He sounded still amazed on the call. Heck ya Dad gets a great car and boost to business. Just having that car. People will come to see it. Sometimes ya get a deserved break in life.
Congratulations Les! Made my day hearing this conversation with an 82 year old young man and how genuine and happy he sounded. Well done SM on such great prize, can't wait to watch the video.
Steve my wife had siezure and suffered a broken neck been in hospital 12 days and you and Less had me smile and feel good inside for 1st time....thank you BOTH!!!
You know Steve, Les, is right WE APPRECIATE the "STRAIGHT SHOOTER", that you are! I've watched a ton of your videos, everytime I LEARN SOMETHING COOL! I'm 65, been a technician since 1978, built a bunch of motors, even more trannies, drag raced a boat in the 80s, and 90s! It seemed like you and Val are raising an awesome kid in Kyle!! He talks to us just like you do!!
So there I am, sitting on my mower, thinking about finishing the latest Steve Morris video, when out of nowhere, the Steve Morris van drives right in front of my house!! Wish I could have gotten a picture of it driving by, but still cool to see!
Congrats to Les... And I agree 1000% on everything he said about you, Steve. Your presentation on this channel is awesome. You come off as just a regular dude who tells it like it is. Wish you nothing but the best, man!
@@Davespackey Never was our business. It was just something that kind of struck my mind. But yes, I'm sure there's someone he can pass it down to when time comes and he sounded like he was up for taking it out🙂
There was a Air force base at blytheville till sometime in the 70s. Used to drag race there when they would open it up to races. Other times I would race at George Ray's dare devil drag strip. It opened I believe in the early 60s and still going strong
It's guys like Les the reason why we sat out the Sugar Momma giveaway. God Bless Les and we hope he has an ear to ear grin when he blasts down the track. Looking forward to seeing that video. Our goodest boi Dewey makes our day every time he makes a cameo appearance. Cheers!
Warms my heart, very cool Steve and nicely done. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy it seems and congratulations Les and would love to see a video of you at the track in the 9s
congrats on the win Les!! and the joys of engine building over coming problems, I wonder if the timing dot on the cam gear is in the wrong location, whatever the case I would remark the gear so if someone else has to take the belt off it is reassembled correctly..
That was a great video. The winner of Sugar Mom sounds most appreciative ( and deserving of this great car) .Clark is cool as always. Joe knocked it out of the park with his tech info. Many , many thanks.
Im a gm guy but always interested in any big performance engine and cant wait to see that big black hemi make some big power.. love to see all the tech work as my brain very mechanical and rarely get to see the machining and assembly tech stuff
I'm 70 and was expecting the call myself but after hearing who won I'm just as happy. But I can see something in Steves eyes when he could see that this 82-year-old still wanted to go fast. Steve did not want to part with Sugar Mama. If I would of won. I would not say a thing to Steve and after making some passes, I would trade him the car back for a SM Monster Motor. Good job Steve. I'm rocking the decals on my daily now.
I just love to see how much care you and your staff always put into making engines the right way. Amazing detail and I just love the real talk about time needed for custom builds. Definitely points out all of the things you designed in to your SMX and SML powerhouses!
That gentleman is just great. To think he was racing nearly into the 9s, in the mid 1960s, and we're lucky to get near 7s now - some sixty years later - bears contemplation. ❤from 🇬🇧
Grats Les!! That's amazeballs being able to go so fast so late in life so safely! Watch out for whichever grandkid wants you to crash the most, Man! Haha!
Re: degreeing the cam-do you ever do it with only one piston in-to make rolling it over easier-less jumpy-needles not bouncing as much-just wondering if it’s done…?
Coming from building small blocks a 100lb crank? I am used to cranks on the 40s. The whole assembly will be huge,, need 200hp more just to turn the crank
the young guy who was working on the BIG BLACK HEMI did a great job give him some more air time in the future i want to see if les can get the pedal to the metal at the track
Being off a tooth is common in big engines. In the future put cam @#1 intake lobe at .050, put crank @#1 TDC then just put belt, gears wherever is needed. Saves TONS of time.
The camshaft was mid ground or is a re grind and was ground offset to achieve the specs needed. I have a cam that has to be be installed one tooth advanced, its a stock regrind, this is why you always degree a cam.
I love this and he sounds like a total cool 82 year old. I’m so looking forward to the track video. Thanks Steve and you and your team are truly Straight Shooters! 👍
DETAILS! love it. your associate is doing great explaining the obstacles. very interesting, look forward to more of this on the channel. so many questions about that engine. the black color, how is that application done. what advantages? also it's on the deck and intake manifold mating surface, huh. I'm sure if it's there it helps. just would like to know how. I feel like that kind of deep tech talk is more of what this particular engine nerd wants. also the pushrod angles relative to the lifter bores are super funky. do you have any problems with side loading the lifter into the wall of the bore? is that why the bushings are in there? anyway just a few thoughts running through my head as I watch and would love some commentary on those pieces as you go. great looking build. might also be neat to have a segment that follows "the life of big black hemi" during dyno, instal, use etc. rock on!
This is nothing like the JC Whitney, Small block Chevy rebuild kit!! High horsepower, 1 off custom engines are VERY!! Time consuming, to build!! If you want it done right!! Super cool build!!
Les is my dad, and this is by far one of the coolest things to happen! Congrats dad!! Have fun at the track!❤️❤️
God Bless , I hope we get to See him run a 9 ! That is Awesome !

I hope Sam can come hang out !

82 years young by the sound of things, way to go Les. Have fun.
Lucky guy. Congrats to Les. Les is spot on when he describes Steve. That hemi is going to be neat to see run when it’s done.
congrats to Les. hope all goes well for him and the sugar mamma
That is awesome!!! 82 and about to make the fastest pass of his life!
Other than the first pass he made with his wife.
Hell ya brother
Congratulations Les and thanks Steve Morris for opportunity for us to win that beautiful machine

Couldn’t have had a better winner! My dad drag raced his Harley’s into his 70s!
I hope Steve takes him to the Track … Truly Great Winner!!!
Yeah, but there's a big difference between say 72 and 82. I hope this car won't end up just sitting after a year or two.

This will be one of the best videos handing "Sugar Mamma" over. Probably couldn't have went to a better person! What a great a story this will be.
I didn't know if Steve could take it there for a minute lol...Hopefully he will bring the real sugar momma along for the test!!
I was sad I didn’t win until I heard Les and now I’m so happy for him and to see him rip that beast. Thanks for sharing!
wow so pumped for les just awesome .. some great info on the hemi too 👍, good seeing clark around
What a nice gentleman. Glad he won
Love seeing ❤Dewey❤ moving from one station to the next checking up on the guys. ❤

Missed Clark, happy he is back =)
LET'S GO!!!!!!!! Never too old to race .
Awesome to hear about the winner of Sugar Mama. Glad it went to someone older that races
Great phone call Steve, congrats Les!
