As someone who's pretty dumb, I agree. The arrow is there to tell me "Hey buddy, see that red line? You already noticed, that. This arrow is to remind you that you understood the concept. I'm so happy for you little fella!"
I love your videos and have watched every single breakdown video and roast youve done and learned so much, but the way you talk about mrbeast specially at the end like hes some kind of villain that ruined youtube and ruined a generation of creators and destroyed the platform etc... just sounds so wrong and makes you look very bad and discredits everything you say in my opinion and makes me want to stop watching, there's a reason hes the biggest youtuber in the world, why he broke every view record there is, consistently gets over 150M views per video and raised the bar so high for what was known as "Just a youtuber" can do specially with the new Amazon deal... Its not his fault that other youtubers decided to just copy what hes doing thats how life is... Apple came out with the airpods and suddenly every single company has its own airpods and you can get ones for 1$, that doesnt mean apple destroyed the airpods market.... Im not saying there is no room for improvement and mrbeast is the god that makes no mistakes, but he didnt reach 250M subs and billions of views/month following every single storytelling theory and editing masterclass, saying he destroyed the platform while being one of the only creators pulling in this amount of views just sounds so silly from your part. No hate i love your breakdowns but as a viewer and creator as well, i just thought id share my opinion, all the love ❤❤
And focusing on tiny details like the arrow, vine boom and font is definitely something that put me off... This is core mrbeast brand identity and editing style that the fans got used to and enjoy you cant take that away just because editing has to be this perfcet cinematic style. Imagine if "Friends" suddenly changed their intro song after 9 seasons and 218 episodes, fans would be PISSED..
When it comes to the “arrow to the red line” point, I do agree with you that in a lot of cases there is no need for the arrow. But with the scale of how many viewers Jimmy has, and with the numerous people with color blindness that might not get pulled in by the color itself, I think it’s understandable and he’s just making the video a bit more accessible to people with disabilities without trying to take away from the rest of the typical viewers.
I think the vine boom is relatable to his target audience. Most viewers aren’t editors and wouldn’t realize that. I don’t really see a problem with the arrow, it last 1-2 seconds. Either audience won’t mind or it will give some people clarity. Low risk, higher reward. But the concept of intelligence was great to initiate. I think this video is a great idea for editors to learn and improve filmmaking but Jimmy is nearly #1 for a reason. TH-cam isn’t about perfection, but connection
phenomenal video. i was very impressed with this on jimmy's end, and as always, you put into perspective why that is in an entertaining way. you're making waves, man. i think your advice and expertise is finally gonna change youtube for the better, and i'm so excited to witness that. just one thing, bro. i do think the course plugging was a bit much. comedy comes in threes, and i think enjoyability does as well. would've been fine that many times, but ironically like the vine booms, i was just thinking "alright man i get it" haha. i'm sure the course is great though and as a longtime viewer, i'll definitely be purchasing it as soon as i get the chance. hope you aren't afraid to make your videos longer like this one, too! this was awesome
@@OriginalMasterNAI Hey guys I have bought Hilliers course on creator-now (I like it a lot) and I wonder: After my Creator-Now subscription ends will I have still access to the course or will it be gone with the subscription? Have a nice day everyone edit: This video is amazing :D it is so satisfying to sometimes know exactly what is Hillier going to say before he says it and Im still learning a lot. But I disagree with the comment on the vine boom sound effect, Jimmy is using it because it is so familiar for his young audience. You can see Ryan Trahan doing this in his videos too with roblox "uhm" sf and he often shows some really popular product like prime or mcdonalds.. General audience likes to see / hear references of what they know for some reason.
I find myself agreeing consistently on a personal level, but disagreeing on a strategic level. I think you massively underestimate the universality of treating people as dumb and retaining that low budget vibe like the vine booms etc. You probably summarised the whole approach when you said "aah, most people won't notice...." In other words, you live in a Creator/Editor Echo Chamber...... Jimmy has the largest and most diverse audience on TH-cam for a reason! Still loved this video and agreed with everything from my own personal taste perspective tho..... 😂
I’m a junior editor & completely agree with Hayden’s points!! I don’t like the font Mr Beast uses either or the retention editing ( it would be soooo much better if it was done but slower rather than craming everything into a 10+ minute video )!! Thanks Hayden, I love your videos
This was so amazing Hayden. One of the best breakdowns on your channel but more importantly, the editing on this roast is incredible. I really like all the graphics you used to showcase the audio waves and cuts, etc… I fkn love you bro 🙌
I really doubt anyone pays attention even subconsciously during the watching experience to that tiny strip of red inbetween the contestants at the start. Bit of an overanalysis there Hayden, no?-using the benefit of the slowed down, in terms of the effect of the analyzed bit on the viewing experience, methinks. Same as the 'if you zoom in you can see from his hand that its CGI' comment. I really doubt anyone (or very few) does that during the watching experience for it to be a valid criticism of the watching experience. It's overanalysis bias in the same way that VAR in football can make functionally insignificant things seem significant when removed from practical experience in real time and slowed down. In terms of making a better video, you're definitely right. It is the small things all added up that produce the overall increases in that wonderful thing we call quality.
Exactly what I was thinking! I think many designers struggle with this. Overdue stuff, that's unimportant for the casual watching experience and sometimes oversee or prioritize things wrong.
idk man just by watching this video alone you don't understand how much you have helped me in my personal video editing. The help has been so tremendous that i honestly felt like i gained you as friend by the end of the video. I can't thank you enough... you are incredible beyond describable words... and last but not least (vine boom) i will catch you in the next video. thank you for upping my skills and knowledge in content creation
If jimmy genuinely starts focusing and vocalizing this form of video editing and story telling, and sits on this, makes it clear how this type of content can be enjoyable, with the influence he has on the industry and the community, we might actually see new creators change their minds, and hopefully audiences too
Hey - I took your advice and signed up with Lickd and just posted my first video with a climactic premium music ending! Your posts are so inspiring. It's amazing to hear you talk about storytelling here and you have to be the only creator on this platform that is not telling everyone to 'be like Mr Beast' .. thank you. It is so refreshing 🙏🙏
You are Right and Wrong at the same Time but what you are saying is based on your point of view But l don’t wanna Lie that was the Best Video from Mr Beast and we quite enjoyed it . And us as MR BEAST Core Fans we enjoyed it when Mr Beast puts his Old Font and His Old Editing effects like the arrow and Vine Boom sound . It makes us to feel at Home or Sense of belonging because we are used with that Style . I watched your video till 9 Minutes and l think one of the reason why l didn’t go till the end is that l was starting to feel like you are now treating yourself as the Superior Editor in the World. It’s evident that you lare Raising Points on your Own Point of view but on the other hand please not that not anyone Likes your POV of that video because You are Thinking using Editor’s POV not our view as Audience. Please don’t get my message wrong l Love You Both with Mr Beast .
Yeah and ironically, Hayden told *us* to find our own font and that's clearly MrBeast's own font. When he said the arrow just make us feel dumb, clearly we don't know if some people are intelligent enough to understand what MrBeast was saying. The vine boom, I don't mind at all, but when Hayden reacted to it, I find it extremely funny; literally almost a lot of TH-camrs uses the vine boom. At 48:04, I would agree with Hayden. They should've not shown 58 stepping outside of his cube which it does make it less suspenseful which I think Jimmy's intention was to make that scene suspensful.
What’s crazy is I think what professional editors hate the most is actually his secret sauce. Vine boom, terrible font. Somehow, makes a billionaire feel normal and like a startup. It’s brilliant and relatable. Love this video and content Hilliard! Thank you
Tbh, I have no problem with his font and the vine boom. His hatred towards the vine boom made me laugh so hard; I couldn’t stop, but he’s not wrong it’s been overused though. Also the font, what I find funny is he told *us* to have our own font which that’s literally MrBeast’s own font. Also when Hayden roasted ZHC, he used the exact same font and Hayden never said anything about it.
Great stuff! But, 3 shoutouts to the same thing x.x I mean, I'm probs gonna get it, but I mean, the person who is still watching at 50 minutes probably watched the others too. Idk if this is the same as the 7 touches for marketing lmao
He uses these cheap sound effects to make it feel like a TH-cam video not some big Hollywood movie it’s still a TH-cam video core thing is simplicity I think
Well, don't worry about his hatred towards the Vine boom, though it IS funny when he gets enraged every time he hears it. The reason he hates it, it's because it's "cliché", it's overdone, etc. But if you like it, it's perfectly fine!
It had some amazing moments, but unlike the other video that was similar to this, I personally didn’t feel like I really knew anybody, no real character building, other than in some really rare instances, even among the “main characters”. And even though I got teary eyed three times, I personally think that if they were able to add more reality show type moments between the contestants (drama, relationship building, that it would have had a stronger impact, even if you had to cut down on the actual gameplay. I think they tried, but I didn’t feel really connected to anyone or fully rooting for everyone. One of the things that reality shows do (even though I really only watch them with my mom lol), and granted it’s over an entire season, but they allow you to get to know the contestants and by end you actively despise some of them and actively root for your favorite. I didn’t get that here. I also come from traditional Hollywood (though I’m slowly transitioning out to do my own thing) and have really close relationships with Oscar winners and just really smart and amazing storytellers, some who have been my mentors, so that may play into some of what I’m feeling. And I agree with a lot of your improvements that would have added to the impact or drama or sense of satisfaction.
To be more precise, the funniest part is when Hillier was laughing at the part with the dramatic boom (cuz he didn't realize it); but as soon as he realizes it, he flips 180 (He HATES the part now).
The thing is, as a successful TH-camr myself with over 10 years of experience and 4 million subscribers I know how peoples minds have started to become more and more obsessed with short form content. I have started becoming a low budget filmmaker in the last 2 years and in that time I've come to an interesting conclusion. Mr. Beast is competing for his viewers time and with him pouring in so much money into his content he would need to hook onto his viewers in a short time frame. long form content has been ruined by TikTok and other social media platforms that focus on just short content. The Pop Culture industry is going downhill fast because no one in Gen Z want to watch a video over 30 seconds long. In order for Mr. Beast to make enough money to justify how much he spends per video, he is forced to create long form content. The only way to grab on to his viewers attention is by making ADHD content and doesn't really have a choice. This whole thing isn't Jimmy's fault it's Gen Z's fault and as a Gen Z myself I can sometimes become bored of long form content and just scroll for hours because of the sheer amount of dopamine getting released in my head. The Gen Z's and Gen Alpha kids all crave this same dopamine but because they're spoiled by Shorts and TikTok, they cannot stay interested long enough. all of this is the same reason movies are bombing now days, is because no one wants to dedicate 2 hours to one "video" when they could watch thousands in the same time frame by scrolling. This in no way is Jimmy's fault and he actually has made people still watch some form of long content even if it is ADHD content.
Yh ikr , really though 1000 crappy short videos or 1 long great one , gen z and gen alpha have no attention span bro , also this guy is a bit annoying , Mrbeasts videos are good, this guys just annoying
Damn, you have INSANE amount of knowledge, gonna be honest, i was gonna dislike this at first, but what you said was completely logical and valid, great video.
i have watched 7 minutes of the video, title feels unnecessary till now and i have disliked the video for that, lets see if my opinion changes 15 minutes in still this is not so much roasting more of a detailed explanation. yup dude literally says what i just said 45 seconds later 20 minutes in, i am starting to ignore the title and starting to appreciate the actual opinion of this guy. 23:38 that 6 second bar and 8 second bar somehow became equal in height during the roll. 30 minutes in, this is just a great representation of the work of the editors, no much of roast, however, i am ignoring the title now, since he has made good points, pointed out nice things and pointed out expectations that are decent. 42 minutes in, blud has started to cry damn, talk about character development also yeah the video is more of a critical analysis of the jimmy's video rather than a roast. the title should have been :- 'unbiased constructive criticism of mrbeast's video for 1 hour straight ' 51 minutes in, yeah at this point i have sat back and relaxed and enjoyed the analysis. 3 ads for the same thing tho?? at this point i would have considered purchasing the thing after watching your content, but i am not rich enough to afford. sorry bro. 53 minutes in, oh yes also i have removed that dislike now. now that i have watched the entire video, i can say, the video is a banger in terms of editing education and constructive criticism, but the title threw me off for the starting 15 minutes. also, you said mrbeast ruined an entire generation of creators by his adhd content and in my opinion even though he made mind numbing content where i could not look away for 2 seconds and could not take in the grandeur of the actual content i would not say he ruined a generation of creators i would say he found out human nature and used it but everyone started to exploit it. i would say, that type of content is idiotic but i would also say that it worked to collect the masses then because thats how human mind is, we need to keep ourselves engaged inorder to be interested, but the method of adhd editing was definitely idiotic, i like this new way though. and now he has dropped a 10 minute real time video which kinda goes back to that adhd, but i will cut him some slack and let him cook. i know no one is gonna be reading this paragraph so in summary, he thought he was gonna roast but mrbeast ended up impressing him, i thought he was gonna yap trash but he cooked. lets see if anyone actually reads the summary even.
dude why are you so good at explaining everything idk how this will help with my vids but i probably will take some things you said in this vid. ❤️❤️❤️
BRO HOW IS THIS FREE? I've never seen a video about storytelling as great as this one. I'm 20 mins in and I've learned as much as 8 episodes of The Editing Podcast
I'm sitting here teary-eyed... I wasn't even tempted to watch the actual Mr. Beast story, but honestly YOUR reaction to HIS video is what got me! Great video!
I think he thinks that the whole og font thing and vine boom etc is part of his brand as a yt channel. Almost like he's still clinging onto that idea of 'any youtuber can be this big and do stuff like this' sort of thing. He said in a colin and samir video that he's stuck with 1080p instead of going to 4k to keep that authenticity and 'youtubie' feeling which ig makes sense. But yeah at the scale he's as now he can probably safely transition to just upgrading all his shit and getting better sound effects etc.
49:36 You criticize when mr beast advertize his product then here you are advertizing your course. Hahahahaha!!!! Hopefully i will get your masterclass for free with this comment hahaha. enjoying your video though learning from it.
3:17 So the ceiling lights were supposed to look like that? Also, he may say that, but that doesn't mean he's 100% right. He can lie to people that he didn't use CGI but darken the background. Have you heard that he's been receiving a lot of allegations from his former employee? He got exposed for making fake videos, but it's not really that big of a deal.
This video is one of the most inspiring videos I've ever watched, I've learned a lot, every moment (good or bad in the MrBeast's video) makes a lot more sense when you explained it. It's difficult to choose the exact words when you talk about transmitting emotions in a video, but you've made it pretty clear to understand. Thanks, Hillier, this is your best work so far, no doubt why you put 3 ads of your course, I get it, you also knew this video was going to hit different. Congratulations.
Organically, I think your thoughts on the Vine Boom are correct. The old ones were beautiful back then. There are trillions of new methods you can use in place of the outdated ones. PS: As a small note, your speech at the end was very impressive, but when you said "please make more of this," the video should have ended along with your sentence. That way, it would have been more effective, as you, teacher, have taught us!

@@KamalNehme completely agree with you mate
When it comes to the “arrow to the red line” point, I do agree with you that in a lot of cases there is no need for the arrow. But with the scale of how many viewers Jimmy has, and with the numerous people with color blindness that might not get pulled in by the color itself, I think it’s understandable and he’s just making the video a bit more accessible to people with disabilities without trying to take away from the rest of the typical viewers.

@@badboys.3 Why do you keep responding like this to comments, do you show any appreciation?
@@randomeditspremium I'm not sure if he was trying to get likes or what.
the way you pick up on the tiniest mistakes is so impressive haha, great video! :)
Your name is really close to sounding like a very famous austrian painter
I think the vine boom is relatable to his target audience. Most viewers aren’t editors and wouldn’t realize that. I don’t really see a problem with the arrow, it last 1-2 seconds. Either audience won’t mind or it will give some people clarity. Low risk, higher reward. But the concept of intelligence was great to initiate.
I think this video is a great idea for editors to learn and improve filmmaking but Jimmy is nearly #1 for a reason. TH-cam isn’t about perfection, but connection
mr beast has mastered youtube so it shows while editing is important its subjective
@@ibrar6364 yes
“TH-cam isn’t about perfection, but connection” I like that. Nice man
phenomenal video. i was very impressed with this on jimmy's end, and as always, you put into perspective why that is in an entertaining way. you're making waves, man. i think your advice and expertise is finally gonna change youtube for the better, and i'm so excited to witness that.
just one thing, bro. i do think the course plugging was a bit much. comedy comes in threes, and i think enjoyability does as well. would've been fine that many times, but ironically like the vine booms, i was just thinking "alright man i get it" haha. i'm sure the course is great though and as a longtime viewer, i'll definitely be purchasing it as soon as i get the chance.
hope you aren't afraid to make your videos longer like this one, too! this was awesome

Are you still working for creator-now
@@DVnc_ not anymore
@@OriginalMasterNAI Hey guys I have bought Hilliers course on creator-now (I like it a lot) and I wonder: After my Creator-Now subscription ends will I have still access to the course or will it be gone with the subscription? Have a nice day everyone
edit: This video is amazing :D it is so satisfying to sometimes know exactly what is Hillier going to say before he says it and Im still learning a lot.
Bro woke up & choose violence 💀
I find myself agreeing consistently on a personal level, but disagreeing on a strategic level.
I think you massively underestimate the universality of treating people as dumb and retaining that low budget vibe like the vine booms etc. You probably summarised the whole approach when you said "aah, most people won't notice...."
In other words, you live in a Creator/Editor Echo Chamber......
Literally What We All WAITED For!
The fact that Mrbeasts video after this one is a 10 minute migraine enduser with extremely fast energy. Its kind funny.
😂😂😂😂
The reversal shot for the 250k briefcase is so valid
This was so amazing Hayden. One of the best breakdowns on your channel but more importantly, the editing on this roast is incredible. I really like all the graphics you used to showcase the audio waves and cuts, etc… I fkn love you bro 🙌
Hahaha this is amazing. I love u Hayden
I'm loving this

Hiller, I want to watch every Mr Beast video with you know. This was such a joy
Agreed I personally like the cgi stuff I don’t care if it’s a a fake or real story . A story is a story
If jimmy genuinely starts focusing and vocalizing this form of video editing and story telling, and sits on this, makes it clear how this type of content can be enjoyable,
with the influence he has on the industry and the community, we might actually see new creators change their minds, and hopefully audiences too
Dude , your knowledge is awesome 🔥Deep dive editing breakdown of Mr beast video, Respect 🙏🏼
first time watching you, learned a lot, and you have an evil laugh.
Same, and exactly imo
Hey - I took your advice and signed up with Lickd and just posted my first video with a climactic premium music ending! Your posts are so inspiring. It's amazing to hear you talk about storytelling here and you have to be the only creator on this platform that is not telling everyone to 'be like Mr Beast' .. thank you. It is so refreshing 🙏🙏
How the heck do you have 122k subs averaging 3k views per video
Oh you had some viral shorts lolol
it's like watching a 1 hour jump scare. also I'm not 12, so just ignore me.

I agree with almost everything he went over in this video too.
a whole hour of hilliersmith? oh yeah time to get the notebook
Amazing how much you find wrong. I thought his videos were perfect or atleast close to it
i learnt many editing points from this video thanks smith
I don't think anyone is analyzing their TH-cam videos this much
Great stuff! But, 3 shoutouts to the same thing x.x
I mean, I'm probs gonna get it, but I mean, the person who is still watching at 50 minutes probably watched the others too.
I actually prefer watching a MrBeast video in this format haha
The funniest part of this video is Hillier raging at all the vine booms.
Yup 😂
The amount of knowledge you have is INSANE! I will be taking notes on ALL of your videos from now on 🤣 So much value in these videos, I love it!!
Absolutely FANTASTIC Work From Mr.Beast, Insane.
Damn, you have INSANE amount of knowledge, gonna be honest, i was gonna dislike this at first, but what you said was completely logical and valid, great video.
41:41 you know the editors have done a good job when hillier's that into it
Yup, Hayden is all about emotional experiences.
This guy roasts retention editing like its chicken…
buy the course, cant afford it right now but definitely not going to forget about it for later.
Love it🎉. The 40 min piece was great! (I also can't stand the adhd piece)
Was hoping you were gonna blow up ever fing, mate. Great content 🍻
i have watched 7 minutes of the video, title feels unnecessary till now and i have disliked the video for that, lets see if my opinion changes
15 minutes in still this is not so much roasting more of a detailed explanation.
yup dude literally says what i just said 45 seconds later
20 minutes in, i am starting to ignore the title and starting to appreciate the actual opinion of this guy.
23:38 that 6 second bar and 8 second bar somehow became equal in height during the roll.
30 minutes in, this is just a great representation of the work of the editors, no much of roast, however, i am ignoring the title now, since he has made good points, pointed out nice things and pointed out expectations that are decent.
42 minutes in, blud has started to cry damn, talk about character development also yeah the video is more of a critical analysis of the jimmy's video rather than a roast.
the title should have been :- 'unbiased constructive criticism of mrbeast's video for 1 hour straight '
51 minutes in, yeah at this point i have sat back and relaxed and enjoyed the analysis.
Yeah, it’s more of a breakdown instead if a roast
dude why are you so good at explaining everything
idk how this will help with my vids but i probably will take some things you said in this vid.
❤️❤️❤️
Mr.Beast Is Actually Justifying His Edits Now! Amazing!
BRO HOW IS THIS FREE?
I've never seen a video about storytelling as great as this one. I'm 20 mins in and I've learned as much as 8 episodes of The Editing Podcast
i like vine booms
I'm sitting here teary-eyed... I wasn't even tempted to watch the actual Mr. Beast story, but honestly YOUR reaction to HIS video is what got me! Great video!
Bro had a whole TedTalk roasting bro💀🤲
53:20 LMFAO
i want more like this video
I think he should roast Jesse James West next!
Amazing vid, just by watching you critisizing another video taught me a lot, big thanks 💯👍 Can't believe I watched all of this tho😂
Same here!
This aged well... nearly perfect
Nobody is looking that close but ay you got it bro. 😂 you deserve a like for make this an hour
Wait, which Colin and Samir video and what's the timestamp?
Hillersmith always coming out with bangers yo
This is spectacular 🔥 more reaction and editing breakdowns like this
Thank you that was a super valuable and helpful content
49:36 You criticize when mr beast advertize his product then here you are advertizing your course. Hahahahaha!!!! Hopefully i will get your masterclass for free with this comment hahaha. enjoying your video though learning from it.
LOL he knows that
Better than watching a movie 🍿
2:35
He did actually say once in an interview that shot is real they just darkened the background and might have mixed the shots altogether
Yeah I came to say this but you did already
3:17 So the ceiling lights were supposed to look like that? Also, he may say that, but that doesn't mean he's 100% right. He can lie to people that he didn't use CGI but darken the background. Have you heard that he's been receiving a lot of allegations from his former employee? He got exposed for making fake videos, but it's not really that big of a deal.
the amount of knowledge you put on explaining about the flow and edit, such a masterclass!
Im gonna see this video while im on the plane
bro actually said 1 hour straight
this is abslolutely brilliant
I’m dumb 🙋♂️ I didn’t notice the red line lol
I didn’t noticed the arrow lol
Organically, I think your thoughts on the Vine Boom are correct. The old ones were beautiful back then. There are trillions of new methods you can use in place of the outdated ones.
PS: As a small note, your speech at the end was very impressive, but when you said "please make more of this," the video should have ended along with your sentence. That way, it would have been more effective, as you, teacher, have taught us!
