I was in the mall with my dog in training and a unpredicted test came about when a little kid wasn't paying attention and ran around a corner and straight into my dog. The kid apologized quickly and my dog looked at me like "that was weird" i was so proud.
My toddler does the same thing right now. She will ask but doesn't wait for the answer yet. I have to literally run to get between her and anything furry. Thank you for 1- having patience with learners and 2- advocating the safety of the dog, the owner and the learners by reminding everyone the dogs temperament is just as important as educating the humans out in the wild. ❤
We unfortunately had an experience like this and now I’m still trying to properly introduce young toddlers to my now pet. We wherent able to continue with public access as he became terrified of the little person.
Omg leash o kids yup now my guide dog is not a fan of crying kids she just isn’t and will actively avoid them but one day kid starts doing what this kids did the parent whips around I can hear their feet and the parent actually grabbed the kid apologized and proceeded to tell them why they aren’t allowed to pet service dogs I was thrilled
I was doing my CGC urban test at tractor supply and a 6 year old crying and yelling ran towards my pup pointing at it and I had to think quick as my pup let out a deep bark as I then got her attention and walked opposite direction from the kid.
I have had grown men reach for my dog when I say no. But she’s so cute. I want to yell at them. People don’t understand that they scare animals this way. And without the training, or at my home, do this and my dog would bite them. The people that try to pet a service dog after being told no, are the first ones to call the police when they get bit by a dog in the yard or in a vehicle.
Parents need to teach their kids how to respect space and behave around animals. They also need to supervise much more closely. My husband and I have been blessed with several children, but we absolutely wouldn't tolerate that type of behavior. Adults can be awful too though. Our 9 week old labrador puppy (who is now 5 yrs old) was in a Tractor Supply Company store with me and a couple of our kids. A grown man walked up bent down as if to pet her, but instead grabbed her by the scruff and shook her. She wet the floor she was so scared. He laughed about it.😡 My kids and I were in shock. It was traumatic for all of us, but devestating for our then puppy. She developed stranger anxiety that required yesrs of behavior therapy, training, and anxiety supplements. Through a ton of wotk the past 5 years we've managed to get her to the point that she can geeet calm, dog friendly people in stores and even made a friend of a Petco employee, but she still requires help and reassurance with most people. We just flat out turn and walk away from questionable people whether young or old. She's the sweetest dog and no doubt would have been a happy-go-lucky lab if not for that man's behavior. So sad.😥
Dang! That's heartbreaking. Who the heck goes up and shakes a puppy? Would he go up and shake a baby? I'm so sorry your puppy and your family had to go through that. 😓
I mean, my dog only listens to a few people anyway, but there are commands that he doesn't really know in English anymore, because they're in Spanish or Japanese. And that's a part of the reason why
Let’s normalize telling kids no they can’t pet the dog I feel like too often even the kids that do ask always get told yes creating an expectation of being allowed to pet the dog regardless of the answer I also feel like there’s too much pressure on dog owners to say yes to be polite even if they don’t feel like having that interaction
I don't have a service dog, but I'm always shocked that people don't teach their kids to not try to pet strange dogs... that was the first thing I drilled into my kids when they were big enough to move independently. Don't approach strange dogs or people... why have people stopped teaching their kids this?
I have a guide dog from guide dogs for the blind, and they will career change dogs that have ever snapped at anything even once. They understand us blind people cannot always see these situations and therefore our pups have to have the best temperaments. I will say, my dog Ocean’s, and my last guide Dundee’s kind sweet temperament has led to so many scary situations not being scary Children will children, and mean rude adults will be mean rude adults I’ve had so many people just come and touch my dog with me saying no
Girl I had a kid rush us growling! My dog looked at me like "mom wtf is this". We were practicing focus. The kids mother was so rude about the situation. I don't understand parents these days
I’m lucky my two German shepherds aren’t people reactive, because the amount of times I’ve been to farmers markets or pet friendly stores and people assume they’re friendly is CRAZY. Parents just letting their kids run up to my dog, one who is muzzled half the time. Parent your kids!
Okay I am emailing my senator and city council about creating this child leash law, what are we thinking? Any child under 10? Is that fair? 😂😂 (just kidding!)
Unfortunately, many parents do not parent their children. Excellent point! I had a toddler reach up and grab Bear's ear. It happened too quickly, and Bear did nothing. The mom finally showed up to retrieve the child. Bear was only a year old at the time.
Daughter is employed at Wallyworld with her service dog. She gets this all the time. Gen Z parents failing to teach their children RESPECT is part of the problem. Yea, yea I know. I can already feel the hate. Don't Care. Have a Blessed day.

Yes kids are kids. Their parents need to help them to recognize when touching a strange dog is OK. The answer is never.

Absolutely. Kids bother me a lot less than adults. Kids are still learning. Adults should know better.
We unfortunately had an experience like this and now I’m still trying to properly introduce young toddlers to my now pet. We wherent able to continue with public access as he became terrified of the little person.
Yes!! Similar situation happened with mocha the other day, temperament and stability matters so much!!

@@mandarue5104 thanks. It was a total shock. I agree, who does that?!?
Amen
I hate it when they do that. I also hate it when they come up and bark at your dog or start giving it commands.🤬
I mean, my dog only listens to a few people anyway, but there are commands that he doesn't really know in English anymore, because they're in Spanish or Japanese. And that's a part of the reason why
That's why I recommend when people ask you what your dog's name is. Give them a fake name, so your dog won't listen.

@@Autistic_Daughter_Of_The_King she doesn't.listen to them anyway , but it annoys the fudge out it me. It's like they are testing her.

Even with grown adults this happens.
I blew some kid's mind, telling him he couldn't pet the puppy. "But, I said, 'PLEEEEEEEEASE!!!'" I don't think anyone had said , "No, " to him before.
I have had adults do the same thing then start arguing with me that they should be able to because they are an adult.
ok Kaaren
How is she a Karen? She's training her dog..
my puppy doesn’t ever get scared from stuff like that but she gets excited- did denver think it was time to play or did he just sit there?
he sat there, but I was managing/feeding him while fending off the kiddo.

This happens to me with my hyperreactive dog all the time. I am so upset with children, parents and people who don’t understand the reason why…..
Regardless if it is a service animal or not, you should ALWAYS ask before petting the puppers (and wait for the owners decision 🙄)
It’s insane the lack of parenting I see right now. It’s your kid you cannot just let them run off and touch things they have no business touching.
