  • This walk takes in the three Munros on the north side of Glen Dessarry, Sgurr nan Coireachan, Garbh Chioch Mhor and Sgurr na Ciche, from the car park at the west end of Loch Arkaig..... still has to be the worst road in Scotland.
A superb weather day with very little wind. Just doesn't get any better.

A proper hill walk. I did the route CW but did not have the views you got. Only the long roller coaster drive along Lock Arkaig puts me off doing it again.

Great weather for another big day...I had similar weather for my traverse of these hills plus Sgurr Mhor and Sgurr an Fhurain (I'd camped at Sourlies) back in May 2015 .
Thanks for sharing your superb day!
    Cheers Alistair 👍

What a fantastic day you had on some of my favourite hills. Beautifully shot and edited video as usual. Did the ridge from Sgurr Mor in similar conditions and camped on Garbh Chioch Mor. Unparalleled views of the islands from Sgurr na Ciche and as you say, every hill showing. The wall raises so many questions though. Who made it and why??? (You could have started the video with the drive along Loch Arkaig as a public service warning!)

I really have got to say this. There are loads of hill walking videos on You Tube. But this one would be a good candidate for the gold-medal. Superb. I climbed this in 1982, from Barrisdale (agreed not the best approach), and the weather was not good. Tough country, and I was exhausted. What is that wonderful pointed peak in the distance at 3:03, Sgurr an Fhurain?

Hi Malcolm, Many thanks for your positive comment. The rough bounds are well named and these tops take a bit more than normal to get onto the tops. Walking from Barrisdale certainly adds another dimension to the day...lol. Many thanks for tagging along. Cheers, Charlie.

Well, Charlie, this video brings back some memories. Sgurr na Ciche is one of my favourite hills first seen in a photograph in the SMC Western Highlands guide book some 50 years ago. Saw and admired it regularly during my time as a Customs Officer in the 1980's when, based in Fort William, I regularly had to board foreign factory fishing ships anchored in Loch Nevis processing mackerel supplied by the local trawlers. Finally climbed the mountain from Strathan and Glen Dessarry in 1984 when the paths were less developed than they are now (the road was no better then!). Repeated the ascent in August 1990 when I was chased home late in the evening by hoards of rampant midges. Always loved the view of Loch Nevis from the summit which, unlike the paths, thankfully will never change. Thanks for posting and bringing the memories back to life as my poor quality photographs taken at the time of my ascents did not do justice to the views. All the best, Ian

For some reason I did these three separately, the first two from Glen Dessary. That road is scary with its blind summits. Nearly brought up my breakfast!
