Where is everyone from and what kind of winter do you get? ❄️ 🌿
Hamilton, Ontario! same winter as you ❄️🌿🌵
Philippines 🌱
Tropical Oshawa, Ontario 🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴
Northwest illinois 😣
Québec can. 🥶
I am so glad you made this! I was literally just thinking about how many people are going through their first winters with plants!!!!
riiiight...there’s so many new plant parents since Covid months ago. 😅
I'm one of them!! 😩 I'm little nervous. I live in northern California
@@aracelisantacruz5161 you have nothing to be afraid of. 😁 I'm from Finland. In the middle of the winter we get only few hours of sunlight in a day. Like seriously! I'm talking about 3-4 hours of sun. And the temperature can get like your freezer. 😂
I'm going through my first winter and I am sorta terrified lol
@@aracelisantacruz5161 I live in Sacramento and im worried lol
Mirrors, like the one you have, are actually a great way to increase light in darker areas. I use them across the room from my east-facing window to increase light in the room.
So true. Thanks for the reminder.
“May the odds be ever in your favor” 👀😂
Yeah, that was cute .
We just got our first snowstorm today and believe me, I am SO SAD!! I am so ready for summer!!!!! Also, putting grow lights in your home will not only make your plants happy, if you get the right lights, it helps with seasonal depression too!! That’s what I call a twofer!!!
I love how sciencey we’re getting! Cute diagrams 😂
Haha. Thanks...thought it would be a fun addition. 😁
So happy to have found a plant youtuber so close to me! It gets so tiring only ever hearing from people in california and other hot, mainly winterless climates. I'm from a small town just outside of Toronto and winters can be BRUTAL. I hate the cold just as much as my plants do, I'm already impatiently awaiting spring and the growing season lol
I swear your intros are the best 😂😘✨😎🌱🌵💚
😂 Thanks!
As a science teacher, I am so happy at how well you explained seasons and how the tilt of our planet affects intensity of sunlight ☺️ well done!
Wow. Thank you. That means a lot. I was a little concerned that I may not have explained this properly.😅
What on earth are you talking about?! Just Incase any of your students read this, the temperature has nothing at all to do with ‘being closer or further away from the Sun’ that distance change is nothing. It’s entirely about what angle the sunlight hits.
@@jordandudley6245 please reread and see that they didn’t say anything about the temp in this comment 😂😂
Small note, the higher up North you go, the days are LONGER in summer. so Torronto will see more hours of daylight than L.A. 😁
@@jordandudley6245 You literally came in WRONG and STRONG
“When I was a child I used to look forward to the winter months... ice skating and tobogganing over the weekend, a lot of fluffy white snow days drinking hot cocoa by the fire... I’m just kidding, that never happened.”
LMAO growing up in Buffalo NY that is just all too relatable.
You have some of the most beautiful, well put together and aesthetically pleasing plant set up i've ever seen :) it blends so well naturally into your home while maintaining composition!
Thank you for this!!! I’ve been so worried about my plants now that it’s getting cold 😪😪 I don’t want to lose them!! I’ve worked so hard to keep them alive :(
Most of them will be fine. Just try and mirror the environment they were use to, keep warm, bright light and extend that day light and cut back on watering.
Just think if you are the plant, would you be able to grow without food, heat, water. What would happen to the human body if it was constantly cold.
Nice diagrams professor Christian
I’m in Long Island NY, it gets cold and snowy but with climate change it’s mild compared to 10-20 years ago
Haha Thanks! 🤓 I’ve been to NY so many times buy never been in Long Island. 😊
@@CrazyPlantGuy same weather Im about 30 away by rail, the snow disappears faster in the city cause the sept sanitation kick ass
Love that you used Anchorage Alaska in your example!!!! That’s where I watch you from 😍
Hello, I want to move to Alasksa, however I'm unsure how my plant obsession will fare there.
Any tips, advice, or information on keeping plants in Alaska? What type of plants to best? Do you use grow lights? How does natural lighting work? It's really nice to see someone who is also a plant addict that is currently keeping plants in Alaska! It gives me hope that one day I'll be able to as well!
@@k.mae.k hiii I’m pretty new as a plant mom! But pretty much you’ll definitely need grow lights and humidifierS! Plural. Haha. Unfortunately our winter is very dry and even more inside with the heater on 24/7. I have a hard time keeping the humidity right. I do have a large south face window in my plant room so that helps greatly. We do have Alaska plant groups on Facebook :) where everyone help each other. Tips and what has worked or not. Search for “Alaska Houseplant Enthusiasts” (4,800 members).
Should have used Fairbanks. Further north than Anchorage.
i’m a first time plant parent and this had been on my mind for the longest. thank you for this!
This is my first winter as a plant parent. Didnt know I was doing so much many things wrong. Lost almost all my leaves on my night blooiming jasmine. Thanks for making this video.
Hi, not trying to be rude but I thought you should know that the variation in temperature and the changing seasons is not because of the difference in distance from the sun, it's the incident angle of the light from the sun at a particular part of the planet at a particular time of year. During the winter, the incident angle of the light coming from the sun at that location is more oblique and during the summer, the incident angle is more squared off. The more oblique the incident angle, the less energy is being absorbed by the atmosphere and earth, and so the lower the temperature. I know this video is a little old so this is probably too little too late but I wanted to make sure you knew for the future! As for the tips you suggest, I appreciate everything you have to say!
Awww all these plant parents. Happy growing ❤️
Even though I'm in Southern Mississippi and we typically get a very mild winter... i still experience a bit of stress over all the gloomy days! But plants are so resilient and amazing and as I get more experience with plants the stress has shrunk a bit! I just love them and want them to thrive 24.7 365
I know the feeling, even though I’ve gone through a few winters, I have new plants that hasn’t gone through winter with me yet, so I get a little evict concerned, but like you said, we need to tap into the past experience and apply them. Every year we get better. Good luck 🤞🏼
Thank you so much for this video! As a new quarantine plant mom, im studying up to make sure my 15 plants are gonna get through the Canadian winter, so this was super helpful
I’m a new plant parent and this will be my first winter and I ordered grow lights just last night! Glad to hear that I made the right choice
loved this!! Extremely visual learning!
I just got those miracle lights to add for supplemental light this winter. My first year in North Carolina, so im looking forward to learning in this new environment and how my plants will grow. 😍
I’m so glad you made this! 👏🏽 so many great ideas! Thank you!
I’m a visual learner, so I very much appreciate the fun little drawings. Thank you!
Love the video! One correction, in summer, the farther south you are, the less hours of sunlight you will have. For example, Alaska will have 18 to 20 hour days, but LA would only have maybe 15 or so. So you might have longer days in summer than LA!
So happy you covered this topic! I've been anxious to see how my plant babies will do through the winter- I have many more this year than I did last! Thank you for the helpful info
Also, could not take my eyes off of your mirror!! So unique 😍
From Quebec, montreal. Winters are hectics, somedays it's sunny and really cold (-35C) and sometimes gloomy and wet with ice rain (+4C), depending of the years. In the few last years it has been especially warm but cloudy, so growlights are becoming less of an option, especially with succulents. Thanks for the indept walkthrough! :)
I'm from Minnesota. Dealt with 2 winters now (originally from California), my love for plants really took off when I moved to MN. I just don't water my plants that often during winter. Glad this video is out so I can make more adjustments to better care for my plants during the colder months.
This is my first winter with my new plant collection- mostly Calethea & other tropical plants
Going crazy as these cheap humidifiers are not making a difference in my humidity level at all.. so I ordered a few of those humidifiers you got & im hoping it’ll work once I get them .. thanks for all the videos
Ps: I live in Vancouver Canada
Nice, I assume you have better humidity during winter than I would. But humidifiers will help increase it. Good luck this winter 😊🌿❄️
Catherine it is a losing battle. Put your humidity lovers under glass if you can. I live in the desert and no matter how many humidifiers I had, the air conditioner and heater just suck it right back out.😢
I loved your "hold on i made a drawing for this" haha you're so awesome
Thank you for this!! I was looking for good grow lights and plant care tips for winter! ❤❤🌻🌻
Thank you so much for talking about pests! I was feeling so bad about having fungus gnats.. its nice to know im not failing my plants and that even you deal with pests! :)
LOVE your sketches!! 🥰😄 I cannot wait to cut back on watering! 🤗 Ooooo plant heaven! I like that. I have a lot plants there now RIP! haha!
Love the white board ! Thanks for thr tips!
Ah you’re also from Toronto!! That makes this video extra helpful haha
Ottawa here so still helpful!!!
Thanks for the reminder video! We all needed it!
I live in The Netherlands in a energy-label-G apartment, so the situation can get very cold 😂 but because of that the humidity is always above 65%, I have a humidifier but it runs maybe 30 minutes a day when I use heater in the evening. Plants are still giving out new leaves so I assume they like it ^^ and it's my first autumn/winter season as a plant keeper
Excellent! 🌿
Very helpful.. It's encouraging to know we can get thought this 🙏🏼
I’m so glad you made this!! It was 41 degrees last night in San Diego and the first thing I did this morning was run to my plants to make sure they were ok 😭
Super helpful video. Thank you for sharing 🙏 I especially lit up over how you use grow lights. Brilliant! That resonates with what plants would naturally want as they are not in sunlight 24/7 out in nature. Just LOVE your backdrop😍
Omg thank you so much for all your information I am a newbie to the plant society and loving all the information that you’re giving us this is be my first winter with my Hoyas and hopefully all will go well
I just love the new shelves in your bedroom. They make the plants look great.
This info will be valuable during my first winter, I'm hoping living in Vegas the odds are on my side lol. The drawings were great, this is stuff I'm not hearing in other winter vids and every little tip helps. Thx have a great week!
Love your greenhouses I must get them for my many calatheas 😍
Thanks for the tips 😊
Lol your dog. ❤️ I live in Windsor ont. so. Thanks for the tips !
We love ya Chris!!
Hugs from San Diego Ca.
Yesssss I needed this video!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Welcome back! Good video! Good tips
Thank you for this! Happy planting ❤❤❤
So happy you made this! Thank you! Love your videos buddy!
3:55 😍 the string of hearts
amazing video!!!! def gonna use these tips when i do my plant walk around this week ❤️❤️
Amazing tips thank you Christian!! 🌷☘️
Thank you for this video! I just moved from Florida to Indiana and my plants have never faced real winter. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep them alive!
Thanks 👍,. I love all you plants collection.
East Tennessee here, I'm preparing for Winter now. Figuring out placement of plants and windows in the room where they'll be. Fun stuff. 😬🙃 thanks for the video! 👍🏻
Thank you for mentioning us in Anchorage, AK. 🥰 great video.
Thank you for this video!! I live in Minnesota now and have been wondering about getting my plants through winter. Weirdly, my plants are doing much better here than the ones I had in L.A.! I owe it to having a huge south facing bay window now, and increased humidity.
That was very informative from beginning to end🍀💚🤓THANKS!
Great video!
In Maryland, we get some pretty cold days, not much snow lately, but maybe this year. We supplement with grow lights and humidifiers.
Love your image references 👌
This is the video I needed!! Thank you
Didn't know you're in Toronto! Ty for the great tips :)
I just found your channel today. I have to say, I’m very impressed. You are interesting and informative. I am in such envy of your plants 🌱! It shows how much you love your plant babies! Thank you for what you do.
Omg this is my number one request for a video thank you for this!!!! I needed the tips!
This was truly helpful. Im a new plant mom since the summer, and I was stressing about my hoyas. I killed a few because of trying to get rid of fungus gnats, so now I know better. Im being supercareful with them.
So helpful!!! Thank you so much!!
LA would have less hours of sunlight during summer than Toronto. The difference between summer and winter gets more extreme, the more north you go
And in the Arctic the sun barely sets around June 21. Like in Grise Fjord, Nunavut, they get almost 24h of sunlight around that time!
Yes that’s correct, my mistakes it’s opposite. Good catch on the detail. 😁
I’m in New York. Just bought a couple new plants yesterday. Trying to decide where to put them but this video was very helpful in terms of winter care!! Thank youuuu!
Time zone sucks, we are in spring going for summer. I will have to watch this video again next year in autumn to prepare plant
Like now I just woke up to this video to start my day not that I am complaining. Much love South Africa
You are hilarious. I love your intros 💕 Funny how u mentioned Sharina... I love her too.
Thank you for this video 🥰 it was really helpful! I am currently living in Germany and it’s getting 🥶 colder day by day and I hope I can make my plants survive this winter. it’s their first one 🎄
OOOOO!!! omggg the set uppp!!! I love the black contrast, the gold 3D mirrors, the floating shelfff~ ahhh Beautiful. Also the way my mouth dropped when you said "may the odds be ever in my favor" I'm in Wisconsin and the seasons are starting to change TT hence the panic and realization that my plants are already hungry for light
You’ve already saved my plants. Thank you! Lol
Great tips, I'll be improvising a green house this winter, thanks for sharing 🤗
What is your plan?
Nice the way you have the plants beautiful 😍 ❤
Thank you so much for this video!!!
Love the drawings! 😁
So good! Thanks I really needed this
Very beautiful set up
These are all awesome tips!! Great great video!! Thank you so much 🤙🤙🤙
I live in Arizona, so lots of sunlight, but usually less than 10% humidity. 🌿🌵🌞
Thank you for this video Christian! I am a new plant mom and have been worried about taking care (read: keeping alive) of my new plant babies during winter. I too live in Toronto, so imma do exactly what you advised (I took notes, including your diagrams LOL)! Love your videos!
Why do people think that thumbing down Christian's video is going to stop his love for plants?
That’s what I said. Nothing can stop me 😁💚🌿
@@CrazyPlantGuy nothing or no one will knock you off your square. I love your energy.
Maybe they clicked dislike accidentally? 🤔
I think some people don't necessarily like or dislike a video, they're just not interested in that subject, so they want the youtube algorithm to take note of that preference
I never understand a thumbs down or very few likes for so many views! I'm a thumbs upper for all vids I watch 👍🏽👍🏽
I love your drawings and explanations as much as i do your plants! U are a wonderful teacher & plant dad
Thank you for this video. Very helpful for a first time plant mama like me
i know this is so besides the point, but where did you get that mirror LOL
He won it!
@@ladyveevee2888 thats incredible i am jealous!! :-)
Wonderful suggestion
The video I was waiting for🥰🥰thankkkkkkkssss
Thank you so much for the plant caring tips. I am first time indoor planter and worried about the winter months... this helps a lot...
Thank you so much for this. Very informative, which is what we all need. Your drawings also help 😉
Im in Quebec! Hopefully all my plants survive the winter monthss
Hayward California.... just now getting cooler. Been summer like until now
Thank you for this awesome video..i appreciate all your tips and advice
Glad you found it helpful.
Thank you....your info was very helpful
This video came in need ^^ New plant parent here entering the first winter! And here in Finland it can be really harsh for my poor plants T^T
ThAnk you for this video! I love my plants and I live in NJ, so it is cold here right now. I’m a bit afraid for my plants. Thanks for sharing this!
