      @@robwilms5730 If you say so. They played venues all over to sold out crowds. Most were just them . They were on Alice Cooper's show but Alice had fans of theirs in the audience as well. Always some asshole wanting to put them down and argue. If they weren't popular, he wouldn't have had them on. Listen to the applause at the end of their performance. Alice Cooper had several different acts on his show. There's always some in the audience trying to show their asses by disruptive actions. Security usually spots them and kicks them out.

      Unfortunately, all that crowd noise was added. The crowd didn’t cheer them, they booed and threw trash at them. Sadly

    I recently got a Sha Na Na baseball hat, and I'm rarely without it. As I always say, Sha Na Na captured the energy of the music as no other group (Including later versions of the original artists many times).

    Sorry to confess--my biggest memory about this event remains being late to join the rest of the group during performance already underway. (PAINFUL!) Both Denny Greene and I were stuck in traffic making slow progress to the Anaheim stadium, enough that we had to be escorted back stage by police once we did arrive.

      Hi Donny! Around 1981-82 you all came to the Valley Forge Music Fair in Philadelphia! I was 14 and gave my.mother no peace until those tickets were in my hand! You all made my innocent girlhood very pleasant. (I was a VERY unique young Black girl from Philly 😁😁) Thank you for all the great performances and I hope you are doing well!

    When this concert too place I was 4 years old
    And my brother was 2 years old. We didn't go to this concert but we did watch the TV show but mostly as reruns. Our parents played the music to expose us to the music of the childhoods and teen years since not all of the music of our childhood was that great much of it was nothing but noise. And with my brother have autism a lot of the modern day music of the day would make my brother scream bloody murder but the good stuff would make my brother start bopping around on his dipper covered rump/bottom. Even the noice he would make gave us the idea that he was trying to sing along with what he was hearing.

    They were booed mercilessly. I was there. The applause you hear is phony. At the end Bower said "I've got one thing to say to all you f-ing hippies out there ......Rock and Roll will never die" Cue hail of paper cups.

    • @harf59
      @harf59 ปีที่แล้ว

      The line ""I've got one thing to say to all you f-ing hippies out there Rock and Roll is here to stay" was a standard line by Screamin Scott Simon at the end of a concert to intro "Rock and Roll is here to stay. It doesn't surprise me that they could be booed with a line-up like Alice Cooper, The Tubes and Nazareth. Here's the irony of that.
      In the early 70's off their Woodstock appearance, SNN was often booked into Concert halls like The Fillmore East (and West), opening for such bands as the Grateful Dead, the Mothers of Invention, and the Kinks. One night, SNN put on a hot show, with a lot of their fans and really got the crowd going. Then came the headliner. I don't know if they booed off the stage, but the crowd wasn't liking it very much. Some left the auditorium. After that, no band wanted to go on AFTER Sha Na Na. So this college band, singing old rock & roll in a theater type of performance became a Headliner.
      Sha na na became a headliner. Bruce Springsteen actually opened for Sha Na Na.

    I can't imagine being LIVE in front of 50K people and hoping I don't make a wrong move or sing off key. I mean the vibration alone from the crowd had to be like waves of adrenaline.

    • @donnyyork2149
      @donnyyork2149 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's easier to perform for vast numbers in the audience than it is to perform for a smaller number that includes friends of yours! Adrenaline is your friend rather often, so managing to keep your mind on what's coming next is the trick. 😆

      Bowzer used to make a pot joke around 73-74. during the dance contest he’d ask Santini if his baldness is caused by pot. and their lead guitarist before Dirty Dan, the one in this video, died from heroin. other than that i think some of them occasionally smoked cigarettes (except Jocko, he seemed to be smoking more than occasionally haha)
