Even though I like this scene, I can't help but feel like it's a waste because it's one of my favourite scenes in the books. I don't remember exactly how it was worded, but Qorin asked Jon to do what he has to do. They leave Jon to it. Jon reflects on justice and what his father would have done and decides to let her go. He then comes back and Qorin easily figures out that Jon didn't kill her and they say something along the lines of: "So you didn't kill her" "I know you asked me to do so but..." "I didn't ask you to kill her. I asked you to do what you had to do. You decided to let her go, and now I know more about you. I need to know my men to command them best. Now I know that you won't obey something that goes against your sense of justice" "And if I did kill her?" "Then she would have been dead and I would still know more about you" Of course I probably butchered it, but it's a truly fantastic scene, and making it about Jon wanting to kill her her but being physically incapable to do it kind of loses its charm (although it's the direction they wanted to take with Jon: someone who only obeys honor and does the right thing like Ned)
Great writing never survives the TV writers room sadly, they either think the audience are too stupid to understand the original writing or they have some inflated sense that they know better than the author. Another great example was the recent Shogun adaptation, lots of scenes were butchered when they could have just been done word for word.
Ughhh I really wish it was in the show. This whole series of scenes w Ygritte and Jon and Halfhand were a little confusing in the show theees alot of missing context
What is the name of this series? You producers need to start putting out a better clue then some margin letters or numbers. You do want people to buy the stuff don't you.
Qhorin Halfhand.. actually is Ser Arthur Dayne. Ned didn't kill him, he sent him to the wall under an oath of secrecy. That is why Qhorin protects Jon and mentors him. He was the best fighter North of the wall and easily bests every soldier of the nights watch
Qhorin was pretty dumb here. He should have easily recognized how attractive she was, even for a wildling, and he left the newbie virgin to deal with her, who has obviously never done this to a woman before, either. It boggles the mind. He knew how dangerous the situation was, and he just abandoned them there without making sure it was done.
@@based-ys9um Point of their comment went over your head eh? I'll break it down for you. The show at this point still followed the books, where she wasn't attractive. So OP point about Qhorin being dumb is wrong. The writers at this point weren't going deviate from the show.
@@YoctoporyThey were on horses and going towards Mance anyway, so she wouldn't reach them or pose a threat. He left Jon and said to do what he thinks is best. Then talks to him about it, to figure out what kind of man he is. Later on they are surrounded by wildlings and their horses tire out/die out. Since Qhorin knew of Jons interaction and how he could be super honorable is partly why he could come up with the desperate, last minute plan of making the wildlings believe Jon was a traitor of the crows/turn cloak, trusting Jon wouldn't ever forget his vows. It was experience and improvisation from Qhorin while getting to know his new recruit. In the show he's just stupid and trusting and gets fooled and also the plan feels weird and unnecessary.
Holy, I hadnt seen the actor for Qhorin up to this point but they cast him perfectly. A terrifying man who'd look right at home on the field of battle or on some farmland.
The Half Hand was playing the long game. In the book he knew that Jon wouldn't kill her and that Ygritte would lead the wildlings to them. That was a hell of a man.
This is the once-great HBO series Game of Thrones, from the book series by GRR Martin, "A Song of Ice and Fire." I blv it's 2nd season, but cld b wrong on that part.
They didn’t question at all why Jon would want to do it himself and then are just like okay we’ll see ya later buddy! 🚶♂️🚶I’m not gonna watch but I’ll just leave u alone with this lady ok
I dont think i noticed at the time this first aired, and I may be misremembering, but its ironic that here they talk about the Wildings killing Qorin if they got the chance, but later we see they in fact did take him prisoner, albeit only to have Jon kill him to stay alive.
Back when GOT was good, and the chemistry is real between them , obviously has they are married now , Kit's and Emilia's chemistry felt like 2 relatives at a family dinner who really dont care about each other but are faking being nice to each other
This scene has much more sense in the books. Jon has a choice - let her go or kill her. He decides not to kill her and take her as prisoner and bring to the Qhorin. What’s the point of it if he just said that they can’t spare a man to guard her and they don’t have food

Damn they really did butcher this. Doing it properly wouldn't have taken hardly any extra time.
All of this... aside from physically unable. It was his mind, honour and emotions
No man I think you did great, I’ve been reading the books lately and this seems about right
