    I agree with lots of the points in this video! Some additional cons that I think were left out:
    1. Defined career growth and timelines ultimately hurt high performers as they are forced to wait for "their turn." Having 2-3 year periods as requirements for promotion, rather than simply impact/merit, incentivizes coasting.
    2. Different pay for same levels. Almost all big4 firms (except one which does cohort) pay more for experienced hires, which hurts homegrown talent as they will be paid below market value over time. This causes high levels of attrition and turnover. Even top performers can switch firms for a sizable pay bump. MBB has standard pay scales for levels.
    3. Emphasis on utilization which incentives billing hours rather than generating impact and value. Partners are looking for long term contracts that can renew itself. Not exactly inspiring for consultants looking provide value. Also makes it hard for people to take PTO.
    These are probably cons with professional services in general, but are highlighted by big4 due to how large and bureaucratic these firms are.

    Do consultants or accountants have a better work life balance in the big 4?

  • @Charlie0311
    @Charlie0311 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hey, I'm really interested in working at a big 4 firm in London. I know it sounds stupid but I've heard that the salary for a graduate at one the big 4 firms is typically £28-30k and this doesn't sound like enough to live in central London? 👍

    • @KajolPhadnis
      @KajolPhadnis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For consulting you definitely start higher than that, in accounting / audit it's around what you mentioned I believe.
