You stuck with it and got through it, which is more than I probably would have done. I've heard that half DE shavettes can be rough because the blades are so thin and sharp. I was gifted one but I've never tried it. Thanks for the enjoyable video and tell Mrs. H that her floral arrangements are top shelf!

A different Sunday shave for sure. One thing your "straight" razor shave did is to make me thankful for DE safety razors. I do admire folks who enjoy those old school shaves. That's what traditional shaving is all about. Close, comfortable shaves and enjoyment. And some colorful flower displays of course! Thank you, Mrs. H. Enjoy your "Southern" fried chicken and chips! I know you are looking forward to Wednesday's shave 😊 Me too.

Hi Paul, interesting how you used that particular Shavette, gave me a few ideas, don't know how you managed to go across the grain though!
You're right, You have to use this type of razor every week to get the hang of it, I do, for me it's 'Straight Shave Sunday' weekly. They say once you have got 100 Shaves under your belt you are competent. All the best

Grest shave Paul! I have the Dovo shavette and I will not use DE blades in it, but rather Personna Hair Shaper blades. they are longer and mimic a straight more realistically. My favourite Shavettes are my Feather Artist Club folding and Japanese style with the Feather Pro Guard blade. My goal is to shave with a shavette or straight at least once a week, usually on weekends when I have more time.
I hope that all is well. Enjoy your upcoming week. 💈

Hey Paul great shave with the shavette.
I've looked at a couple but haven't pulled the trigger.😂
    My SOTD.
Razor - Christopher Bradley Cooper with a PAA blade second use.
Soap- Wholly Cow Scentrophy ( my very first shave soap)
Brush - DS Cosmetic 30 mm Coffee G7 synthetic.
Aftershave splash - Masters of Soap Most Wanted
    Balm - Invictus.
I'm a huge fan of the old school barber scents. Can't get enough of them.
Good on you for keeping on with the shavette. I would have given up at the load blade part.
Please let Mrs H know she always does a great job with the arrangement. It brings a nice touch.
    Take care.

Part two of the double feature, nice shave Paul🪒🪒 The Dovo shavette took no prisoners but not too extreme. Thank you Mrs H for the exquisite flowers this morning, always enlightening. Top tier Sterling products, great stuff. SOTD: PAA Cube, Sterling "Spice" soap/splash/EDT(closest to Shulton there is IMO), Timeless "Scalloped" SS razor w/Lab Blue blade, RazoRock "400" aluminum brush, alum, witch hazel and AV 5in1 balm to finish...wonderful. Good go there Paul, I find that type razor awkward in use, but I don't practice much either. Great video and results to be fair, thanks. Enjoy the chicken/chips.

Hello again Paul. You did well with the shavette. I find that I have to make the lather wetter for a shavette and straight razor shave. I found that the lather is too sticky as a normal DE lather. Your face looked really smoothe and shiney after the shave. Even before the aftershave and balm. Well done. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👍

A bit of a challenge loading the blade on the Dovo shavette. Very nicely executed.

  • @georgetsaki9576

I would suggest the Japanese grip for going against the grain and of course making sure the lather has a lot of water so the blade can glide ,it has to be relatively runny not thick like yogurt .

Another great looking shave Paul, a bit of challenge today with that bare blade razor! not something I will be getting into, the DE/SE rabbit hole is deep enough and besides my wife doesn't want to see me use/collect straights but doesn't mind me collecting a "few" DE/SE's...lol👍🤠

@@PaulHFilms Have to admit the Shavette gave me a really close shave, but I ended up with half dozen nicks. Didn't bleed too bad and by the time I was finished I couldn't even notice them. Normally I stick with my safety razor because I am in a hurry and can shave in 5 minutes without butchering myself while the Shavette took me over half hour to shave. Its been over 10 years since I tried shaving with my Shavette and the only blades I could find in my stash were the full-length blades.
Spent half the day looking for my Japanese razor but could not find it. I found my straight razors, strop and sharpening stones, but no Japanese razor and not I even among my knife collection. Maybe I sold the Kamisori and don't remember because that would have been over 10 years ago also.

Very nice! I haven’t watched for quite some time but this shavette shave triggered me to have a look again :) I picked up straight razor shaving last spring and am really enjoying it. And your video actually gave me some ideas on how to attack my jawline because it’s quite a challenge getting that smooth since it grows from chin to ear for me. You did it like it was pretty normal to you so I’ll give that a try next shave. Btw, it’s good to clean the blade again when you switch side of the blade so you won’t be smearing lather on your face again with the razor ;) hope you have a nice Sunday!

What advantage if any does a straight have over a DE shave, or is it down to preference?

    • @PaulHFilms
      @PaulHFilms  ปีที่แล้ว

One advantage would be no buying blades, just honing the straight on a leather belt, but they are two different kettles of fish when it comes to shaving, even though the outcome is the same, plus yes own preference plays a big part.
