They are designed to do that on heavy impacts to get the engine and the fuel tank away from the safety cell containing the driver. But still, it takes a very violent impact for that to happen. Front of the safety cell broke on one of the cars tho, you could see his feet. Luckly still attatched and he was moving to get out of the cockpit.

You can play it back from 2:08 at half speed. The car behind Black and Gold #7 takes an aggressive line on #7. Maybe not aggressive, but a dissimilar line. I think the aero dynamics played a factor here, but the braking seems the most misjudged. The heated rubber on the track allows a higher entrance speed, but following a car at that speed can, and in this case I think, did play a role in compromising the exit line. Very possible the tires were also heated at this point, his car does seem to go into the S at the limit. This is a tragedy. Thank you for sharing.

  • @HarrieWorst

What an impact... Sad day for racing. R.I.P. Antoine Hubert.
For all safety measures they take, Eau Rouge and Raidillon are just plain wrong. Too many bad accidents have happend already because the stupid way of how the impact barriers are placed. Jolyon Palmer's crash already should be a wake up call (and all those many before him). There should at least be a huge ass run off area with gravel at the end of it at the end of Raidillon at the end of the GT layout pitlane.
Yes, this was a freak accident, but it wasn't the first freak accident at the same spot. In this day and age of safety, this is wrong in every sence. With as sad outcome, the passing of a youngster who had a whole life ahead of him...

They obviously wouldn't have known what was happening and the off-track entertainment is hardly a priority for circuit management in a situation like this plus part of their major incident plan could well be to keep off track entertainment going anyway as trying to prevent the public from leaving the site is nearly all ways part of the major incident plan to keep the roads clear for the emergency services and that is easier to do with off track entertaining going.

He wasn't actually on the track after he bounced off the tire wall, his car came to a near stop before Juan hit him at the tarmac runoff of the corner exit. Juan probably had gotten slightly loose after seeing the tire smoke ahead of him and went wide at the exit where Huberts's car was stopped.

two cars had seperate accidents and met in the middle.
hubert had already crashed, his survival cell already having done it's job at the top of the hill to the right of the circuit where his first impact is, i can't find footage of his crash perspective or a perspective on how his car crashed specifically the first time only the aftermath of it, ofc the FIA has access to all of it.
second car (i still don't know who the driver is but he walks away) loses it halfway through eau rouge en route to radillon, leaves the circuit in a spin/half-spin and collides with the walls on the outer left of the circuit.
i can only assume the car then ricochets into the path of hubert's who is now stationery at the scene of the second impact for both cars.
second car doesn't go into a spin after contacting the wall to the left of the circuit, seemingly get's ricochet off the wall into hubert's car and is unable to scrub speed for various reasons.
second impact occurs, hubert's car splits in two from the impact with either the second car or the second impact with the wall, likely both with great emphasis on the car to car impact, i can't tell from the footage if the safety cell has been penetrated or if hubert has just succumbed to blunt trauma with whatever this crazy impact speed of the incident is.
his safety cell has deformed though when we look at the full crash aftermath, so that's something i haven't seen for a long long time in any open wheel racing.
seen them break in two, be split open, etc, but never deform inwards unless we go back into historical footage but the cockpit wasn't even called a survival cell then.
one major worry with this incident is that the survival cell of one driver has probably killed another driver, i don't want to hazard guessing with blurry photographs whether or not hubert's survival cell has been penetrated by the other car but it certainly looks that way and one can only imagine how gruesome the scene would have been.
at the very least it has deformed his survival cell cause it's indented on the left side which was the point of impact with the other car.
commentary in other languages can be heard saying the monocoque isn't even intact, which i hope would be referring to the rear assembly of the car parting ways with the rest of it, but that would just be hopeful ignorance. :/
      RIP hubert.
hate to see it but at least we can make the future safer.

That was G. Alesi in car #20. This is a good angle of his crash. He just lost it going up Eau Rouge. And I haven't seen any footage of Hubert making contact with Alesi... but of course we've all seen the contact of Correa into Hubert.

Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert has passed away aged 22 after sustaining injuries in a crash during the series’ opening race at Spa-Francorchamps.
The Renault junior - the reigning GP3 Series champion - was fighting to break into the top 10 with his Arden-prepared car when he was caught up in an accident with Giuliano Alesi - who lost control of his car at Eau Rouge.
Hubert was then hit at high speed by Sauber Junior Team driver Juan Manuel Correa at the exit of the Raidillon corner.
The FIA has confirmed that Hubert succumbed to his injuries at 1835hrs local time, over an hour after the accident.
Correa was also taken to hospital and is described as being in a stable condition. Alesi has been released from the medical centre.
Hubert has won two races in Formula 2 this season - at Monaco and Paul Ricard - and was eighth in the championship as the series’ second-highest placed rookie in the standings.
He was in line to take a top F2 drive next year owing to his strong performances and was well thought of in the Renault Formula 1 team.
The son of a French national rally driver Francois, Hubert won the French F4 championship in his first season in car racing in 2013.
After two seasons with Tech 1 in Formula Renault, he contested a single season of European Formula 3 with Van Amersfoort in 2016 before two seasons of GP3 with ART Grand Prix. The second in 2018 gave him the drivers’ title and helped ART to win a seventh out of eight teams’ titles before the series merged with European F3 to become FIA Formula 3 in 2019.
His strong performance in GP3 earned full Renault backing for 2019 - which also helped to place him at Arden for this season. With a new tie-up with HWA, the Arden squad has improved enormously over the course of the year.
Motorsport.com extends its sympathy to those who knew Anthoine at this difficult time.

All started from the crash of Alesi. From this view finally is evident how Alesi lost totally control just at the end of chican in some strange way. Was clarified why? tyre? rear wing ?

that was why his car was taken in for police checks hence he had to take Boschungs car for the race after. That will be up to FIA if the reason becomes pubic as we had no word from FIA in why this fatal crash happen and what steps to prevent a repeat

It is IRRESPONSIBLE that they did not remove EAU ROUGE A long long time ago! Far too dangerous section of track!

    • @ShadowViewsOnly
      @ShadowViewsOnly 5 ปีที่แล้ว

No it isn't. It was a driver's fault. You can clearly see the tires just weren't warm enough to take that corner at the speed he tried to, and grip was lost altogether, then he overcorrected, and smashed right into the wall, and the impact was so big he got one from the other side wall too.
So Eau Rouge has nothing to do with the accident.

    • @Kevin_40

@@ShadowViewsOnlyHere is some more proof that Eau Rouge is and always has been stupidly way too dangerous. They should have made the section less dangerous a long time ago. I bet they will now after today's tragedy. Anyway, here is some horror crashes at Eau Rouge. th-cam.com/video/2sP_F66NB6Q/w-d-xo.html / th-cam.com/video/4XYGGPa-kZU/w-d-xo.html

If they removed any part of a circuit that was dangerous then there'd be alot of 20mph corners and it would become a very boring sport....just like formula E. The drivers know the risks and always have but do it for the love of the sport.
