would have saved me several months of various splints and appointments.

Your older videos on trigger finger helped me tremendously. My trigger thumb disappeared and never came back. Like Brad, I have a recurrent problem with a middle finger. The techniques work well. I have recently discovered that in my sleep, I often put a hand under my head when side-lying, and when I wake up, I have a locked trigger finger, taking a while to get it loosened. I'm trying to figure out a comfortable way to prevent myself from doing that in my sleep. -- Thank y'all for your invaluable help in so many areas! I agree with your methods of releasing the trigger fingers but not why it happens, at least not in my situation. In my case it doesn't seem to be scar tissue but an intense inflammatory response to lectins and in particular to nightshade fruit skins and seeds. If I eat a whole tomato, I'll develop a trigger finger within one hour and painful foot arches. Keeping away from wheat, oats and tomatoes allows my body to work beautifully with no cramps, trigger fingers, tight muscles.

I agree with the suggestions made. But I had a painful trigger finger which tormented me for a good year -- one so bad that simple hard massaging didn’t work. . After watching some videos of therapeutists using a rubber mallet and a chisel-looking tool on tight muscles, I had this idea of simply repeatedly hammering down the part of my palm where I felt the scar tissue was with a plastic rod that had a protrusion in the end. Ever so suddenly, my trigger finger was gone. Yes, just like that. I guess the hammering down broke the scar tissue (or whatever it was) effectively. You can hammer down on it with practically anything available.

I have to slide an ice pack edge between my trigger finger and palm, over the knuckle, and hold it there for a few minutes, before I can get enough space to massage it. I think I am getting a lot of inflamation, and so this reduces a bit of the swelling. It is very painful. I once had my finger lock completely against my palm, flat and straight down. It looked very strange. It seemed that the tendon was dislocated off the bone, if that is possible.

Well that's ironic. I've been waiting three years or something for my ten second steroid injection appointment, and you upload this the day before the appointment xD My left ring finger seemed to go away on its own, atm my right ring finger locks up. I can deal with that, I find lifting the tip of the finger releases it without as much pain. It's the left index finger messing me up more, I can't close the finger anymore. They've been going on for years now, they get tiresome in ahurry

How about nutritional fixes? For the past 3 years plus, I have changed my diet, away from the Standard American Diet to a Ketogenic and now a Carnivore way of eating. I eliminated all grains, complex carbohydrates, like potatoes, beans and other starchy vegetables and all so called vegetable oils that are actually seed oils. In addition, I take Cod Liver oil and DHA/EPA Fish Oils daily and eat seafood, every other day. As a result, I have reduced my inflammatory Omega 6 fatty acids and increased the good Omega-3 fatty acids to a ratio of less than 4 to 1. Most people have a 20 to 1 ratio. 1 to 1 is ideal. The trigger finger in both ring fingers, that surgery was the only recommendation for, has completely disappeared. Previously I had gone through multiple therapy sessions and self massage and stretching without any improvement. Many joint and muscle issues are caused by improper nutrition and deficiencies.

I used to get trigger finger in the middle finger. I finally realized that when I drank a lot of cow's milk it would come on. Since I've quit drinking any cow's milk I have not had a single incident of it. A coworker one day mentioned that her husband was having this issue and I told her about how it helped me to stop drinking cow's milk. Her husband tried it and it actually worked for him as well.

I had very painful trigger finger, middle finger left hand (I am left-handed). It hurt so bad that I put a splint on it to keep it from bending. Left the splint on for one month; when I removed the splint the pain and locking up were gone and have never returned. That was six years ago!

My famous hand and wrist medical doctor,a surgeon, never told me about this ,I wonder why? lol
I get one steroid injection in the finger and it's over right away but the Dr. of course wants surgery done asap.

I have the ring finger doing that! I PT showed me how to fix it and it was the same method and also with a massage machine.

@ Bob & Brad: Are there any remedies for pinky lock? Trying to address it on my own through experimentation, but would welcome any helpful advice. Trying to learn to play the cello, and need a pinky that "behaves". Please and thank you.

I have trigger finger in my right hand in the finger that's between my pinky finger and my middle finger..
I have a 2-part question about trigger finger..
    1st question:
    What causes trigger finger?
    2nd question:
If trigger finger can form on its own, why can't trigger finger heal up on its own without surgery?

I first got it in my left pinky. That one I was able to massage out the forearm and hand and it got better. My ring finger on my right hand is brutal. Need help.

Is it also considered Trigger Finger if the finger gets stuck in the straight position? My husband’s middle finger will get stuck if he has been working on woodwork projects or trying to fix smaller things.

    • @BobandBrad
      @BobandBrad  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, it can get stuck straight as well as bent
