We were able to remove a short segment from this video - as for a few seconds in this video after meiosis I is correctly shown- an image pops up showing how the chromosomes and nuclei would look near the end of meiosis *II* and that image shouldn't be showing yet. We greatly appreciate being made aware of it so we could remove that segment with this image that pops in; sorry it got past our editing! You can check out the table of contents in the video description for updated time stamps.
Also, some helpful things we wanted to add:
(1) Crossing over in meiosis has a major role in producing genetically diverse offspring; however, Pinky learned in one of her graduate courses that mitosis crossing over- while very rare (likely why it's uncommon to see it discussed in intro bio courses)- can occur. It can have a role in human cancer and "loss of heterozygosity." While this unusual event is not discussed in this intro video, here is a further reading suggestion where you can learn more about it: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2648873/ (2) Our video is intended to focus on animal cells (as drawn). Our Venn diagram shows some differences of mitosis and meiosis, but there are some exceptions to this, such as in plants. This venn diagram does not apply to all organisms (such as plants). (3) We've noticed comments asking if cells are diploid or haploid after meiosis I. They are haploid after meiosis I. If you would like more information about why this is, check out one of our favorite references---the peer-reviewed open source textbook based at Rice University OpenStax. Here is the exact page where it discusses this: cnx.org/contents/GFy_h8cu@11.6:GYZS3DDP@9/The-Process-of-Meiosis

Amoeba Sisters wow I didn’t know about mitosis crossing over, so interesting! Thanks for providing the link. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. THEY ARE GREAT FOR CLARIFICATION. ♥️
Thank you so much for this! Without these videos, I would be SOOO lost! You guys are awesome!
Be my tcher pls
@@nimraaman925 in Mitosis crossing over does not take place. It happens in Meiosis 1.
@@avantika6077 When Dna duplicates in S phase of interphase having 46 Chromosome with 46 chromatid . After replication it forms 46 chromosome with 92 chromatid.
In each duplicated chromosome 2 chromatids are exact copy of each other and are known as sister chromatid.
These chromatid seperate in Mitosis to form two daughters.
Each daughter will have 1 chromtid out of two and as these chomatids were similar so they are exact copy of parent .
In Meisis crossing over takes place in Prophase so Chromatids are not similar so all 4 daughter are different.

I actually stumbled upon this channel by accident, but I'm SO glad I did. You explain stuff SO much better than my college Biology teacher. Subscribed!
P.S. I love the animations

I'm in middle school and watch these. NO FAIR! Ur older and do the same thing. #gettingreadyforfinals!!!😐
@@xsterawesome this is taught in college biology, a very small section but still taught. Meiosis and mitosis is something that will continue to reappear throughout all of your bio courses. Plus its always good to refresh your memory. I am a bio major and love all of the amoeba sisters videos.

Thank you so much for creating this video. After reading my lesson, book, and lab material several times, my mind was completely overwhelmed with information. This video was all the things I needed: straightforward, visual, accurate, and informative! I appreciate you so much right now.

No words!! Totally left me speechless!!My God! These 6 mins were totally worth it...Thanks for explaining such a confusing topic in a short, easy and simple way... Loads of love and Thanks once again!❤️🙏
This just explained two weeks of biology, thanks!
this is truly the best video explaining about mitosis and meiosis i found in youtube. Especially the 92 chromosomes part. It is so confusing but your video makes me understand it . Thanks a lot
JIZAKALLAH🌸♥️ really thank you from the bottom of my heart because I've been watching your videos since last two years and now even have got admitted into the medical college I am still waiting for new videos of yours clearing my concepts and making it fun to study and being honest the amoeba sisters are awesome🥰
I've been trying to understand the difference between Mitosis and Meiosis. This video helps so much! It explains everything perfectly and gives me an interest for the subject. Thank you so much Amoeba Sisters!
I wish all biology classes could be taught like this. It makes it way easier to understand things.
This channel is now the most favourite YT channel of mine!!!
It has made my biology study more enjoyable, interesting and easier!!!💖
You have saved my life I literally didn’t understand at all. I shall pass my my exam thanks to you. THANK YOU!!🙏

Really appreciate your works sisters.I had a headache on this chapter for not able to memorize things. But now your wonderful animations and funny way of teaching just made my day.
The lightbulb moments I get from this channel are amazing. They explain everything so well!!
i found your channel by an accident but you came out to be a life saver.. i havent understood this topic since 3 years and now here i am who understood it in less than 10min...THANK YOU!!!!
For some reason my brain still finds it difficult to understand, but this video has definitely helped me get one step closer to getting it.

Words can never be enough to express how much you help us by making Biology so much fun!!
Thank you for your endlessly helpful videos!! You have explained so many concepts in such an easily digestible way and I always come back to your videos for help when I am struggling with something.
This makes sooo much sense. I never understood it when the teacher explained over and over but this video is so clear and to the point.
Oh my gosh…. This makes so much more sense!!!! Thank you so much I’m taking anatomy and physiology in college and it is very stressful! But this was perfect at simplifying! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Yeah...amoeba sisters....i wish i had the two like you....😆
You forced me to love biology😇😇
I am attracted by your voice first when you are explaining in any of the videos. I never feel bored listening to the explanation. And I love this side-by-side comparison video. It helps a lot!! Thank you for the great videos!
I remember watching this in science class in 6th grade. now I moved to another country (8th grade currently) and have forgotten all about meiosis and mitosis till today. I rewatched many videos and quickly picked up what I learned before. thanks!
Beautifully done. This was explained clearly, concisely, and in an engaging manner and the mnemonic devices are excellent. I understood this more easily and completely than in the 3-hour lecture my teacher gave. As the physicists say- elegant!
Omg I needed this. I love how you memorize and describe the stages!! It's really helped me ❤ Thank you SO MUCH
This was so incredibly helpful. This video cleared up all confusion between the process of mitosis and meiosis! great job, guys! Thanks
Fun fact:-Just having knowledge doesn't make you a teacher you need to know how to teach, which the amobea sisters do know...better than any of our teachers..😂
I’m having my exam in 2 hours…..
Me right now lol
Thank you so much! Watching these videos, which are mostly under 10 minutes, helps me with my biology class so much. Biology used to be my least favorite class because I never understood it and was constantly stressed out, but these videos have made biology one of my favorite classes. The animations are funny and I've been a lot more confident and less stressed going into tests. This channel has really helped me ease my anxiety because I can be confident even if I don't know everything, I still know a lot and I'm able to explain it. I recommend these videos to everyone struggling in biology.
After watching this video about 5 times, and the separate mitosis and meiosis videos, I finally understand. Thank you!
me who's in the bathroom watching this in the middle of my exam..
Then why are you typing you should listen
i was multitasking 🫡
You're simply cheating dude
😂😂😂
lol better grab a headphone in case the teacher comes to take a break
Hey just wanting to let you know that you are one of the most amazing Biology teachers I've ever seen!
Bro like 2 years of lectures in 6 min which was wayy more clear....is totally unbelievable!!! THANK YOU!!❤
This side by side explanation is so dang helpful! I have my second Bio10 exam next week covering several subjects, including meiosis and mitosis. When put side by side like this, you can really see the obvious differences. Seeing that meiosis PMAT 2 is similar to mitosis PMAT 1 really helped me flesh out the differences and similarities. Mind blown over the zygote immediately starting mitosis, I was curious about this. So meiosis is JUST for creating sperm and egg, and once sperm and egg meet, it's back to mitosis. Awesome! This channel has been so helpful the last few weeks. Thank you! Love the info and artwork.
I have my science exam in 3 days and if I pass the genetics section it’s all thanks to you guys. Thank you so much for your videos, they are so helpful and actually make sense... unlike my science teacher 😭🙏🏼

I think this is the starting moment of understanding meosis for me - finally after a couple weeks of studying it. Thank you so much.
After seeing the comments from different corners of the world I realised we all are not happy wid our biology teachers.....thanks amoeba sisters : )
Oh my God It was so well explained that i almost cried tears of joy...thank you so much
thankyouuuu so muchhh!!! You make things much more easier to understand. When my teacher explained it, I didn't understand half she said but now because of your help, everything makes so much more sense. Thankyouuu!! You're such a life saverrrr
Wow! Thank you I don’t know what to say really! You really helped me out! Thanks once again. I watched all videos about meiosis and mitosis in this channel they are all great.

@@Ahmed-qc3bh What did you achieve by calling another person idiot?
Thank you so much for your videos!!! They really have gotten me through some serious "jams" in Biology. In Science, Biology is my favorite section, and that's what I wish to pursue later on. Your videos help me understand some of the hardest things in Biology, so thank you for all that you do. Soon, you should make a video comparing translation and transcription (if it works well) which is another one of those tricky topics in Biology.
I think why this video makes so much sense is that it explains the rather nuanced details that may confuse some individuals. These details are so necessary to be explained that otherwise would make the whole thing impossible to understand. It's like a chain reaction.
The only channel on TH-cam or in whole world that makes study joyful, full of laughter and also Easy to Learn

i'm a visual learner & this is helping me study for my exam with a professor who doesn't care if he helps or not! thank you
Thank you for making a video where we can simultaneously see the differences between the stages of mitosis and meisosis. This video made it more easier to understand ❤😊
OH my god you just saved me. The explanation and pictures cleared EVERY bit confusion I had. Bless this channel
Its really easy to understand the concepts from this channel. :)
Today I finally understood the actual concept behind duplication and division after a lot of struggle .
Thank you

Nah is really concerning that a 6 minute video teaches me better than a teacher in a month
I honestly tried so hard to understand meiosis and it just didn't make sense to me until a watched two of your videos. Thank you so much!!
Legit my class played a few of these science video things. Thanks for, uh, letting us kids space out in class (unless the teacher calls us out to answer a science question) and thanks for making the time go a little quicker.
Small note, at 5:49 it shows the oocyte with 23 chromatids, though oocytes pre-fertilization have 46 chromatids (post meiosis I) and undergo meiosis II just right after they combine with the sperm cell.
That was so cool!! Just what i needed!! Also loved the meme at the end
