    Thanks so much for these videos. I just moved with my 1969 444, and she was a little cranky. I have a 444/445 manual, but schematics are a language I'm still learning, so these videos helped me understand them. I even took apart the power relay and cleaned the contacts (without the video I never would have guessed where that was located!!!) and now she works beautifully!

      Taking apart the relays and cleaning them fixes all kinds of stuff, everybody thinks they need a new relay but the actual relay is hardly ever bad, just dirty! Glad you got it up and running again!

    Awesome video Joe. You know what you are doing, that's for sure. Got a little problem. Bought a Rock-Ola 460 about a year ago. Got it cleaned up and going. Yesterday moved it from the garage to the house on an appliance carrier and now it won't pickup the record at the end of the song. Going through the relays to see what's up, but can't find anything. Per your video, I will check the relays under the turntable. We really jarred it hard going up the stairs, yikes!

      Definitely something in the relay or one of the switches on the cam. In the manual (any of them) it shows how everything works step by step you’re up to the step where the relay pulls in so it’s either loose or dirty connections or something

    How does dynamic braking work? Is this to stop gripper from over extending and jamming motor.
    My motor jams?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on where it jams, sometimes the gripper bow will jam because the pin that holds it together sticks slightly out of the piston, when the piston pulls in the pin holds it from going all the way inside the sleeve and the arm will be stuck halfway up in the air...

    Thanks for the great jukebox videos first off, do have a quick question do you know if you can switch out the moveable turn table to one that is not. So on this one you got the 3 tabs that will drop to play a record that has a single hole ( think 45 vs LP) I have a few old Phil Collins 45’s from England and they have the single hole not the big one out 45’s do. I have the rock ola 490 and my turntable is solid not with the drop pens like this one has.

    • @LyonsArcade

      I'm sure it could be swapped over but I've never done that myself... most of the parts interchange between the various models though so I would imagine the turntables would swap, I think the idler wheel and all that is the same under the turntable. Thanks for watching Jeff!

    If we wanted to replace components for circuit shortages which we see happening in the far left box, is there a good repair kit you would recommend we order?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Montana; Unfortunately nobody really makes a kit for it, what you have to do is either look in the manual for the part description (it'll say like 10uf 24v electrolytic capacitor), or look at the actual parts, then order them individually from a place like www.Newark.com ... You can still get about everything, if you run into a part like an IC chip that isn't on Newark you can usually find them on ebay. Good luck!

    Any idea what could be the problem if the readout doesn't start spinning after the write-in did its job? I Have a Rock Ola 442 that has the bow hovering over the left side where the vinyls are and I can make selections but the readout doesn't startup. I wonder if it's because it's in the middle of picking up a vinyl or because something else broken. I checked all the fuses and they are all still in tact.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're on the right track, it could be partway through it's cycle, (even though it looks like it's all the way over the basket), this means that the switches on the back of the cam (look at the shaft that runs from front to back that the gears are attached to).... those switches go on and off depending on where in the cycle that rod is. The read out can't turn without turning the basket too, so if the cam isn't all the way turned back around where it should be (even slightly off) the switch won't be pressed so the read out/basket can't turn.
      It could be too bad connections on the switches, or the 'wobble plate' on the read in /read out pin plate. When it selects a pin, it moves the 'wobble plate' inside the selector plate which makes a switch pull in on the top of the plate, that switch is in the power feed that turns on the read out.
      If you look in a manual (they're all similar) it'll show you where the cam should be at rest position and which switches it should be pushing on the cam.

      @@LyonsArcade Thanks for the super fast reply! I think I will have to take apart that gear box and clean it out like you did, because if I try and turn the motor by hand it just jams at some point and the other way around it's the same, it turns and I can see the cogwheels moving but once they hit the inner section where it's supposed to lift up the bow it stops. So I can't get the bow to lift. Love your channel btw!

    I've got a 432 and mine is stopping exactly like yours did, but only on one spot. I've tried every location, and only A1/B1 fails. It picks it up and just as it putting it down it clicks and stops. Won't work again until I scan and reset it. Once the record is back in the basket, operate starts to work again. I cleaned the wiper arm with improperly alcohol, but it still fails. My turntable is also spinning at about 41rpm unfortunately. Not sure if it is the motor, the idler wheel or all three, including the turntable working together. Any suggestions? Also can't find any cheapish replacement 28inch Fluorescent bulbs.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That speed problem is usually the motor, but you can oil the shaft and keep laying it, it'll work it's way out and start playing at the correct speed again...... I've never seen it hang on just one record, that's pretty strange... when you turn the machine off, it hangs it up?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Taryn! When you clean the contacts you're just trying to get all the dirt off of them basically, you can use anything, like a wet piece of card stock paper (a business card)... or you can even use spray contact cleaner as long as it's labeled non-conductive on the can, they sell some at Lowes and Home Depot. You spray it on and it cleans the contacts without even having to scrub it or anything. You can also check any contact with a multimeter, set it on ohms and put one probe on one side, the other on the other side of the contact and see if the resistance goes down to 0 or close to it (less than 1 ohm).... if it does your contact is conducting electricity well and will work fine.
      You can absolutely fix it, good luck!

    I've always been fascinated by the mechanics rather than the electrics in a jukebox. . I've never been able to figure out how that arm grips the record, rises & then TURNS to place the record down (& vice versa for returning it to the rack). How does it go up & then turn? Please don't say "gears & cogs" - I know it's that, but I still can't work it out.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is a motor on the bottom that starts turning spokes and wheels. As the spokes on the wheel turn around, the spokes pull the arm towards the turntable, which makes a small piston on one side slip out of the arm, once the arm has pulled far enough back it's gripping the record between the end of the bow and the piston that slipped out of the arm... the spokes on the wheel are designed in such a way that at this exact moment, one of the wheels with spokes on it hits a small piece of metal attached to the other wheel with spokes on it, and the two of them then turn together. As such they lift the arm straight up in the air, in an arc, holding the record. As it continues to turn by having the one wheel mesh with the other wheel through a set of teeth, there are two metal ears on the arm that hit a little tab that a solenoid pulls one way for the A side and another way for the B side. When the arm hits that tab in whichever position it's been put into, it twists the arm, now free of one of the wheels with teeth on it, either to the left or to the right. It's no longer mated with the wheel with teeth on it that was keeping it from moving sideways, so it turns a complete 90 degrees and has the record now approaching parallel with the turntable. As the wheels with teeth on it continue to move, it lays the record farther down towards the turntable, eventually completing it's arc when it gets to the turntable. The wheel with teeth on it then turns a little farther, and the teeth push the record arm away from the basket, allowing the piston inside to slip back within the bow and releasing the grip on the record. To return it all it does the exact opposite and the motor runs backwards from how it ran to lay it down.
