Those beams look stout to me. I bought some 8” H beams cheap at an auction awhile back and I intend to use them for a simple but powerful splitter one day. Just subscribed!
Mike, my opinion is...if I beams are that readily available I’d sandwich 2 together for the main beam similar to what you did for the stop block. 4.5” is not all that wide. Paralleling those I beams I think would make a very stout “box” that would have minimal torsional movement. I think your beam is gonna be dancing all over the place in this application.

I realize now, the plate is the weak point.....all I can do is beef it up. Angle supports, etc.
