For DC Comics Multiverse Signature Collection Batman Forever Figure KITBASH

  • OK Super Friends, so this is my first attempt at swapping out a different cape in place of the current cape that come installed on the new DC Comics Multiverse Signature Collection Val Kilmer Batman Forever action figure. I used a MAFEX Dark Knight Rises cape because that figure is annoying and also I have a few of it. You can also find custom tailored Batman capes for 1:12 scale figures on ebay or even make one yourself if you have the kills. This is my attempt to improve this Batman figure.

    There's a great fabric at Joanne's fabrics meant for cosplayer capes that's sort of a thin pleather that doesn't curl up, hangs great and is extremely inexpensive especially for the quality I use for all my capes. It comes in red, blue and black. All you need is a cheap thin pizza pan or pie pan that's around 12-14 inches in circumference and a rolling fabric cutter. Place it on top of the fabric and roll your cutter around it from a little more than the halfway point(about 2 inches) of the pan. Draw a vertical line through the center of it(something that's easily wiped off) take some double sided tape and place a piece on either side of the figure where the cape is going to connect. Stick the cape onto that lining up that line you drew so it's centered going up his/her back and cut the excess around the area off with a exacto or your fabric cutter. Some lock tight or other glue depending on the figure. You can get a bag of bendy wire that's covered with that fuzzy stuff for a dollar at places like Walmart, just burn that stuff off with a lighter.place a piece on each side going up anywhere from 50-80 percent of the edge of the cape and glue or stitch over some material(hence the extra inch or two) and now you have a nice natural looking cape that can be posed anyway you like without looking like the crap bendy wire capes most companies throw at us, plus the added bit of weight keeps the cape hanging extremely well on the figure for basic stationary looking poses. For about 15 bucks total you can make about 8 of these capes. After that all you'll need is to keep buying squares of fabric and reuse all the other supplies that should get you around 50 total. I make 1/12 scale soft goods for any high volume, big or store figures that have great head sculpts and use that new printing tech. Have a pretty large collection of homemade mezco one:12 figures that fit right in with my mezco displays.

      Do you happen to know the *"EXACT"* name for the fabric??
      I went into Joanne's tonight looking for it and wound up running across several types of fabrics like the one you described! I really like the look of this fabric with the figure so I want to get the exact right fabric! Please let us know the exact name or email me from my channel and let me know. Thanks. Hope to find out soon cause I want to do this

    I just got this Batman and the cape on mine is attached where it should be like you describe at the beginning of your video. Yours is definitely not attached correctly. Hoever you did an amazing job modifying it. Well done!
    The cape on mine opens up and looks like the one on the back of the box. My issue with it is that's basically all it does. When you try to fold it behind him it won't stay. Also mine was all wrinkled in the back part of the neck. Whoever packaged didn't seem to care. I was able to smooth it out a bit.
    Overall I love everything else about the figure and for the price it's very cool to get a stand, extra hands and a grapple gun. I don't mind the face and ears and yes there's a neck hinge. You just need to loosen up his head a little and it works! For those who collect Batman action figures and the like this is a must have! Thanks for the video.

    This is a Mattel figure, not NECA or Mafex, so I wouldn't expect spot-on accuracy. But the cape situation annoys me. A shame it's inaccurate as it seems to be a nice figure otherwise. It looks way too much like a pain in the neck (pun intended) to bother changing the cape on this one, though. I'll probably pick this up to display with my NECA Adam West, Michael Keaton and Christian Bale 7" figures until a more accurate one is made. And then all I'd want is a George Clooney figure just to complete a movie collection.

    I customize figures all the time. I recently attempted to split the torso of a Marvel Legends figure, as I needed the arms to customize a DC figure I was working on, and the torso (best I can tell) is a completely solid piece. I still haven't been able to break it apart. I've tried everything. I've even drilled into it with a power drill, and no matter how deep I go it's still completely solid. It's as if the figure itself was created to be uncustomizable. I just don't know how I'm supposed to get it apart. It hasn't got an ab crunch like most ML's, and there are no seams where the front and back attach together. I guess next I'll try to saw it right down the center chest as the torso is unsalvageable at this point anyway. It's a real pain though.

    A lot of kids hate on this movie but fail to recognize that the sonar suit from this film is one of the all time greats and the first real life film to use a larger bat on the chest that all the rest of the movies used afterwards.

    Have this figure and not a fan of it. It’s not just the cape, it’s his posture too and the face looks nothing like Val Kilmer’s.

    Something that would help the cape curling as well as making any small cape drape more realisticly would be put small weights on the ends of the cape. Maybe glue a small metal doo dad to the ends of the cape.

    • @BradTheDCUniverseGeek
      @BradTheDCUniverseGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve considered weights before. I’m more on board with that idea rather than wires. Not a fan of wired capes but little weights can be hidden and look natural. 👍

    • @MisterSouji

    I think a nice shot of the cape spread out would be great in a video like this!

  • @SpoonDude
    @SpoonDude 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If I got this figure I'd definitely switch out the cape. I would also try to do it in a way that I don't have to pop out that hinge entirely because having essentially a broken hinge would drive me nuts when posing it

    • @BradTheDCUniverseGeek
      @BradTheDCUniverseGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The neck is only partially broken but still really really firm. It’s not wiggly in the slightest. There still is half the leg there for the neck to go back onto. Unfortunately it would be pretty much impossible to do the cape and not break the neck a little. You can’t peel the cowl back enough with the head attached. For some reason the ball joint just didn’t want to pop out of the head no matter how hot I got it. First time for everything I suppose. Lol.

  • @juanfelixsoto
    @juanfelixsoto 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You know when you see some one do something for the first time, you can see what can be improved. After taking the original cape off, and removing the bat symbol, I would have join together the two ends of the top of the cape with some tread. Then glued it to the back of the bat symbol. That way I won't need it to tuck it so much. It would be easy then to glued to the body.
