I think the gatekeeper buff is super good too, gatekeeper wasn't terrible before but was just outclassed by zilliax and annoy-o-module so it didn't make the cut. However with both the buff and annoyo not being in rotation it will really have a time to shine.
I was gonna comment “hey, you and trump both tried this!”, but then he was game 2 😂 Interesting to see that this deck was so mech-heavy (trump went true Menagerie with as many types as possible), but watching how well magnetic supports the aggro style, it makes sense.
If my Mono-W commander deck has taught me anything its that just playing decently stat-ed creatures/minions on curve turn after turn is sometimes just all it takes to win a game. Even if you're starting from behind due to card quality if you just play more cards more often you're probably gonna win and I think Kibler showed that off well here despite all the "flaws" Warrior has rn.
to be fair to the winrate, kibler is playing an aggro deck in a format where people are mostly going to try fun and weird things over hyper competitive and most people would probably also expect more late game focused decks than normal, so they will have less tools against aggro
If you look at other creators content you see that's just not true. Regis laments the prevalence of aggro in his control warrior video. At least one of the warriors in this very video is also aggro. 3 of FunkiMonki's 4 opponents in his own control warrior video are aggro. Anyone who wasn't prepared for aggro made a big misjudgement.
Keep in mind that in this private event, decks are required to have at least 10 new cards (making many lists suboptimal) and people are still trying weird things. Then also remember that Blood DK is the most popular deck in Standard across all ranks (or #2). Blood and Control Priest wouldn't bat an eye at decks like Menagerie Warrior.
In one of the games Kibler beat out a Warlock that played some of the best one drops in the game into multiple pieces of removal. Yeah it's not likely going to perform as well as in the event but let's not downplay how impressive the deck looked either. Very strong early game alongside super cheap refill is going to do a lot in the format, we saw that with Imp Warlock, a deck that this version of menagerie warrior was beating.
@@olpertHaters will say it’s just TC. People with a brain will acknowledge that but they will also acknowledge the fact that this performed well with strong openers, large boards, and ample refill. And as such, it has a real shit at being a thing on ladder.
@@LukeNorian that seems to be the case with a lot of big streamers... they just look at shit in a vacuum and go "oh no warrior is unplayable, so bad, could never win" and then it turns out decent to good I mean I dont think it will be Tier 1 but the trashing it is definitely way over the top
Control Priest is losing a lot of it's tools though since this set is coming off a rotation. It likely will not be as powerful as it is now, and the existence of new strategies means that even if it remains a deck, it might not have a favorable matchup in the meta. Likewise, while Blood DK isn't losing any tools, it might be preyed on by new decks that have favorable match ups, which will effect it's popularity and how it's built to improve it's winrate in those poorer matchups, and that gives room for decks that would otherwise be unplayable. That's the hard part of evaluating what cards are and are not good: They aren't in a vacuum and we don't know what the environment it'll be played in will look like. And the meta will shift over time as people experiment with decks, find out whats good, and find out what beats those decks, and then what beats those decks and settle into a rock paper scissors situation. It isn't just about how powerful a card is but how it interacts with the other powerful cards.
It's true! The Dual type changes have really changed a lot of Wild's dynamics, including how menagerie warrior and mech hunter/copper hunter would have worked. It's better now, safe to say
I had a feeling Warrior may have some decent strategy behind Menagarie or Taunts. It's surprising to see Mechs be the backbone and do so well. However, I think the big thing to note is how much the core set cards are really pulling the weight in the deck. The axe and the magnetics prove to be either great stabilization or massive tempo swings. Outside of the legendary and draw spell, the warrior cards are more so based on what was already out in past sets. I still think it is incredibly fair to criticize the new warrior cards. Let's not let them off the hook because they did the bare minimum to make a class potentially playable.
@@kiapor99 I don't think it needs some massive game ending card. I think the game has suffered in recent years by constantly making cards that just outright win games and decks are centered around them. It's interesting to see a more old fashion deck that revolves around tempo and just getting the most out of what its got in the moment. With that being said, it would be great to have something more than a draw card and the equivalent to a Siamat as the biggest synergies toward menagerie.
@@kiapor99 Charge can be dangerous though. Giving a 3 mana minion that can become huge charge is asking to be abused in some way. I do think power slider should have a minion type though, its nonsense that it doesn't.
I would love it if this deck were good post-rotation. I feel like it would be tougher to boil it down to a "perfect 30" card deck, so there'd be room for adjustments based on personal preference, which would help keep things diverse.

To be fair aggro decks tend to do better during theorycrafting where most players are trying greedy decks. I'm sure it will at least perform better than enrage warrior though
Considering the curve and the amount of draw/discover effects, I'd call this more of a midrange deck- but the point still stands that proactive decks way overperform during theorycrafting.

What are these decks for the opponents not playing almost anything until turn 5? In usual games the opponent's board would be filled with minions by then lol
I know this was only recorded yesterday, so editing and recording an intro takes a lot. But after watching some of the live stream, I was really hoping Kibler was going to do a deck intro for this, explaining every little nuance. With all that said, the deck is pretty straightforward
Cool that this isn't garbage, but it does seem that a Divine Shield mech paladin does everything this does but better. Edit: This comes off more negative than I intend. I actually thought that Menagerie warrior on reveal looked ok, but I still can't see how it'll have a chance against decks with a core in the older sets. Seems to be less efficient than Mech Paladin or Death Knight in general and has less reload than implock, less speed than rogue, and less burst damage than all of the above but Paladin. Roaring Applause will have to carry the deck for it to even be considered over frankly better, older archetypes.
