    He came together really well in the end and was well worth the effort considering his age. Maybe the fabric could have been dyed but I don't think it would have added a great deal to a toy that's meant to have been loved and well played with. Some toys just look better not mint. Great vid and your braver then me;-)

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure the fabric would have stood up to dying. It's pretty thin and sun damaged. I like the aged look on him. Suits his cowboy ways.

    Myself and my Brother both had one of these each. The uniform as I remember wasn't much darker than your faded one as I remember. But age does cloud my memory a bit. I was about 7 or 8 when I had mine about 45 years ago.

    I remember having this lone ranger toy, but the one I had came with silver and the lone ranger in a boxed set, funny how you remember things like that from your childhood.

    I’m repairing a Lone Ranger . The elastic stretched so I have to go into the chest cavity and the upper legs as well. My Rangers trousers crotch is unraveling so I need to sew it up. This figure has been in the box for a long time and the cardboard has rubbed into his clothing, so I’m gonna try to wash them very gently. Thanks for your video now I know what I’m gonna be getting into

    since the figure is clothed, instead of gluing it back together, put a tight undershirt or tape it across the chest incase you have to crack it to repair it again.

  • @rgd963

    you have to cut it open with a razor saw, I use cy girls 1/ 6 scale hands they close size to a male hand that's 1/ 7.5 scale

    Dont know if you know this already. Another viable solution, particularly in regards to the Marx Gabriel Lone ranger figure, was simply to replace the head using a healthier method.
    The Lone Ranger figure is usually the most expensive to buy in good condition, but all MG figures from this range used exactly the same body mould. Buying a decent cheap alternative, like the Red Sleeves figure for example. Ive bought unclothed examples with good joints for less than £10. All you have to do is use a hair dryer around the next for about 30 seconds or so, and the neck will be soft enough to remove. A lot less brutal than trying to split it. Repeat on both dolls and swap heads.

    A decent Stanley knife and strong blade should work, I've worked with a carpet fitter and what you can use them for is amazing

    Also there’s seller on Ebay called Zolotronics. They sell remade Lone Ranger outfits from £18. Add in a tenner shipping and its a fairly cost effective way to get your LR looking mint again.

      What sort of things need fixing in those? They seem easy to take apart.

    • @TheNightBadger
      @TheNightBadger 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Toy Polloi Actually I'm not sure. I just know there were tons of the dolls around back in the day (Spiderman, Hulk, Batman, etc) and seeing this Lone Ranger (as well as your Steve Austin) repairs made me think of them.

      @toypolloi  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can dye the faded fabric.

  • @The1queencollector
    @The1queencollector 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    this is great, nice work, maybe use this fix on the Thundercat figures. is it worth re dying the faded clothing if possible?

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dying could work? The fabric is in fairly poor condition so could just make it worse. I recently split a motu figure as well, I'm getting better at it now.

  • @allluckyseven
    @allluckyseven 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you think you could -- or should -- try and dye the pieces of clothing so that you can bring some of that color back?
    Also, I'm really curious as to see your spare parts storage!

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the fabric maybe to old and thin to dye. Didn't want to risk ruining it as I didn't have another to test it on.
      My spare parts is just a lot of bit in boxes. Sounds more exciting than it is.

    I don't remember him having a red scarf. (That must have been the first thing I lost.) Is it just a piece of red fabric or is there something special about it? I wonder if you had considered trying a Tonto figure or if you had any suggestions for cleaning the suede-like fabric of Tonto's outfit.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The scalf is a sewn along the edge so more than just a simple piece of fabric. I may do j Tonto in future. I would have to look into cleaning suede.

    Hey Dave. I realise this video was done quite some time ago, but I have a Tanto figure and horse from when I was a kid. Unfortunately. One of his hands are broken. I was wondering if there is a way to fix just the hand without replacing the entire arm. Would be nice if it was still some what posable when it was fixed. If you have any suggestions I would greatly apreciate it. Thanks in advance, and please keep making these videos. They are fantastic.

    Also, I have a question. How does lighter fluid help with cleaning plastic? Like, what does it contain for it to work as a cleaning fluid/liquid? :o

    Glue and sonic welding - the enemies of the toy restorer. I had a Lone Ranger, and it was a lovely toy, as long as you remembered it wasn't Action Man. The joints were weak, the ankles especially, but as the figure had tight boots, it wasn't a problem. The problem was the hands. They were soft plastic, that held his pistols properly, but the harder plastic of his forearms seemed to cut away at the wrists over time, and they would eventually fall out. Both of the hands of my figure ended up being glued in place with Uhu, Bostik or similar. I swapped him for a Matchbox 'Fighting Furies' pirate, Captain Peg-leg, I seem to recall. Now THERE was a cool toy.

  • @deadbeatdynamo

    Why not just replace the hands at the wrists? A bit of careful dremeling seems preferable to all this. Amazing work, though.

    • @toypolloi
      @toypolloi  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are built in a way you can't do that and keep the movement in the hands.
