Solar powered is the only movement that makes sense in the quartz vs. Mechanical discussion. We want mechanical due to its perpetuity, but the solar option here even more so. Hollow endlinks are forgiving when connected with no play. This is the skx replacement I've been waiting for.
If you're going to swim with your dive watch, you're still going to have to open it every once in a while to change the gaskets. You're going to have to open your battery powered quartz for the same reason equally frequently. Why not use (every second) gasket change to simply replace the battery? I see literally no advantages to a solar diver as opposed to a regular quartz diver.
The only benefit is less frequent battery changes. That's it. Even solar quartz movements will require a battery change, however, and depends on the movement and battery used. Gaskets only have to be changed out every 3 to 5 years depending on quality and lubrication. @@kresimirpleic
Honestly this seems pretty much perfect. Can't really fault it. Nice and compact, looks good, well finished and really versatile. Definitely a winning combination in my book. Nice work with the review 👍
Yeah even with me nitpicking i still love it! I havent taken it off my wrist since I got it a couple weeks ago and i dont see that changing anytime soon! I'm probably too young to be saying this but the ease of having a watch that is absolutely ready to go with no extra hassle is so nice😂
Well it has awful crown action, i have never had watch with screw down crown that is this bad. Even the steeldive willard which is 5x cheaper has better screw down crown, also Orient Kamasu has better crown and everybody sh**s on it.
Bought the watch 2 months ago. It’s a tad bit smaller than I thought it would be, akin to that of the SKX013. Conversely, it wears a bit larger than the 013. Size wise aside, I love the watch. It’s very practical, tasteful, and can be worn from the most casual of occasions to even the most business professional type of occasion. And man that blue is delightful. Goes great with a navy or charcoal suit. The watch reminds me of the 90s Omega “Bond” Seamaster with a blue that’s not ostentatious but subtle and with an overall package that can be worn, as mentioned before, in various occasions, as well as can survive the elements. Long-story short, it’s a great watch and I love it! P.S. That 4mm taper will definitely be exquisite.
This watch looks so incredibly nice... I bought the black on black in a heartbeat. It has that mix of Rolex sub and "flatness" of Tudor. I really wanted the matte dial and the black bezel one is the only one that has it... It's probably going to be popular for aftermarket mods anyway. Yay!
Yeah having an automatic version with a 4R movement would have been pretty cool just to have variety but i shudder to think what the MSRP would be lol! Although the quartz version is perfect for me hopefully this model is popular enough to get more variants. By the looks of it it seems to be a sleeper hit!
I love mine with the brown dial. My first Seiko was a 36mm solar quartz. It was terrible. The rubber strap would melt, and it broke twice. The watch stopped working after a few years, but I've always wanted something to replace it with. And then this came along. I'm just waiting for strapcode to make a super-o for it. I have a strapcode for my SARB and of course the endlinks don't work, but it will kind of stay in place. Anyway, was super comfortable and well made. Even if they just made end links, I would be happy. The braclet on it is surprisingly good, just the divers extension causes the clasp part to feel loner, and it sits a little off center on my wrist, but overall I love it. Just not toolish diver, almost feels dressy.
I have quite a few seikos at home. I find that once you get one you tend to notice the others a lot more. They are highly addictive and hard to resist. it's just a pity that their quality control is a bit hit and miss.
Oh yeah Seikos just keep pouring in!! I had to control myself and consolidate before things got out of hand 😂 yeah I do wish they took care of the QC a bit more since it's been a widely known issue for quite some time. But I guess they know that we're still crazy for them loool
I appreciate your humor regarding a Divers watch not being used for its real purpose by most people. Yet there are a lot of us out here who are old school Padi Dive Masters who actually dives the old school way ie not using a dive computer. And preferring to actually wear a real divers watch to time my dives. Just saying
Thats awesome to hear man! Its still one of my favorite watches it just looks so good and its so comfortable. Hope you'e enjoying it as much as I am lol! Thanks for the support😁
Great review. Still contemplating whether I should get this or not given my bad experience with my bunch of Seiko solar watches as compared with Citizen's ecodrive
I have the other solar model SNE593P1, which is around 42.8mm diameter (SKX size like). Amazing deal watch. And it has killer lume, better than more expensive Arnie or Baby tuna, street series.
What I really like about your reviews is that you have the exact same wrist size as me ! So I get a true feel for how a watch will look on me , I've been crushing on the SNE571P
Thats awesome to hear! It's always really helpful to find someone with the same wrist size so I'm glad that I can help out on that end. Oh man if you're already crushing on the SNE571 then you need to get it asap! This watch is still one of my absolute favorites
This screams Seiko to me. (I didn't think of the Sub even a little bit before you mentioned it in the title here.) It would be my dream starter watch really. It wasn't released at the time afaik, so I ended up with a Certina DS Action Precidrive as it ticked all the boxes somewhat. Comparatively it has a similarly small lug to lug distance, but boring/uninspired design and useless lume, an HAQ movement and better build quality and a nice bracelet. But I wish I got this instead of the Certina though. It seems to have more character, and I love having some good lume. However, I'm done with having many watches, because I end up wearing just a few or one 90% of the time anyways. Next time in the far future though I'm going for something "non-disposable", so either a higher end mechanical or more likely a GS 9F.
Yeah it's weird Seiko officially calls it blue for some reason but it's very much grey bc I definitely wouldn't have loved it as much if it was blue lol! That being said there is an ever so slight tinge of blue but it's only noticeable when the bezel is directly next to something pure grey. So pretty much 99.99% of the time it's grey and the remaining 0.01% of the time it's grey with a slight touch of blue
Great video, I think if you’re able to get 20% or more off the msrp then it’s a decent deal If people are ok with the movement. Would love to see this with an improved bracelet and an automatic movement
Just bought this watch after watching several reviews, thank you for your reveiw it was excellent. I love the watch and now will be looking to put on an aftermarket bracelet with a 4mm taper which will make it even better
nice video ! i just came across this watch on an online shop with a good deal for it .. however i have a SNZF17 and im not quite sure this is going to be a big difference.. of course the build quality / sapphire glass and 200m prospex is going to be a plus.. but I am wondering if this is a watch for me when i absolutely love my sea urchin.. would you get this watch if you would have the sea urchin already ? or would you advise another watch instead
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed the video! the sea urchin is an awesome watch for sure but i don think that the SNE can live alongside it without stepping on any toes. both have classic looks however, the biggest change you'll experience is that the SNE is far smaller than the sea urchin in ever dimension (38mm vs 41mm wide, 10.5mm vs 13mm thick, 20mm vs 22mm lug width). I like watches that are sized like the sea urchin but for me the comfort of a smaller sized watch will always be a huge plus point. So if this is a size that you like, or would like to experience, then the SNE is one of the best watches out there but if its a bit too small for you then it might not be the best option for you. Additionally I happen to love that its quartz bc it'll always be ready to wear no matter how long its been since i wore it last. hope this helps a bit and let me know what you end up doing!
@@thewatchidiot Hey man thanks for the reply! Yeah i was looking at it and since I have 7 inch wrists I thought it would be a bit too small for me. As my urchin already feels small. Its a beautiful watch tho.. If it had a ceramic bezel I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I am now looking at the srph61k1 since that ticks all the boxes.. I will let you know what i will do eventually.. But i love the prospex / solar movement.
@@thewatchidiot little update .. i bought the Tan ssc817p1 . prospex crono speedtimer. Its not a diver but different enough from my urchin. I will upgrade my urchin with a new bezel , glass and bracelet later on.
Yeah its an incredible watch no doubt about it and yes i totally agree that this isnt necessarily a homage watch but it really only comes down to a couple aspects that allude to the sub only when put together. otherwise pretty much everything is different
thanks man, i'm glad you enjoyed it! the srpg09 is a cool watch classic shape but I'm much more of a dive watch guy so my heart is set on the SNE569 lol! which one did you end up getting?
Great watch and really interesting piece. Technical features are great. Really deep review. It homages certainly the Rolex submariner and that's fine. All in all its a really complete watch, a circle that closes perfectly so to speak. From your review I got the feeling this watch delivers a perfect experience or something quite close to it. Something that Seiko has lost even in watches far more expensive. Homage its a powerful underground force in the watch industry. We all need to be open minded with this tendency, which in my opinion its going to be more than a tendency. Thank you so much for all your thoroughly reviews.
Thank you so much, I'm glad to hear you enjoy the details bc in the end the details are what can make or break a watch! Yes it really is a complete watch and its so wonderful that Seiko made something like this bc it happened to be everything I want a diver like this to be even with the nit picks! This really does feel like Seiko of old releasing an incredible watch with incredible value at a great price. Well at the $360 that I got it for at least lol But yeah technically it can be seen as a homage for sure but only in the truest of the word bc unfortunately the world of homages has been muddled quite a bit as the word lumps good homages in with watches that or only technically a homage. Its a growing world for sure especially given how unattainable Rolex watches are getting which is why I really do think there needs to be more clarity out there in terms of what makes for a legitimate homage by the definition of the word vs what should not be considered a homage. Even the term of replica has been muddled by the criminal fake watch world which further makes this topic a mangled mess
How to tell if you got a legit Seiko instead of a fake: the bezel is misaligned. My Orient had those same style hollow end links. Super solid, no issues with them. Until they hit about a year old, and then they started to rattle and squeak. Looks like this video is about a year old, how are they holding up?
What a stunning watch! Those concentric rings on the bezel insert are a really nice little detail touch too. Totally agree that nomenclature in the watch enthusiast community has caused so many unnecessary online arguments 😂 We’ve adopted terms to describe certain watches which aren’t really true to the actual definition and meaning of that particular word.
Yessss those concentric rings on the bezel are such a cool detail! I'm so happy they designed it the way they did! Yeah I totally agree, homage has come to describe pretty much every single watch depending on how someone defines it. I actually just did a video on the subject and man was it a hard one to make lol!
I am confused about something: your SNE569P1 is black dial, grey bezel, and it looks like it, but in other reviews it is a very dark navy dial and a definite blueish grey bezel. They call it blue, and it looks blue, albeit a subtle blue. I like the grey shown in this video, and would not desire blue. Would rather have sne573 black than another blue watch, but the grey looks good.
Love your content better be nice if you kept an image up on the screen more often so we didn't just look you the whole time, no offense. You are handsome gentleman but we are here to see the watches and hear your commentary and see some of you, LOL. Bottom line is you are doing great work and we are excited to have you making contact, this watch looks great!
loooool I love rewatching my videos just to stare at my unbelievably gorgeous face😂! But I get what you're saying and i'll keep that in mind, its tough balancing the two types of shots from my end especially after staring at so much footage of the watch for hours! I appreciate the feedback and the support!
I like the watch and I am interested in it. But it really looks small on your wrist, especially for a dive watch, and I don't like large watches. Can I ask what your wrist size is?
So the very first shot of it on my wrist is a pretty accurate view of what it looks like on my wrist which is 7.5 inches. I dont like large watches either for me my sweet spot is 38-40mm and this SNE is just about perfect so I say go for it if you want to get it!
Once again a great balanced review TWI, much appreciated. I like the design elements of the Seiko but the inconsistent alignment of bezels would drive me nuts. For a solar analog watch I'd be looking in the direction of Citizen (I have a few old ones where alignment is perfect) however I do have a soft spot for the Seiko brand. For the cost I'd consider some of Casio G-Shock analog options (not homage watches though) where everything seems to be precision from my experience. I would not rule out one of these though. Always good to hear your positive and could do better points with your reviews. Terrific macro photography as well.
Thank you so much Anthony, I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it! Yeah I do wish Seiko would put a little more energy into these sort of simple QC issues bc it's been a problem for a long while but in my case it's not too bad bc the bezel is relatively stiff so I can just have it sit halfway between clicks. Its a worthy work around for such an awesome watch!! Yeah citizen is great with their ecodrive movements and I've got a promaster diver although it's a bit bigger at about 43mm I think. Also do you know of any 40mm ish ecodrive divers? I've been looking around and would love to do a comparison but I can't seem to find anything other than my promaster unfortunately. But yeah I definitely want to try out the other analog gshock options other than my casioaks it would be cool if they ever made one with some sort of indestructible rotating bezel! The macro shots are fun to get I'm glad you enjoyed them! I love the new perspective they give and thanks for noting the could do better points bc no watch out there is perfect and there's always room for improvement! Hopefully brands start checking the comments 😁
@@thewatchidiot You've got my brain cell thinking TWI. I'm not aware of any G-Shock with a rotating bezel but I confess I've not searched for one but I do have a couple of the metal cased G-Shocks. I have a MTG-B1000 (black on bracelet with blue accents) and a GSTt-B100 (stainless on bracelet with red accents) both of them could have fitted in as an accessory in any of the terminator films. Super accurate and durable but my squares get more wrist time. I've not looked into the Citizen current range for a long time, maybe it's time to have another look.
It would be interesting to see how Gshock would go about making a rotatable bezel bc I'm sure it wouldn't be the regular way. Hopefully they're up for the challenge bc I would get one asap! Yeah I'll keep looking but Citizen really ought to come out with an equivalent 38-40mm quartz diver especially seeing that this new Seiko is looking to be quite popular! Fingers crossed!!
@@thewatchidiot The G-Shock dive bezel is an interesting one. I would think that it would be an electronic LCD or liquid paper (like the Kindle e-reader) with forward and backward indication over a lumed base layer setting by +/- buttons,, there would be a lock as well (push two buttons at the same time maybe?). Illuminator back lighting via a front button. Thinking about it they already have a diver series, the Frogman. 😀 I have to agree with a wish for Citizen to produce some smaller diameter divers as looking today they are all on the large side.
Yeah bc the only other digital watch with a bezel that I know of are those Seiko ones with the tuna case and shroud. I have no idea what the reference number is but it has an lcd dot that goes around the watch like the minute hand and the bezel is set to that "minute hand" dot I completely forgot the reference number tho! Yeah I want to check out the frogman a little closer to see how Gshock has interpreted a dive watch for sure and it's cool how it's asymmetrical too!
Heyy loved the video, please keep up the in depth reviews, ur really a game changer in the youtube watch industry haha. I only got one question about the tissot prx seconds hand hitting the minute markers, you mentioned that you were able to fix that, would you mind sharing how?
Thank you so much I'm so happy to hear you're enjoying the channel bc theres a lot more to come! Hopefully more people think like you😁 Sure thing, if you go to the video tab of my channel, a few videos before this one I did a video called "Tissot PRX Misaligned Seconds Hand Is FIXED" the thumbnail is of the PRX as well. (sorry for some reason I cant paste the link into this comment right now!)
I have the black version. Only one thing to make this perfect. Move that lollypop to the other side of the second hands. It always confuse me you reading at low light. Coz the needle is not lumed.
I have a Bulova Narine Star that has that same case shape. I understand that they are made by Citizen. Great video, and I just subscribed to your channel. I’m looking forward to many new videos.
Thats awesome! Yeah its a classic case shape for sure bc in the end sometimes a simple case is all we need! Thank you so much, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video and welcome to the channel! Lots more to come👍
Maybe it’s just me but @ 3:45-3:50 the second hand was hitting between the markers.Just a minor irritation, but I do like the watch.I love my Tissot Seastar and Phoibos Diver(both Quartz)I’m more a Mechanical/Automatic Collector but I have no issues wearing Quartz.
in that shot the hand does look off but thats only down to the parallax effect that comes from viewing it at an angle. Thankfully i can confirm that it hits the marks perfectly! A seastar and phoibos make for a cool duo for sure and yeah I'm the same as you while most of my watches are mechanical I still love quartz for what it brings to the table!
From what I can see this watch is a new take on the SNE551P1 and its series, just a bit smaler and without the cyclops. Why are no reviews mentioning this? Every review of a new submariner model (or any other watch where models change over the years) will compare it to the previous model, it seems strange not to do the same to this watch. What is your take on this watch comparing it to the SNE551P1?
Nice review, hands down. This is on my radar for some time, waiting for the local AD to give me a call. In one other review, guy said that the crystal doesn't have AR...is that true? That would be a shame for this price range...from the video I cannot tell for sure but it seems like there are some reflections going on, what do you think?
Thank you so much! Yeah hopefully you get yours soon bc its such an incredible watch! Hmmm I actually have no idea whether or not this has any AR. That being said I havent had any issues with reflections bc thankfully its a flat crystal. I happen to prefer flat crystals (depending on the watch) just because even when domed crystals have AR the constant muted reflections still irritate me lol!
It’s odd but a lot of the seiko essentials have sapphire crystal. Cheapest watch in my collection is the seiko sur307 which I got on sale for $104 and it has sapphire crystal. But my $250 srpe doesn’t 🤔
It is a bit odd, however Seiko's thinking is that its better for high performance watches to have a crystal that wont shatter on impact rendering the watch unusable, hence the Hardlex. But then again the pricier Prospex watches have sapphire crystals, so who knows whats really going on lol!
Hmmmmm of the top of my head I dont think Seiko has anything else that resembles a Submariner! I guess it depends on where we draw the line for resemblance but Seiko always does an awesome job in terms of maintaining their own design language on all their watch releases which is great to see!
Great video of a watch I never would have seen. I have an spb143 so I'm in the camp that prefers 40mm or less divers. Do you have a watch email where people can connect with you further?
Thanks man I'm glad you enjoyed it!! Oh man the SPB143 has been on my wishlist ever since it came out! Such an awesome watch I'm so happy Seikos filling in this 38-40mm gap further! Yeah you can email me at thewatchidiot@gmail.com or you can dm me on Instagram @the.watch.idiot!
Yeah the grey dial is what caught my eye first and it's the reason why it's still high up on my wishlist! The proportions look spot on and I'm sure it's even better in person!
Definitely a good looking watch, nice dimensions. Be interesting if they release a 4r35 version. I'd be all over that. There are a lot of seiko's that I like but pass over because of hardlex.
Yeah they really hit the sweet spot with this one but yeah as much as I love the quartz it would be awesome to see one with the 4R35 in there so that more people can enjoy such an awesome watch especially since it has sapphire already!
Oh man that really sucks especially since theres no way to work around a chapter ring problem. Maybe give it another go once you can see them in person before buying? Also Gnomon Watches is great when it comes to checking alignment before purchasing. I wanted to double check if my MM300 was perfectly aligned and they sent me a pic of what they were planning on sending to me! Definitely was a relief
Seiko needs to do more quartz. Honestly, the Seiko 5's should have, or be, quartz versions. I bought autos due to internet 'hype', but I'll never buy another auto again. Too much stress for me.
Ah yeah the black bezel version you have is pretty awesome as well. Wouldnt mind adding it alongside mine! Yeah I wish the bracelet was better but I still love the watch overall! I do hope uncle seiko or strapcode make some bracelets for this soon!
Great video, love this one. I picked up the black dial and bezel variant, video coming soon 😉. I also agree with you when referring to a "homage". Well said 👏👏👏
Thanks man! Nice I haven't seen much of the non padi version so it'll be a nice change to go back to basics so looking forward to it👍 lol thanks yeah homage is such a muddy topic the quotation marks are necessary 😂
Very classy looking, all the simple design elements on this just work together beautifully somehow. Too much at full price though, I'd expect in a few months it should be more widely available around 350-400
Yeah I agree with everything you said!! I'm still surprised at how amazing it is in person and yeah MSRP is a bit crazy and some places have been and still are listing them at over sticker! Thankfully I got mine at $360 which made me feel good lol but yeah hopefully they become more widely available for more people at around the 350-400 price point you mentioned. And hopefully some more bracelets come out for it too!
@K M that's an awesome price for it!! And man it sounds like you enjoy Seiko quite a bit 😂 have you gotten yours in yet??? If you did, how're you liking it?
@@thewatchidiot yes sir...got it on Tuesday. Have worn nothing else since receiving. I am done buying Seikos unless they come out with the same EXACT watch, except in an Auto version. That would be perfection, at least for me!😃
@K M that's so great to hear! Im still I'm love with mine and yeah I'm hoping that an auto version comes out bc then even more people will be able to experience this watch!
This one is on my wishlist for a few years (with the SBDN code), I bought from a seller on ebay with the same name I guess it´s the same, nice to know they have a website, they are not shipping to my country from ebay, I will ask if from the website they do.
Ah yeah that's right and actually I had seen their listing of the watch on ebay at first and they had awesome ratings so then while looking online I saw the same name and at a better price so I felt more secure knowing that they're trusted ebay sellers. I completely forgot about this first part of the story lol!
Price is too high for what you get in my opinion. Under $400 would have been acceptable but I feel like Seiko is targeting a VERY specific customer with all the specs in mind. Those hollow end link bracelets with that awful articulating divers extension 🤢. How can this even be considered cutting corners with that MSRP?! Lol. My Samurai has it and the side with the extension hangs straight down while the other side curves around the wrist. It just doesn’t look good and bugs the hell out of me… Besides the bracelet, this is a pretty handsome looking watch at the end of the day. Does it at least have a screw down crown? Glad I scooped up my trio of SKX watches when they were only $200 lol.
Yeah ideally sub 400 would have been great for the MSRP but thankfully i got mine for $360! lots of places are still selling it at MSRP and some places are selling it over 600 which is just crazy. And yeah man despite the bracelet feeling solid it does bug me when i see the hollow end links and lol yeah the divers extension isnt great either and it doesnt stick out too unusually for me on my wrist but there are definitely times it doesnt flow well with my wrist and its a nightmare setting it down on my night stand😂 I guess it just shows how great this watch is that despite all this I still absolutely love it! But lol yes its got the screw down crown thankfully its a full on diver with the Seiko's air diver name! Yessssss thankfully Ive got my SKX trio as well and seeing the prices on the 013 is just shocking!
Same here! Even when I feel like wearing something else I just gravitate towards this one. Its just so wonderful on wrist and seeing the grey bezel and overall look makes me so happy!
Loooooool I know that feeling all too well😂 but as far as I can tell today is now tomorrow so have you gotten yours yet?? If you did how are you liking it?? Actually for me I'm glad that it's not ceramic bc they concentric rings on the bezel is such a cool detail that wouldn't have have happened with ceramic!
@@thewatchidiot hi, the shipping is delayed, just got the watch this morning. :) One thing I noticed the most is the bezel, it makes me colorblind. In most of review and picture on the internet it described and seen as a blue faded bezel. After I see it with my own eyes actualy it is gray (from my opnion). LOL. Overall its a beautifull watch, but somehow because the light colored bezel it makes a little feminine looks. Btw I hate the bracelet is a little bit frail, have to change the bracelet soon. *sorry for my bad english.
That's awesome to hear!! Yeah the bezel changes color so much between grey and lightish blue but it keeps things interesting! Hopefully Strapcode will make a bracelet for this watch bc that would feel amazing! (Lol you're fine no need to apologize!😁)
Watch Idiot, I have owned Seiko timepieces since 1974 and had over a hundred in collection at times. The Seiko watch of today (excluding GS) are not in the league by miles from the watches of the 70's, 80's and some of the 90's and even 2000's. Seiko's quality assurance and workmanship have really taken a step down in the last decade, Grand Seiko are the Seiko watches of the 70's. This SNE569-P1 is the perfect example $550..00 - $420.00 for a 38mm, press clasps, quartz movement and including your Watch Idiot's personal rants. People the movement in this very expense quartz watch is the V147 at a cost $28.00 USD for Seiko to produce, if you had to replace it yourself you can buy it for $85.00 bucks. Truly a hundred dollar watch at best for four times it's worth, way to love your customers Seiko.
First of all wow that must have been such a cool collection with over a hundred Seikos! But yeah even for me as someone who has been collecting seikos since 2016 I can see the value proposition slipping away so I can only imagine what it was like earlier on! While I'm ok with Seiko making more up market watches of relatively higher quality it does make me sad to see watches that are classic value watches being priced higher for no reason. If I wasnt such a full on Seiko nut it would be extremely difficult to justify! Thankfully I got mine for $360 so i do feel a bit better but the $500 MSRP is truly ridiculous and pretty much impossible to justify. With those chunky margins I would have hoped that their QC efforts would be beefed up but no sign of that just yet. As for GS, since they are offering new movements and new designs, so long as they continue to offer their usual sub 5-7k watches, I'm happy. I used to have three but now two and soon enough itll be only one but the value offered by it is still unreal!
I’m quite late here but this is a great video, just subbed! I’m keeping my eyes peeled for one of these in the secondary market. Just out of curiosity, what happened to Jody in regard to homages? Seems like I missed something
Are you saying that Omega created the dive watch? The first dive watches available to the general public, with the design elements as we know them today (mainly the rotating bezel), came out in '53. Those were the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf. The Rolex Sub was released in '54, though the first ones were labeled as '53. The Omega counterpart, the Seamaster 300, didn't come out until '57. He's calling this Seiko a Sub homage because it uses the hour markers (triangle, rectangles and circles) that the Rolex Submariner introduced and its known for. This Seiko looks nothing like a Seamaster 300, so why would it be an homage to it?
Yeah the hollow endlinks are a downer and shouldnt be here at this price but these ones are done incredibly well tho because they really dont look or feel hollow even after wearing it for so long! It feels much more solid than my tudor endlinks somehow lol!
It is an excellent design and great proportions. Hence its familiarity. The price is so Seiko 2021 though 🙄 just like the absence of QC on bezel / dial. An auto would be at 700 easy! Yet, Seiko put those prices for a reason. Somehow, it sells good. I can see this model be a success. Ps : You can give your opinion on homages, why not? I like this topic, I worked on IP protection, watches are just impossible to really protect, with few exceptions.
Yeah it's hard to fault the design for sure! And yeah the price point is a bit crazy given the watch but thankfully I got mine at 360 which made me feel better 400 for this and 550 for an eventual auto would have been ideal but yeah it's Seiko 2021😂 Hopefully it's super popular bc then there might be some more aftermarket bracelets too! Yeah I think I'll do a full video on the topic bc it really is an interesting one but in short I tend to be on the less forgiving side of things when it comes to "homage" watches that are pretty much the exact same watch albeit from more of a moral pov as I'm not sure what the technicalities are. And that awesome that you worked in IP protection! Is it hard to protect just bc a company can say "oh but the hand is slightly bigger so it's not a copy" or "oh but we don't think it looks anything like the original"?
I buy watches because i like them and i like to wear them. I will never sell any of my watches, they will be given to friends when i die. That being said end links don’t mean squat to me. I have never had an issue with a non solid end link and i am really rough on me stuff. This is one reason i will NEVER own another Rolex. I prefer quartz because a watch should be accurate other wise it becomes jewelry.not saying that I don’t own 2or 3 autos, but i find they are not as tough as a quartz so they are the only jewelry i own. I will be getting one of these. If i can find one at a decent price. Also none of the issues mentioned bothers me. I would rather talk about motorcycles than watches ( they are for my pleasure and needs) thanks for another dent in my savings not a big gaping hole that a motorcycle does though.
I want to try the watch but is sold out in the website that you recommend, and luckily you will find it in, some Japan sellers up to $420 wich is tough if you consider all the flaws in the bracelet, cheap clasp, the end links. Taking in the consideration what others micro brands are doing it is like… I don’t know Man I think I’m gonna stay away from this buy impulse.
Yeah hopefully they release a mechanical version so that more people can enjoy this awesome watch! I for one am so happy that its quartz just bc it ends up being THE watch that can be picked up in any situation without any worries. Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!
Nice video but what was that 2:22 sunburst dials have watches for 5$ to thousands, same is for matte dials so that was non sense and weird statement to people who have watches with matte dials. That Seiko is great size and great looking but with hollow crap bracelet and quartz movement this watch should cost not more than 200-250$ at max not 550-600$ its crazy....
thanks man! but lool i said " the black sunburst dial is really well done here bc you can actually see the grain on the dial and it doesnt look matte which is a problem that a lot of cheaper watches have" the "it" is referring to the sunburst dial meaning that the sunburst dial on this watch is good bc sunburst dials that arent well executed end up just looking matte which is not what the dial was trying to achieve. If i thought matte dials themselves were a problem, the vast majority of my favorite watches would have to be sold including my favorite Tudor Pelagos! 😂
How could someone call that a submariner homage lmao. Theres dudes who call any dive watch a sub homage or anything with a date a datejust homage its so annoying.
Yeah i hear ya at that point pretty much any watch with a rotating bezel and a triangle anywhere on the dial is a sub homage! To this day whenever I look at it on my wrist I dont see a sub, rather seiko's take on a versatile and easy wearing diver.
Yay!
So happy that Seiko released something of this size although I wish they had it with an automatic as well. The solar quartz movement is cool but still
Yeah having an automatic version with a 4R movement would have been pretty cool just to have variety but i shudder to think what the MSRP would be lol! Although the quartz version is perfect for me hopefully this model is popular enough to get more variants. By the looks of it it seems to be a sleeper hit!
This will keep better time and is tougher , also maintenance fee !! 🧐
@@thewatchidiot Let me introduce you to SRPK29
How is the screw down crown? I heard it is small and Abit hard to manipulate? :) I'm looking to get the SNE575 or SNE585...
Does the bracelet taper down at all? To like 18mm?
Seiko Corp: At this price, solid endlinks or sapphire. One or the other. You can’t have both.
Buyer: Alrighty. I will switch to a strap anyway.
I appreciate your humor regarding a Divers watch not being used for its real purpose by most people. Yet there are a lot of us out here who are old school Padi Dive Masters who actually dives the old school way ie not using a dive computer. And preferring to actually wear a real divers watch to time my dives. Just saying
Is this new size something that Seiko has been missing in the affordable side of their range?
In a word
..yes.
I agree with that word😁
Just picked this up and really happy with the dimensions and the ghost bezel. Got it for 30 percent off!
Do you know if can change the bezel yourself? Got the black version, would love the grey bezel
How this compare with the SNE587 Night Vision. I am waiting for it to arrive.
Thanks a lot! finally got around to pull the trigger on this one.
Don't hurry and don't stop, man.⌚
Thats awesome to hear man! Its still one of my favorite watches it just looks so good and its so comfortable. Hope you'e enjoying it as much as I am lol! Thanks for the support😁
Great review. Still contemplating whether I should get this or not given my bad experience with my bunch of Seiko solar watches as compared with Citizen's ecodrive
which watch will you recommend in its place?
Nice production. Can I ask what is your wrist size, it seems big for that solar, maybe just the camera hard to be sure.
Next time in the far future though I'm going for something "non-disposable", so either a higher end mechanical or more likely a GS 9F.
what’s the difference between SBDN 075 and the SNE 573?
How does this compare to SNE585? Is it the same watch?
Strange how the link provided describes it as blue bezel. Is it actually grey or is more black with the brushed surface that gives it a grey hue?
Yeah it's weird Seiko officially calls it blue for some reason but it's very much grey bc I definitely wouldn't have loved it as much if it was blue lol! That being said there is an ever so slight tinge of blue but it's only noticeable when the bezel is directly next to something pure grey.
So pretty much 99.99% of the time it's grey and the remaining 0.01% of the time it's grey with a slight touch of blue
Definitely putting the SNE WITH THE BLACK bezel in my collection
I've got the black on black on a beads of rice bracelet from Straphabit. Great timekeeper.
You would be the perfect guy to test and review the 40mm tissot seastar quartz! Excellent video - cheers
Do you know if the bracelet it came with fits the alpinist?
Great video, I think if you’re able to get 20% or more off the msrp then it’s a decent deal If people are ok with the movement. Would love to see this with an improved bracelet and an automatic movement
Just bought this watch after watching several reviews, thank you for your reveiw it was excellent. I love the watch and now will be looking to put on an aftermarket bracelet with a 4mm taper which will make it even better
Hey, did you find the bracelet ?
The lume “pip” at the 3, I believe, is part of the COSC certification for a true diver.
is this any different than the seiko sbdn069?
nice video ! i just came across this watch on an online shop with a good deal for it .. however i have a SNZF17 and im not quite sure this is going to be a big difference.. of course the build quality / sapphire glass and 200m prospex is going to be a plus.. but I am wondering if this is a watch for me when i absolutely love my sea urchin.. would you get this watch if you would have the sea urchin already ? or would you advise another watch instead
TH-camrs are in love with this watch and I can see why. Def not a sub homage.
Yeah its an incredible watch no doubt about it and yes i totally agree that this isnt necessarily a homage watch but it really only comes down to a couple aspects that allude to the sub only when put together. otherwise pretty much everything is different
Where can I buy the microphone you are using to record your videos?
I hear the lume is not great bc it fades. Any truth to this?
Nice video brother! Thank you! I’m in for that watch. What you think about seiko sepg09. I’m between those two 😅
thanks man, i'm glad you enjoyed it! the srpg09 is a cool watch classic shape but I'm much more of a dive watch guy so my heart is set on the SNE569 lol! which one did you end up getting?
I thought the bezel looked faded blue
Got this last week it's an amazing watch i would love it if it was 40mm thought
The side of my case is not brushed?
Well at the $360 that I got it for at least lol
But yeah technically it can be seen as a homage for sure but only in the truest of the word bc unfortunately the world of homages has been muddled quite a bit as the word lumps good homages in with watches that or only technically a homage.
I have to agree with a wish for Citizen to produce some smaller diameter divers as looking today they are all on the large side.
Ceramic bezel insert?
Do anyone know where I could find another metal bracelet for that watch ?
Heyy loved the video, please keep up the in depth reviews, ur really a game changer in the youtube watch industry haha. I only got one question about the tissot prx seconds hand hitting the minute markers, you mentioned that you were able to fix that, would you mind sharing how?
Thank you so much I'm so happy to hear you're enjoying the channel bc theres a lot more to come! Hopefully more people think like you😁
Sure thing, if you go to the video tab of my channel, a few videos before this one I did a video called "Tissot PRX Misaligned Seconds Hand Is FIXED" the thumbnail is of the PRX as well. (sorry for some reason I cant paste the link into this comment right now!)
I have the black version. Only one thing to make this perfect. Move that lollypop to the other side of the second hands. It always confuse me you reading at low light. Coz the needle is not lumed.
I love that watch!
The size! They don’t like this anymore! This watch is perfect overall.
Its a great watch no doubt but i think slowly Seiko is realizing that the sub 40mm range is the sweet spot so hopefully more comes out in this size!
Great review in details...thanks.
Lots more to come👍
fantastic looking watch
Are there other seiko watch models that resembles a Submariner Homage?? Curious what's out there
Hmmmmm of the top of my head I dont think Seiko has anything else that resembles a Submariner! I guess it depends on where we draw the line for resemblance but Seiko always does an awesome job in terms of maintaining their own design language on all their watch releases which is great to see!
@@thewatchidiot In my mind the best Seiko Sub hommage is the 7s26 SKX031
Great video of a watch I never would have seen. I have an spb143 so I'm in the camp that prefers 40mm or less divers. Do you have a watch email where people can connect with you further?
Thanks man I'm glad you enjoyed it!! Oh man the SPB143 has been on my wishlist ever since it came out! Such an awesome watch I'm so happy Seikos filling in this 38-40mm gap further!
Yeah you can email me at thewatchidiot@gmail.com or you can dm me on Instagram @the.watch.idiot!
Its a good one. I enjoy it. The sunburst grey dial is different than the other black dial divers I have which makes it fit it well.
Yeah the grey dial is what caught my eye first and it's the reason why it's still high up on my wishlist! The proportions look spot on and I'm sure it's even better in person!
Good review but I'm surprised that you like it's size also the quartz movement.
Bought this watch a few weeks back and had to return it. Chapter ring alignment was too off for me to ignore :(
Oh man that really sucks especially since theres no way to work around a chapter ring problem.
Would add cohesion to their product line up…
Rolex 5513 Homage, I have the black bezel SNE573P1. Terrible bracelet but the rest of the watch is spot on as a grab and go beater.
I just scored one on,the bay for $280! Can't wait for it to get here. Will be my 23rd Seiko Diver!
What happend to Jody?
This one is on my wishlist for a few years (with the SBDN code), I bought from a seller on ebay with the same name I guess it´s the same, nice to know they have a website, they are not shipping to my country from ebay, I will ask if from the website they do.
Ah yeah that's right and actually I had seen their listing of the watch on ebay at first and they had awesome ratings so then while looking online I saw the same name and at a better price so I felt more secure knowing that they're trusted ebay sellers. I completely forgot about this first part of the story lol!
Very well proportioned piece. Seiko should come up with auto version !
Yeah wonderfully proportioned and I agree they need an auto version because i want more people to experience how awesome this watch is!
I’d love a bracelet for mine too.
And yeah man despite the bracelet feeling solid it does bug me when i see the hollow end links and lol yeah the divers extension isnt great either and it doesnt stick out too unusually for me on my wrist but there are definitely times it doesnt flow well with my wrist and its a nightmare setting it down on my night stand😂
I guess it just shows how great this watch is that despite all this I still absolutely love it! But lol yes its got the screw down crown thankfully its a full on diver with the Seiko's air diver name! Yessssss thankfully Ive got my SKX trio as well and seeing the prices on the 013 is just shocking!
Maybe seiko should just sell these models with rubber straps. Or just sell the watch head. And we buy our own bracelet/strap !
Is this watch discontinued?
Mine has been welded to my wrist for the last month, I have it on an Uncle Seiko GL831 strap.
Same here! Even when I feel like wearing something else I just gravitate towards this one. Its just so wonderful on wrist and seeing the grey bezel and overall look makes me so happy!
Is it actually grey bezel? Or is it navy?
@@Mr.Loafers Dark grey
This is poisoning me. Mine will be delivered tomorrow, just can't wait.
Btw, to bad the bezel isn't ceramic coating.
One thing I noticed the most is the bezel, it makes me colorblind.
The watch is fine but size 38.5 is too small. Go to shop and try it before you buy it,. Size should be 40 min.
No. Size is perfect.
Comma left the chat
Spot on. Grate value
Thanks man, it really is an incredible watch!
maybe i missedit, but what movement is in this watch?
Sorry about that I don't think I actually said it directly!! It's a solar quartz movement the V147👍 perfect for reliable daily use
Nice vlog nice watch enjoy
Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!
Love it under 40mm
Yessssss 38-40 is my sweet spot!!
Always let down by the quality of seikos straps. Always end up buying a new one
I’m quite late here but this is a great video, just subbed! I’m keeping my eyes peeled for one of these in the secondary market. Just out of curiosity, what happened to Jody in regard to homages? Seems like I missed something
How can homage be a Seiko to Rolex when Omega created the dive?
Love the watch but hollow end links for that money. I'd feel like Seiko were taking the piss outta me mate
Yeah the hollow endlinks are a downer and shouldnt be here at this price but these ones are done incredibly well tho because they really dont look or feel hollow even after wearing it for so long! It feels much more solid than my tudor endlinks somehow lol!
I wish Seiko employed Goldilocks as for me they never get the size ‘just right’. Always 1mm too big or too small for me.
lol yeah while i love this watch I admit that it would have been more perfect if it was just a touch bigger!
Should also NOT put up with misalignments. Not sure why people do.
Cool man👏👏
I want to try the watch but is sold out in the website that you recommend, and luckily you will find it in, some Japan sellers up to $420 wich is tough if you consider all the flaws in the bracelet, cheap clasp, the end links. Taking in the consideration what others micro brands are doing it is like… I don’t know Man I think I’m gonna stay away from this buy impulse.
These models look great. I'd love to buy one, but I think they are overpriced.
*sigh not automatic/mechanical. too bad, nice specs though. Great review!
The perfect way: Buy these SNE5xx with rubber strap and switching to 3rd party bracelets.
There are cheaper seikos with sapphires crystal haha however they are not divers or sum special
