  • In this video i tried to explain the connection diagram of a micro usb connector. My soldering and drawing skills are not the very best but with the help of this video and some soldering skills you should be able to repair your micro usb cable by soldering a new connector.
    finally Thank you for watching & if you liked this video then hit the like button and consider subscribing to my channel. Bye.

    Thanks for the information--this was really helpful! I did a couple things differently that made it easier and more durable. Bend the solder tabs up slightly with a razor blade, tin both the wires and the solder tabs, touch the wires to the tabs, then heat the surfaces together with the iron--the solder flowed from one to the other and the contacts joined together much more cleanly. Another thing that worked well was pushing the wire underneath the bent up tab, then pushing down on the tab gently to hold the wire in place. Also, before snapping the connector together, fill it with epoxy (smear it all over the wires and contacts too)--when it dries it is virtually indestructible! I think this might be even more durable than a new cable--it seems that none of them last very long. Don't throw away your bag of connectors just yet!

      Nice tip man. But i still don't like the fit of these connectors. I'm still using them but for cheap gadgets and small projects, not going to use them
      with my phone and power banks.

    A way around Micro USB connectors that always eventually going bad it seems, is to go ahead and solder a regular USB connector by soldering its 4 wires to the Micro USB slot on the computer board. Yes that means taking apart the device, and You will need to drill a small hole on the cover of the device for the wires to go through. Then get another cable USB to Lightning or whatever for the final connection. Regular USB connectors are so much better than Micro USB. You can use some plumbers putty, or velcro to "hold" the USB wires and connectors to the unit you soldered and allow you to plug into. That way there is no chance of breaking your soldered connections. Is there a soldering pen small enough to properly solder a Micro USB cable? Crazy what the electronics industry offers the consumers.

    I think the melting of the plastic is to do with the over size soldering iron. You would do better with a pin point tip, 0.6mm solder and a temperature controlled soldering iron set to 280'c-310'c.

    Cool DIY solution. Is it possible to solder a thunderbolt 2 (male) end to a USBC (female) end? This would be a miracle as no cable or adapter like this seems to exist. The USBC (male) to Thunderbolt 2 (female) cord does exist.

    • @gurribuy

      USB C is very complicated, its not worth making or repairing you own usb C cable because the connectors are not easily available and they are very difficult to solder and still no guarantee that it will work as intended.

      yes, just use the Black and the red wire but, without data pins the charger will not be able to talk to the device you want to charge and thus the charging will default to 500mA. So, you will only get half amp from your charger

      When i bought these connectors, i bought from three different sellers and although the outer case was different but the main connectors were same from all the 3 sellers. So, i would not recommend to buy micro usb connectors anymore; USB C is the way to go now. But one thing i've yet to try that is the magnetic micro usb cable, maybe magnetic cables would not break easily.

  • @matthewhall9692
    @matthewhall9692 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is definitely not the correct soldering iron or tip for a job like this that is why you are melting the plastic. You should use a conical soldering tip and thin .6mm solder.

    • @gurribuy
      @gurribuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are correct. I have bought some .5mm solder.
      micro bit iron. It works a little better but still the connector quality is very bad.
      I can separate the metal part of connector from the plastic part without using much force.
