  • In this video I talk about the day-to-day activities of a junior or graduate auditor, and generally what kind of work you would do in your first 1-3 years on the job. There's a mixed bag of advice and description of work in this video, and would be particularly useful if you're curious about the job having already got a role or want some background information for an interview - you could base a lot of questions or conversation in the interview about your potential role!

      Hey, Devamsha! I’m Alma, a student received the offer of PwC this year. I watched most of ur videos about audit in big four, and thought these are really helpful to know more about this job, and lower my anxiety before starting this career, especially this video.
      But I am in China and most of us do not use TH-cam, and some are not good at English. So I am wondering if I could translate this video into Chinese and upload it in one of our most popular video websites called bilibili? I believe it will help lots of people like me.
      I will put the original link of your video if I could get the permission. Thank you so much for all of your inspiring videos!

    What auditors do:
    1. Research an audit.
    2. Test the transactions, programs, etc for the audit.
    3. Create and update workpapers.
    4. Draft a report
    5. Management take the report, say your testing sucks and write what they want in the report.
    6. Repeat.

      do you have to be good with deprecriation and other cost accounting concepts?

    • @Wrzerq
      @Wrzerq ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@woahdereboiiii If you intend to test them properly - you need to understand these concepts well, although not necessarily as in-depth as the person preparing notes for years (whose work you are testing). There is much more higher focus on auditing skills though and these would be: professional scepticism, ability to understand accounting concepts applied by audited entities in relatively short time (each client may have their own nuances) and ability to face clients.

    Love the in-depth description of day-to-day tasks and responsibilities, especially as I am a graduate who is looking to get into auditing, so these videos are super helpful for insight and interview prep! I just have two questions: Firstly, how do you ensure/know that you have all the details necessary from the client and that it agrees with what actually happened? (e.g. In case any errors occurred at their end) Secondly, when do you work individually and when do you collaborate with others or as a team?

    • @Devamsha
      @Devamsha  3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      really glad this video was useful for you! in response to your questions, you just have to be super clear when you request things from the client. there are usually a number of procedures to check their work is free from error. however you get better at asking with the job :) and to be honest collaboration is a constant thing! you're always going to be part of a team, you might have individual areas like cash or accounts receivable, but the whole team is working together on the whole audit. when you're stuck, you can reach out and vice versa!

    I'm deep in ACCA Audit and Assurance right now and, unlike most students, I love it 😂Unlike tax which changes all the time and is super tied to one single country so you can't move around the world, yeah, screw tax.
    I can't wait to get my first auditing role, although speaking with the client does sound nerve wracking especially orally. Thanks for the insights.
    I didn't think A/R was considered a low-risk area, as it can sometimes require significant judgement (thinking of allowances for bad debts). Crap, now I have substantive procedures popping into my mind (inspect post year-end bank statements for evidence of customer payments...) lol I'm actually an audit nerd

    What I'm going to Say next is just My experience in the Auditing branch of accounting and doesn't mean it applies to everybody, but is just an insight of the posibility, and this message goes for the new applicants who want to be in Audit.
    Just emphazising on what You Say about the busy season:
    Busy season is more than just having a pile of documents to Review and have a much thighter deadline. It means to be prepared to endure for a couple of weeks getting off the job minimum at 11 p.m. cuz usually your gonna be leaving your work at 1- 3 a.m. ( at least here in México) only I had one friend who didnt slept in a day for one day. But that it means busy season so Think carefully before getting in there, Audit is not for everybody and You should have a vocation for it if You want to develop yourself in this área.
    But the positive outcome is that You Will learn a lot. And literally when I Say a Lot is A LOT

    Hi Devamsha, thank you so much for this video, it was super helpful. I have a virtual assessment centre with RSM coming up, do you think there's anything I could do to stand out? hi jess! glad you found the vid helpful. i have a blogpost coming on this soon as i have a lot to say. but for assessment centres, they will be assessing your teamworking and social skills and this is what let me down when i first applied. things like asking team members for their opinions, eye contact and contributing to a team discussion. i've heard of some zoom group assessments so if they're not doing these i'm afraid i don't have any more relevant advice, i didn't do any remotely! i'd highly recommend the instagram page: 'thegraduatediary', they have a lot of great advice!

    Hey! I recently discovered your channel so sorry if you already replied in one of your vids (hope not!). I have been really enjoying the audit topic - I work in industry in a similar role - as well as frugality vids - I'm also frugal, I dumpsterdive and love all my curb scores x-.
    * are you an internal or external auditor? I am not sure how you call the two roles in consultancies, but I can imagine there are terms for companies delegating internal audit to consultancies and external audits to companies for their accreditations. Or can you get both types of engagements?
    * in which type of dept do you work in? Financial risk? Or is it flex or? I ask because I do only regulatory/IT so I have no idea about the financial risk realm (at least not in the context of my current job). Also the other audit TH-camr I follow (bySajina) seems more regulatory oriented so I'm super curious to hear of financial risk.
    So ye some ideas - I thought to leave them here instead of IG DM bc I heard it helps the channel too hehe ciao from the Netherlands

    I have some knowledge with the technical stuff like the Excel tips you've mentioned, and that's one of the reasons why I want to take the audit, but I'm really really afraid because I don't have a good foundation in auditing, especially auditing theories (when talking about the subject). Despite that, I still want to pursue this field because I think it would really help me improve my skills, and I am thinking maybe the actual training or work would help me better understand the audit. Anyway, would you still recommend the audit to me despite all these?
