Since you're at Thriller Bark, it's safe to mention a detail that many people don't notice here. From this moment of "I want to live", Robin finally begins to accept herself as a member of the Straw Hats. From here on, note that she will never again call Luffy "captain", Zoro "swordsman", Chopper "doctor", Nami "navigator", etc. She used nicknames to try to distance herself from them because she "knew" that one day she would have to leave them. From here on, she starts to call them by their names. There is no doubt in her heart anymore. She now accepts them as her family and nothing in this world can shake that. Robin is finally free.
Adding onto this she will never questions anything regarding the crew (decisions, intentions) again and never responds to any questioning of her captain or crew's abilities. Seen some people in the future be like "Why didn't robin say anything here"- cuz she don't NEED to. hushhhhhh lol
Small but cool detail After Robin says she wants to live, it quickly goes through every crewmember face minus zoro, where we see him pulling the sword out a bit then letting it fall back. That’s a samurai practice called “kincho” and signifies making a vow that cannot be broken, so there Zoro vowed to commit to the rescue.
I agree that Robin's backstory is on a whole different level, even by One Piece standards. It's one of the saddest and most dramatic ones I've ever seen. Also, I agree that everyone has the right to learn their history, and it's very sus whenever anyone goes to these lengths to hide history. And also, I really appreciate Katy's commentary here because she takes the time to analyze and dissect the motives of the World Government and how suspicious their behavior is. She takes the time to digest all this lore and mystery, and that's awesome.
And at this point Robin solidified her spot as my favorite character/strawhat.. always glad to see people react to this part.. its just so impactful and emotional.
For me it was a filler episode I think it was the one with the girl who had the shrimp fruit but she was a giant. They were trying to save her dad with the straw hats and Robin was on a boat using binoculars to “clutch” people on their ships. She ate so bad
there's one thing that i think you might've understood incorrectly. this episode states that the ancient kingdom existed prior to the blank century and that it was probably world government's enemy and that they're probably the reason why that kingdom doesn't exist anymore
Although we dont know if the ancient kingdom was questionable in the things they were doing and if they were dangerous we only know from surface level that the world government is evil but i doubt oda will be as black and white
@@AcedOnez that is true. i just wrote what i did above since kahty seemed to think they were talking about some present kingdom so that she doesn't get confused in the future
As you said, considering the sheer amount of trauma, betrayal, and persecution that Nico Robin had to endure for her entire life, it's a testament to the strength of Robin that she didn't decide to give up on life long before now, nor did she snap and become the monster that the world accused her of being. And by fate or luck, Robin found the friends that Saul promised were out there waiting for her, ones who will never abandon her, never betray her, and never stop fighting for her. Luffy gave the order to shoot through the flag, but Ussop/Sogeking didn't hesitate for a moment, nor did any of the other Straw Hats make even a token protest. Because Nico Robin is a member of their crew, and if that means fighting the whole damn world for the sake of one person, then the whole damn world can just bring it on.
Robin's past is very important to the story in op, the whole theme of the empty century and how she is the only one currently to decipher the ponegly is fundamental. I liked the reaction, I hope you continue enjoying this adventure
@@digitaladventurer2142yeah but its 4 years later or speedwatch 200 episodes to finally see whats up. Everyone forgets except the manga theorists. Or maybe im dumb 😂
"I want to live!" "Okay, we'll take it from here." Not something Robin ever experienced or ever expected to experience. The only reason to try and fight the tears in One Piece is so that you don't have to rewind a scene that you missed because you couldn't see it. Otherwise it's a losing battle. They're gonna come.
I believe, in manga, when Prof. Clover almost mentioning The Ancient Kingdom name, One of the FIve Elder, Warcury perhaps (?), shouting over Den den mushi and ordering Spanda to shut the old man up. "The name of Ancient Kingdom ... " "SPANDA!" *BANG*
thinking back to it, his main issue with the merry situation was that he felt like they were abandoning her and was fearing they'll do the same to him So robin saying she is acting the way she does because she is fearing the same thing must have hit double for him
I think it's interesting to consider that Crocodile could well have been the first guy after her escape that didn't sell her out to the World Government, primarily because he was beyond that level and had ambitions that put him directly at odds with the world government, which also required her help to complete.
I love Robins backstory, its my favorite of the series. She was so mysterious and confusing but her backstory just makes everything crystal clear, and brings life to every moment we have already seen. And it also really helps build up the world government as villains, and furthers some of the mysteries of the world! Perfection
26:58 first of all, I love the idea of a goat being used as a paper shredder. To your question though, Kuzan said that he wasn't like the bastard Sakazuki. Plus he was close friends with Saul. He had his morals thrown into question then had to kill his friend. His friend's last goal was to get Robin off the island and he wanted to honor that. Also, the WG is the one that started all the CP9 stuff after Robin. Kuzan was just the official signature needed for them to be able to use a buster call.
A couple fun tiny details from here: The guy who ordered the evacuation ship sunk was Vice Admiral Sakazuki. Write that name down, he will come back later, and you will hate him even more. Saul was not just a Marine, he was a Vice Admiral, which requires you to be a legitimate badass to get that high. Among the pirate world of One Piece, going after or shooting down another pirate's Jolly Rodger is the gravest of insults and will cause them to want to murder you instantly. This means that Luffy asking Sogaking to shot through the WG flag was the biggest middle finger the captain could possibly think of.
Luffy understood that his words would never reach robins heart. Her doubt and insecurity of her past was stopping her from letting them in. Luffy had to “show” her that her enemies are his now. So now she doesn’t have a reason to refuse him. Omg the writing is so dam good.
Saul turning and attacking the *battleship* is a really important moment in the series, not just for the obvious character development, "This man is a real one", badass moments, but because it's a really strong reminder about the reality of giants in One Piece. This is one individual capable of scuttling an entire Navy battleship by himself, after taking fire from it. Our only prior encounters with giants have been with Dorry and Broggy on Little Garden, where they were distracted, fighting with bad equipment, and overwhlemingly friendly to our characters, and most recently with Oimo and Kashii, who are explicitly inferior to the previous two and are overhwelmed with simple numbers. These two instances might be enough to fool someone into thinking that maybe giants aren't a big deal, or that they're just another people group on the Grand Line. While this is technically true, there's a reason why everyone freaks out every time a giant shows up, and it's because they can do shit like this. Saul, unarmed, half starved from shipwreck, protecting a little girl during a Buster Call, can take out a battleship singlehanded. Keep a pin in that.
To be a Marine in OP works like this: To be able to help people, you must obey corupt superiors. You have to obey, but you try your best to be honorable and honest between the lines.
ロビンの「生ぎたい!」との叫び。「I WANT TO LIVE!!」と訳されていますが、日本語の「生ぎたい!」のほうが強い表現となっています。「I WANT TO LIVE」は日本語では「ikitai」となる。
29:18 And what’s actually crazy about this even more, Robin would be Russian in the real world and her actress is hated for being Russian in the real world, making themselves both hated for where they come from. I love the decision the live action made because of little details like that. 🥺
And that's why Robin is my number one one piece character and you're the best youtube reactor out there, with genuine reactions and deep thoughts about whatever you see, you even figured out the ugly analogy between this corrupt WG and the real world. keep it up mademoiselle, I'll be looking forward to more ❤
