From a big city by UK standards Manchester total met pop about 3 million. About 25 miles across, so pretty big but when you compare all the Towns, cities, borough's and neighborhoods that make up a place like L.A. there's no comparison. London is pretty big but this is 2/3 times the size. Awesome place.
