  • Some people say the Ender-5 is the best Creality machine in terms of print quality. The Ender-5 Pro is the upgraded version based on the Ender-5 with some new features. Today, we will talk about the features, assemble and review this machine.
    We will also do some test prints and compare them to other cartesian frame 3D printers like Creality’s Ender-3, CR-6 SE, CR-10S Pro V2 and the Sovol SV01 to see which works better.
    The retail price of the Ender 5 is around $280, we will see what the upgrades are and how much they are worth. Basically, the Ender-5 Pro has 4 major upgrades:
    1. The motherboard. The Ender 5 has a 8-bit board, while the Ender-5 Pro has a 32-bit board with silent stepper drivers. I would say that the difference between the 8-bit board and the 32-bit board with silence stepper drivers is around $20.
    2. The power supply. The Ender-5 Pro has a brand name, Mean Well 350W power supply. The difference between a Mean Well power supply and a power supply without a brand is around $20.
    3. The extruder. The Ender-5 Pro upgraded the plastic extruder to a metal one. I would say this is worth around $10.
    4. The PTFE Tube. The bowden tube has also been upgraded to a Capricorn Bowden PTFE Tube. This should be around $10.
    Besides these upgrades, the Pro version also fixed some issues that existed in the Ender-5. The 2 most significant fixes are that thermal runaway protection is now enabled, and the bed won’t drop down to the bottom anymore when you turn the power off.

    I have seen a lot of videos about 3D printing but your channel is the best, that I have seen until now. I like the way it is presented and how the video is edited. You and your brother are doing a great job. The way you explain things works very well for me.
    English is not my native language and with many other channels I have to rewind more than once to understand everything what they are saying; I didn’t have that on your channel.
    I learned a lot from this channel; thanks for the good work.

Although my original choice was the CR-6 SE, it is currently out of stock in EU (maybe due to an overhaul / upgrade Creality was preparing) so next in line was E5Pro. Nice video.
    One comment about "cartesian": Both printers are cartesian, as there are seperate motors for each x y and z and the axisses are perpendicular to each other, so x, y and z of the cartesian coordinates directly translate to motor movements. None-cartesian printers would be: CoreXY (as the movements of motors XY1 and XY2 have to be calculated from the caresian coordinates of the gcode), Delta and Hanging printers (arc operations are needed to convert cartesion gcode to motor movements) and Polar Printers (using polar coordinated gcode or have to translate cartesian coordinates in gcode to polar movement by arc operations). In strict definition of course even "cartesian" printers become non-cartesian when using ABL, because this means "bending space in z" and the very word "cartesian" only aplys to an euclidic space (but its mostly O.K. to still call them cartesian, as normaly you set fading of z-correction to 5mm).
    The question of being cartesian or not is mostly important for the calculation power a printer need (esp. deciding to use 8 or 32 bit cpu). Cartesians do well in 8 bit. Non cartesian CoreXY need a little more CPU, but 8 bit are still O.K. Delta and Hanging printers highly profit from 32 bit. On polar printers it depend if you feed the printer directly with polar-gcodd or let it translate cartesian gcode into polar movements.
    So the better term to describe the differences between Ender 5 pro and CR-6SE is to call the Ender 5 pro a "cube-cartesian" (or to explain it to beginners call it a "cartesian cube printer with z-moving bed" and the CR-6SE a "bed-shaker-cartesian" ("cartesian portal printer with y-moving bed", often also called i3-style, mendel-style or prusa-style). By the way: A Voron V2.4, a Saphire etc. would be "Core YX" (they are always cubes, so no need to express this).
    Another word also intestingly often is problematicly is the word "Extruder". By definition it starts at the entry of the feeder and ends at the nozzle - the whole unit that is responsible in extruding the filament. So "upgraded to a metal extruder" confused me at the first moment - mostly this phrase is used if you change a heatbreak. Of course your phrase is also correct and the video is clear (I just didn't look at the screen that moment). But I still prefer "upgraded to a metal feeder" as in the beginning of my 3d printing experience I ordered a wrong part due to unclear definition...
    Sorry about seeming a bit over-critical at this point, but I have seen discussiong getting totaly - to say it mildly - "confused" by people having different definitions in their mind. Your videos are very good, just a hint for future videos there the definitions might matter (I am looking hopefully forward on upcoming videos there you might do some modifications on the printer. You speak a very clear and structured english, which for me as a not native english speaker is very good to understand, so I prefer your videos even against the very good videos Angus(Makers Muse) and Michael (Teaching Tech) do. By the way, I am german. So as with all germans, remember a german "nice" is the equivalent to an american "extraordanary amazing" and reread first sentence...)

    I’ve binged watch 10 of your videos already ! You’re a talented and smart young lady !
    Such quality and cristal clear explanation is impressive and I’m not even taking into account your age !
    For a guy who’s new into this and knows little to nothing about 3D printers and who only intends to print things shared on thingiverse, would recommend Ender 3 v2 or Ender 5 pro or Ender 5 plus (provided that I don’t really intend to modify any of the stock version as Amazon doesn’t deliver in my country - Switzerland - unless you recommend one machine with a really nice to have mod to perform).
    Thanks a lot and all the best for your channel !

      Thanks for watching my videos!
      Since the Ender-3 price has dropped to $155, it's the best value printer for now. For your first printer, this is a good place to start. You can buy directly from Creality instead of Amazon to get a lower price:
      www.creality3dofficial.com/products/official-creality-ender-3-3d-printer
      Besides the original Ender-3, the $249 Sovol SV01 is also a good choice. It's very easy to assemble, it's $10 cheaper than the Ender 3 V2, it has a slightly bigger print volume, a dual Z-Axis, and a direct drive extruder.
      Here's my SV01 video:

      @@AuroraTech Thanks Aurora !
      So you know, I am now hesitating between the Ender 5 Pro which costs $425 in my country and the Sovol SV01 which costs $330. To note that the Sovol is a little bit more complicated to obtain in my country but definitely feasible.
      What is more important ? The 32 bits and silent components along with Capricorn Bowden of the Ender 5 Pro and slightly bigger PV (than the Sovol) or the direct drive extruder and dual Z axis but at the price of having a louder printer with an 8 bits board of the Solvo ?
      Eventually with both printers not being upgraded, which one do you think will i) print with more accuracy/quality and ii) print faster ?
      Many thanks for your help :)

    • @AuroraTech
      @AuroraTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this case, I would choose the Ender-5 Pro, its print quality is slightly better and the print speed(70-80mm/s) can go faster than SV01 / Ender-3 (50-60mm/s).
      You can check with another reseller and see how much they charge to ship to your country.
      www.comgrow.com/products/creality-ender-5-pro-3d-printer-silent-board-pre-installed

    • @TheUnstoppableMr
      @TheUnstoppableMr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AuroraTech Now that you have brought Sovol, I must say that they do pretty good stuff and was hesitating between the Sovol SV01 and the Creality Ender 5 Pro.
      But I saw a couple of hours ago that they recently launched a VS03 which offers a lot more PV though not something that will serve me to that extent and they stock offer what was lacking on the VS01 - silent board, new firmware, original BL Touch - it’s all I can ask for since I don’t think I would have been able to upgrade myself any of the printers.
      Therefore, I will undoubtedly order this one unless you tell me not to for some reasons I would be unaware of.
      But so far the reviews I’ve read are all praising the printer with a few minor issues highlighted but nothing that cannot be remediated (eg. Adding bars to stiff up the base/aluminium extrusions).
      Quick questions:
      I understand that the stock motherboard board (TMC2208) is a silent one however can you tell me if it’s an 8 bits or 32 bits one - ultimately is it that much of a difference between an 8 bits and 32 bits - and should it be an 8 bits silent MB, would you still recommend the printer ?
      Would you recommend ordering the optional touchscreen (irrespective of the cost) or the stock one it is preferable to stick with the stock one (perhaps we are loosing settings with the new screens as some functions are not displayed anymore) ?
      Do you know if the extruder is made out of plastic or if it’s made out of metal similarly to the Ender 5 Pro ?
      Sorry for all my questions but you’re being a good help with me ;)
      Thanks again a lot !

    • @AuroraTech
      @AuroraTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the SV03 is a pump up SV01 with BLtouch and TMC2208 silent drivers. It's still an 8-bit board but you won't notice the difference as we are normally printing at 50-60mm/s, any processor should get the job done.
      Personally, I don't prefer touch screen as the classic LCD screen is directly controlled by Marlin and we can enable many features that a touch screen doesn't support.
      According to the pictures, the extruder of SV03 is the same as SV01 which is a E3D titan clone, they are both made of plastic. Since I don't have a SV03, but I think this should also be a good choice especially if you like the large print volume.
      BTW, you can use the promo code "Aurora and her friends" to save $10 from sovol3d.com. (not an affiliate link or program that I would earn anything from your purchase, just a simple discount code for you to save $10)

      Maybe a suite of tests on how fast a printer can actually print or small upgrades to make to up the speed. Even an extra 10mms would help us creality owners. I have a stock ender 3 with a z upgrade and silent mainboard and I'm converting to direct drive with an all metal hotend. I bought a real dragonfly for my cr10 v3 but I've been thinking it would be better on my ender and get higher flow metal end for the cr10. A dual linear rail y axis conversion on the bed slinger would be a cool topic to investigate. I'm quite new to this and use my printers to make items to sell for mental health charity

    Nicely done. Your exercise on retraction is the best I’ve seen in showing the difference. It’s why I added the Micro Swiss hot end and direct drive.
    I don’t recommend leveling with the steppers disabled, instead use the move axis option in Marlin. When you adjust the bed screws you can inadvertently move the Z axis and end up with bed adhesion issues.
    Great work. Keep them coming.

    would changing the hotend to an all metal one improve the stringing situation/reduce the retraction distance, or does that not matter?

      @AuroraTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only benefit of all metal hotend is let you print at higher temperature, so you can print with more materials like nylon, carbon fiber. If you just print PLA or PETG most of the time like me, it would be the same.

    we cant decide between ender 5, ender 5 pro, or prusa Mini , we are assuming printing any 3 to 4 cm miniatures is not going to be the highest quality, but what about printing something between 6 to 9 cm (something like soldiers or dragons or terrans like from starcraft) would that size of the miniature be okay-ish quality or do we just give up and try the resin printers

    • @AuroraTech

      Actually, both Ender-5 Pro and Prusa Mini+ should able to print pretty well. I will review the Prusa Mini+ soon after my new series of Ender-5 CoreXY upgrade videos. I have a resin printer, but I am not a big fan of resin printing, just because there are too many things to do just for a simple print.

    3D printer manufacturers are playing the same game as camera manufacturers. One 'must have' feature is dropped on the next model in favour of something less desirable but something else added.. and so on, we never seem to get all good features in one model. One model has touch screen, the next doesn't, surely touch screens are the way to go? I want to replace my ASW X1 but have yet to see anything really worthy without having to do numerous upgrades. Great channel and love the no nonsense approach, keep it up & stay safe. Sub'd.

      I will change the pully wheel to linear rails and see if I can print at 150mm/s with good quality. Since I won't print anything big using this printer, the stock extruder and hot end are fine, but if I want to print with a 0.8 or 1.0 nozzle, I may also need a better extruder and hot end.

    You are an amazing young lady. Two questions out of curiosity: 1.) How old are you, and 2.) Do you edit these videos yourself?

    Sleepy. Dry. Not suggested.
    Idk who is allowing a child this young to upload videos to youtube revealing personal information, but this is ignorant and dangerous.
    ...not to mention, as dry as jen psaki is, she has a lively, animated sound compared to what u hear here.
