I don't understand the video reviews of this product. It's almost as if Ecoflow is telling EVERYONE what to say and what not to say. After watching 100s of these reviews, there are questions NO ONE seems to ever answer. Everyone basically says and does the exact same thing in each video review. It's like watching a sci-fi movie where I've wandered into a small town where there's something weird going on
Youre not wrong. All the comments are for a product that isn't available yet. Also, it has a proprietary DC connector. My 12v system cant power it. Like one of the other comments was above, you can get a 7800btu rooftop ac for the van for the same price, and have it connected to the 12v system already in the van.
@HOPE, LLC Helping Others Progress Economically I tried using mine in my 18 wheeler one afternoon. The outside temperature was in the upper 80s. This thing, while very energy efficient, struggled to get the temperature down inside my truck. It would probably work well after the sun goes down and keep you comfortable during the night, but during the daytime heat, you can forget it.
Another better option is the Dometic RTX2000 ($2400usd). It's installed on the roof, and coupled with my 400ah battery bank, it'll run for close to 12-16 hours depending on the mode. I was recently in around 90f heat, and it cooled the van to about 70-75f with it parked in the sun. The van is dark grey which isn't the best for heat absorption, however fully insulated. It looks to be at the same price point as the EcoFlow, but it's nice to have it out of the way, and its nearly 7000BTU. Plus, the dogs love it when we leave them behind :)
Haha the dogs are probably in paradise in that! And yea it sounds nice for it to be on the roof and out of the way, that is one drawback of the system!
@@nickm8651 so far so good. I'll say it keeps the van cool after driving with the vehicle AC on - along with covering the windows etc while parked. It isn't very efficient at cooling the van down much when it's already hot though. It's an impressive unit, and probably what I expected from the reviews I had seen beforehand.
We use a portable air conditioner in our van. Lots of people say they don't work but they do if set up correctly. It helps a lot if you can close off the front and all the heat that comes in through the windshield. We have the cabin door. Nice informative video.
Also insulating the exhaust pipe as well as directing the intake to recycle the air from the cabin and cutting a whole for the exhaust possible using a roof fan as a double feature
Find an HVAC shop and have them fabricate a panel you can capture in the window frame, similar to a house free standing ac unit. With 2 pipes to accept the hoses. I bet you get better results. IMHO
4000 btus is not enough for quick hot-van recovery in wet humid weather unless you isolate the rear of van bed/seating area and cool just half the van, and even then it could fall behind in 90+ with 85-90% RH down Alabammy or Arkansauce way. 8000 would work, maybe 2 units both-on first, then switch to one after removing the moisture that holds a stubborn-944 btus per pound of water as Latent/hidden heat, then work on bringing down the ambient Sensible Heat with one unit in an isolated seating/bed area. Keep in mind all soft fabrics contain stubborn moisture that must be removed before air temp can fall to 74/76/78 zone, humans put off around 400/200 btus each. Stay in the dry West and use an evaporative swamp cooler with extra water tank and lots of solar to get free cooling...
I recently purchased a Zero Breeze for my minivan I am currently living in and absolutely love it, again it does not cool the entire area but definitely helps me in California stay cool especially in the dry hot summer weather!

Actually that will make it worse. You want the air intake coming in from the outside and you want the exhaust hose going back to the outside. Otherwise you will create a low pressure situation in your van and the air conditioner will literally pull hot air in from the outside. This is why single hose portable AC units are terrible and barely work.
Why pull outside hot air. Unless you have an airtight system for the out vent you will not create a vacuum in the Van? Yes I do get venting the hot air it withdraws but seems it would be far more effective if you cooled the cooler air in the van.
It won't create a vacuum, but the negative pressure created from exhausting the hot air from the A/C, will cause the outside air to come inside the van through any nook and cranny, as the van is no where "sealed up", or you would have a vacuum, indeed. With the two ducts going outside, you want to try and keep them away from each other, if possible. Otherwise, you could be pulling in some of the very hot exhaust duct air, which is usually much hotter than the outside air temperature. I'd love to see a comparison of the unit with just the exhaust vent duct, like a one duct system (IDK if they could just remove the intake duct? I think so?). This would cause Negative pressure in the van, with air coming through wherever it's easiest. It's possible it could work better? Even though you'll always hear that two ducts are much better than one. Outside air has to come in, through the extra duct or through the areas not sealed tight in the van (many areas), either way, outside air must come in. I'd love to see the difference using one duct!👍💯✌️
You know you can cut a cardboard around the hoses to cover the door window right? Just for testing shake. Looking forward to how this really cools a van.
Nice review! I’d really like to get one of these to supplement our rooftop air conditioner. The biggest issue seems to be the clunky and short intake/exhaust tubes. This seems like the perfect opportunity for an independent startup to create 3D printed window and door spacers with custom length tubes, custom shaped floor/wall passthrough adapters for new builds so it could be used in transit, etc. (Also, I love Kevin’s patriotic t-shirt!)

I installed a Dometic Brisk ll on my roof and every time I've turned it on with someone in the van within a half hour they make me turn it off because they're too cold!! One time we were outside of Vegas and it was 120 degrees out, the wife went shopping and I stayed in the van drinking beers and I had to turn it off too because it got to cold!! I installed an AC Soft start unit so it doesn't use a lot of power on the startup. I only paid $540 a year and a half ago. Easy install and my gas milage didn't go down. If I had to do it again I'd get the Dometic Penguin only because it has a smaller profile and it would look better on the roof.

You guys are always awsome but theres no way having the return pull from outside 85 degree air makes sense. would keep your house ac filtered return outside?. The point is to step the temp down pulling cooler air from inside dropping it further and further as it recycles. If you had say a 15 degree delta at 95 degree desert outside youd never get supply side air lower than 80 degrees. The van interior is not hermetically sealed to make a vacuum. Wont be an issue. Do the directions really say to set it up like that?
I was a little doubtful on this approach as well. I don’t really understand why the have a duct tube for the intake return but since they did we used it. I’ll try it without the intake hose on it and see how it works
Why is this a good alternative to the standard roof mounted ACs used in RVs and camper vans? The Wave isn't cheaper than a roof AC. They both consume significant amounts of power, requiring a large investment in batteries. Whether proprietary like the dedicated, single usage for the Wave, or generic, all purpose LiFePO4 for a roof AC. Furthermore, the Wave requires setup and takedown, needs storage space when not in use, can't be used while driving, and isn't at all stealth. Please tell me what I am missing with regard to the advantages of the Wave?
It’s my understanding, you can’t hook up to “or any other power source”. The DC charger is proprietary so a Jackery or Bluetti won’t work. ONLY the Ecoflow Delta. Way to cut out a massive demographic. 🙄 It’s a shame because I would have bought one if it could also be powered by my Bluetti.

Yes but not sure if it will be enough to power the compressor, maybe just to charge the battery? I think you would need an A/C plug to run it without battery
I no longer trust these reviews. This unit does not cool when the heat is high as well as the humidity. ECOFLOW are garnering favourable reviews somehow, no one is really testing these ‘bad boys’ in challenging conditions…

The hack is, run your van ac for a while until the temp inside get colder, turn off and then run the wave. Cold the van much faster and saves battery

Compared this Wave with the Mark 2. Clearly with 4000BTUs, the Wave is way more powerful than the Mark 2 which only has 2300BTUs.
One thing good to mention is that I can charge this Wave by using solar panels which other portable air conditioners cannot.

So far the best method seems to be bringing your van's temp down with it's AC and then shut it off and just let the Wave maintain it.
