  • In this video, I install tile backer around the window. One important aspect of this part of the project is making sure the sill is sloped correctly.

    I hope you enjoyed the video. This was definitely one aspect I wanted to get correct before I moved on to waterproofing the tub surround. I would consider using a tile primer on the wood sill if thinset were used to build up the area under the backer board.

    This exactly what I was looking for. I'm in the middle of a DIY bathroom renovation. I'm glad to know my over engineering is ok.

    Great video!! I was a math teacher for 32 years. Had kids always asking me "When am I gonna need this?" Wish I had had this video to show them.

      Thanks. Lol - Yes, it's amazing how much math learned in school comes in handy around the house.

    Nice clean work... I would have applied some adhesive seal like Laticrete Hydo Ban to the edges of the cement board facing the window.

      I'm doing my best. It takes quite a bit of time to research, film and edit videos...and I still work a J-O-B. Thanks for the support. Appreciate it.👍

    Thank you for posting this video. It is definitely useful information for me, as I'm doing the same thing around the same type of bathroom window (but with Hardiebacker cement board). ... Just one safety concern: when you use the table saw, please keep your fingers further away from the blade. It only takes one unforeseen thing to occur out of 10,000 times and you could have a serious accident.

      Glad the info was useful. Thanks for your concern regarding the table saw, but I was very aware of where my hands were positioned; I believe the camera angle made it appear they were closer to the blade.

    I would like to have seen the window prior to your install. Were you working with wood framing, or did you just screw the cement board directly onto the surrounding PVC box?

      The backer material is screwed into wood framing. Earlier videos in this playlist show the wall framing and the window installation: th-cam.com/play/PL2DCEA44DBF541CF8.html

    Good video and fix BUT some real dangerous table saw use. No riving knife and your passing your hand over that blade.

    • @DIYApprentice
      @DIYApprentice  ปีที่แล้ว

      You wouldn't be the first person who has commented on the riving knife not being in place 😀 While it's not great practice, I've used the table saw in this manner for years, so I'm always very conscious of hand placement before turning on the saw; they aren't as close to the blade as they appear from the camera angle.
