I haven't worn dresses lately, but I regularly change the length of shirt and jacket patterns between mid-hip and tunic lengths. This is a good reminder to reuse tried-and-true patterns that already fit well. Every new pattern seems to need altering to fit my properly. I must have something to listen to when sewing, drawing, designing, or crocheting! I'm not sure why. I like cozy mysteries, some mysteries but not thrillers. Thrillers are stressful and who needs more stress? Love Ann Cleeves (Vera and Shetland series), Peter Grainger (DC Smith) and Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache (although some tend toward thrillers). The Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman was also great fun.
You are right. It is so easy to go back to a tried and true pattern! Especially once all the alterations are done. I also enjoy Louise Penny and Richard Osman. I am going to check out Ann Cleeves. Thank you for the recommendations.
Very cute! I haven't altered many patterns other than changing length or hemline on something. I have been on an audiobook kick lately but occasionally I will watch Netflix, PBS Masterpiece stuff or something like that. I love watching all the cheesy Christmas movies coming up here shortly. Like the Hallmark-ish movies that the streaming services do now. I normally don't like those but at Christmas time, I really enjoy them. 😂
I love a good Christmas movie and book. I loved PBS Mystery. The intro drawn by Edward Gorey was my favorite! I have a few books a re-read every year at the holidays. 🎄
I love a cozy mystery!! You should post your list… I listen to podcasts all the time but I’d like to switch to audiobooks. Since you like science podcasts (me too, girly!) you would love The Huberman Lab!
I am looking up the Huberman Lab. Thank you! I am always looking for more podcasts. I may post a list soon, I am sure I will get some great suggestions if I do.
I have to add width to the tummy hip area and don't know how many inches to add to it for ease and seam allowance. So if I measure x amount around my width tummy and hip widest area, how many inches should I add on to that measurement for seams and ease? Thank you sooo much for sharing your alterations. I am going to make this pattern B4685 as soon as I figure this out, with your helping thank you again!
Yay! The easiest way to know what to add is to start with the pattern's ease. Compare any body size on the pattern and the finish garment measurements for that same size. That's the wearing ease. So if the size 8 is a 34 body measurement for the hip and the finished garment for hip is 42 for that size the wearing ease that's an 8 inch ease. I hope this helps you find it. I'm away from home or I would look it up for you.
Beautiful 😊 you make it look so easy.
Thank you!
