    Holy cow, the first 30 seconds or so was GOLD!! 😍🎥 I think I've watched that part 5 times now. 😂😂 Really impressed by Basecamp! Convenience drives a lot of my decisions. If I had a cinema lens setup, this would probably be what I'd go with, haha! Great video Ben!

    Nice review! If I hadn't bought the Wooden Camera Zip Box a few months ago otherwise I would seriously look into getting one of these! Great review and love the orion anamorphics you're using

    Wow!! A vlog done using Atlas Orion Anamorphic glass..!! that is a special one.. This review helped us in a big way to order Basecamp since we were wondering whether it would be a fit for Atlas Orion, even though they said 114mm.. Thank you so much Ben :)

    Not being able to use the pro mist and Vari ND is what makes me hesitant on jumping on this. You're the only one I've seen point that out so far -solid review!

    • @BenHessFilms
      @BenHessFilms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! They are releasing their own line of pro mist filters, but it doesn't look like you can stack them with the Vari ND unfortunately. This product definitely has its place in the market, meant to offer an extremely light weight solution for scenarios when you need to change exposure quickly. In situations where this isn't as important, it might be wise to invest in a piece of gear where you can stack multiple filters. I use my Tilta Matte box 50% of the time, and then this Basecamp 50% of the time, just depends on the needs of production :)

    Now that they added the 3rd stage filter, I am going to pull the trigger on this system. What are your thoughts on this system over a year later? Working with all Zeiss classic glass now, but eventually will move to cinema lenses and I think this will be a good long term investment. Great video. Thanks!

      @Epicmind 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BenHessFilms I think he means the focus of your video seems a little bit behind your eyes - as your eyes appear slightly soft or oof, while the mattebox is quite tack sharp. It's minor, but it's there, we will survive lol... good review Ben. Thx. Just unsure to invest into a brand's unique filter sizes... when the entire industry is based on a standard format.... price vs more expensive, but if you ever upgrade, change, you have NDs that are standard....

    Nice review! If I shoot both photos AND videos, which system would you recommend, if you can only pick one (either the Summit or the Basecamp) because of budget concerns? They are targeting the Summit at photographers and the Basecamp at videographers... I’m using the Fuji XT2 system btw...

    • @BenHessFilms

      Hmm, I'd personally go with the video one since I feel like you'd use the ND for videos far more than you would use and ND for photos!

  • @rogonmedia

    That intro was freaking dope. I am blown away and jealous of your anamorphic lens ;)
    I am planing of buying this mattebox soon because right now you geht the 6-9 stop ND for free with your order. After researching I have some questions about this mattebox. Would it be possible to attach a stylistic filter like a Black pro mist as a screw on filter directly to the lens and then attach the mattebox on the the lens/the filter? That would be very important for me.
    The second thing I heard it that when using the polarizer with the ND to use it as a variable ND filter you loose the polarizing effect. Is that true?
    I hope you can help me with my questions and especially with my first one because it would be a deal breaker for me. :)

      "Yes, you can have a pro mist filter on your lens and then use the front threading on the filter to attach the appropriate thread plate adapter from the base camp system." - answer straight from B&H staff, but not sure if this really answers your question though? =/

    • @rogonmedia
      @rogonmedia 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      B. Moye thanks that was really helpful and I will give this setup a try. I hope it wound effect the characteristics of the Pro Mist too much.

    Can't you use a Pro Mist filter on the lens and then use the Basecamp on top of that? I literally just ordered this and that was the only way it would be worth my while because I'd wanna use my Tiffen Pro Mist 1/8 on a lot of shots. Please let me know.

    • @BenHessFilms
      @BenHessFilms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They’re releasing pro mist style filters very soon, and there is a off brand attachment where you can put standard 4x5.65 filters on it. Just do a quick google search and you’ll find it

    hey man, great review! can you confirm it's possible to use only the VND (with no CP filter installed) and have a clean image?
    normally this is an obvious question, but I noticed on their site it does not suggest that VND can be used by itself (just ND).

    They make you pay $40 for each of their thread plates which is bullshit! It does not come with a 72mm nor a 67mm thread plate. This means you will have to pay an additional $80 for his team to work with most of your lenses (they don't make a 55mm thread plate.) I'm upset that no on mentions this nor has anyone calls them out for it. Also the thread plates are made out of cheap plastic but some how they are $40 each.
