On my project, I attempted to copy how the pockets are from a pair of my pants. WRONG MOVE! It got all messed up, and I put it down 3 years ago! Now finding your channel, I think I can fix ALL my issues (on THIS project) and finally get it finished! YAY!!! 👍👍
I know this comment is a year later, but you just made my day. Thank you so much for these very simple instructions!. I no longer need a patch pocket or none at all!
Thank you so much for posting this! I almost gave up after watching so many who made it far more complicated than it needs to be. This gave me confidence so I really appreciate you! I followed this and it worked perfectly, so easy! LOVE!
Agreed! I just inserted pockets to a dress I am making. I did one using Anastasia’s method, and the other using someone else’s. Anastasia is the winner! I would like to comment on one thing though: very light fabric is used in this tutorial. Mine was slightly thicker, so I had to trim and press quite a bit to reduce the bulk. After a year of “serious sewing” 🤪 I find I still struggle with this - a video on the issue of bulk would be very much appreciated! Thank you Anastasia ❤
Ja, inderdaad een top video! Figured out how to use a sewing machine for the first time yesterday and I'm ready to try a bunch of stuff, adding pockets to pants that don't have any for starters haha
Thanks a lot for this clear video! It took me a bit longer, because I inserted pockets into an already existing jacket and I had to open the lining of this jacket as well, BUT I did it! It might not be perfect, but I can wear that jacket now.
I try to understand how people do it! I tried it once but the results wasn't good! Your step is easy and the results were perfect! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I will definitely try your way you teach!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really glad my video helped you. It means a lot to me that I can share my knowledge and make a positive impact. Best of luck with your future attempts!
Thank you so much for this video! You made it clear and simple. I’ve sewn pockets twice before but I just figured it out myself, so I didn’t do it in the easiest way at all. But I’ve just sewn my first one using this method and it looks great!
I have a flannel floor length nightgown that was huge and wanted to take in without losing the pockets. This was my first attempt ever at a side seam pocket. Definitely not as nice as yours lol, but did the job. 😂
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's great that you were able to modify your nightgown and keep the pockets. Keep practicing and you'll improve with each attempt!
I followed the instructions of probably now 3-4 patterns and always made a huge mess of the pockets, not really understanding what I was doing because the instructions were so complicated. After watching this video I realized how simple it actually is. Thank you so much!!!
I used this tutorial as a basis for making my pockets but the one change I did was to make the top part of the pocket to be high enough to get to the waistline because when skirts that are cut in panels tend to sag with the weight of the objects inside it so I make my pockets big enough to fit a dog but the top part is at the waistband so that the whole thing is supported and I can fit all sorts of things inside.
Thank you for these clear and exact instructions, but it’s harder on an already seamed garment. Do I deconstruct the whole side seam? I have been trying to just insert it injustice a partial opening and find it hard to sew.😮
Ty so much 4 yur consistency... I hv dah book but cant really innerstand it... So i really appreciLove yur vids... Question.. How do yu know wen to add or not add facing to the top of a bodice?
I want mine to attach to the waistband so the weight is evenly distributed. I’d l love to see you do that one- because there’s the issue of finagling the opening size etc. I’m adding it to my circle skirt
Love this video. Could the pocket be under stitched (instead of edge stitched) to keep the pocket on the inside of the garment? Just wondering if edge stitching and under stitching are the same thing and achieve the same results. Lastly, inseam pockets should always be pressed toward the front, is that correct?
Edge stitch is part of the understitch. Understitch is what we did cause we stitched down the seam allowance with the edge stitch. Yes pockets go to the front. Woohoo for pockets!

I tried doing a side seam pocket the other day. I had to seam reap at one point as i had turned one the wrong way. I've seen dressmakers mess the side pockets and the garmenr comes out lookinh frumpy. Now i know to cut the pocket in the shape of half an heart, iron and sew a 2nd seam after installing the pockets to keep the pocket down.
Thank you! Clear instructions gave me 2 side seam pockets on the first attempt. Every dress from now on gonna have some pockets!
Thank God! I love how to the point you are and no unnecessary nonsense!

Currently sewing my first garment, and this is amazing. Not quite as frightened as I was about pockets
Thank you, thank you, thank you. You made it “ sew” easy.
PS. What make and model is your sewing machine?
I use the viking Epic 1, 2 and 3.
Great tutorial! How can I neatly serge the pockets together so that the pocket has more integrity for wear and tear?
You can serge them together after you sew them into the side seam.
This is beautiful easy to learn thank you
This is SO helpful! ❤
I'm glad you found it helpful! Sewing pockets can really elevate any garment.
TQ for simple ,easy to follow instructions

How did you get that big pocket can you measure your hand to make a pocket what is the best thing to do I don't have a pattern
You can for sure measure your hand and then make a pocket that fits your hand. It doesn't have to be any special shape. It could even be a rectangle.
Thanks
