That area was nice, but as we got into the Ventura area, it was ROUGH. Tents and very aggressive panhandlers / idiots trying to sell stuff like CD’s. I was there 1 year ago today looking for Christmas gifts. It was dirty and there was homeless around every corner. They must be cleaning for the Olympics. I hope they can keep it that way.
@peterwelby No, I'm an informed native Angeleno who cares about his city and has seen the ups and downs of the city of angels over the last 50 years. Of course, the programs are working. And there would be a lot fewer people shopping and enjoying the beach overall. Several of these programs were only implemented over the last year. For example, the LA Metro TAP to exit program was only started at the Santa Monica E line end of line station a couple of months ago after an initial pilot launch at the B subway line EOL station. It was very successful in catching fare evaders and mitigating problematic people since the vast majority of those troubled people don't pay to use the LA Metro. Good video! Great to see Santo Monica holding up after several tough years. I last visited the pier area over 25 years ago. It was clean and safe and full of families, just like you showed. The Third Street Promenade has seen better days. In the late 90s that area was thriving and bustling with activity day and night. There were lots of stores, restaurants, and clubs. There were hardly any homeless people in sight, although I'm sure it was a problem.
Nice to see someone who's out with the purpose of having a positive perspective on the greater LA area ...instead of all the bs of people putting LA down and trying to scare people ...yes LA has been impacted by covid...but instead of people being scared to go to LA and do business...LA needs business people and tourists coming to the city to rebuild the environment and get to back to what LA is known for...I've noticed Hollywood is cleaner than it was 6months ago...people need to come together and be positive....support local businesses and support new business so they can survive
I saw a few great concerts, like Guns and Roses opening up for Ted Nugent at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, a small intimate concert venue that used to showcase huge rock bands. We would go to the bowling alley bar across the street from the Civic for cheap alcohol drinks before the shows would start. Sadly, both venues are now out of business, boarded up, and fenced off.
You should have your own News Network on business & store report. You show the Truth with no personal persuasion, just news. Excellent work, California needs an entirely new government from its governor & judicial system.
Get Gavin, get Bass, and get the blue crew out of California so we can save the state. You get what you vote for if you continue to vote blue. Plain and simple.
@@MoneyhardawayThat's ridiculous. The current administration is the one doing the work right now. Things have improved because of the Biden administration.
@@mrxman581 Are you sure about that? Until someone can claim that a city like San Francisco, as one example, is ruined because it's too conservative or too rightwing, then the idea of moral-political relativism or equivalency remains hollow.
Honestly Mayor Bass is turning slowly into the best mayor LA has had in long time. Since 6 months ago the homles has been been disappearing, she forced the cuty to house 3800 honmless and cleaning encampments, no longer is theur right to live on the streets, also the law letting robbers to steal stores as long is less than 1000$ is finally over, it became a federal crime again 3 weeks ago. Everywhere looks cleaner.
Great video and glad to see that Santa Monica is still in good shape. Store closures unfortunately are a global phenomenon caused by internet e-commerce taking over more and more sales business. Unless people stop buying more and more via the Internet, this will not change back I’m afraid.
California will always have the most homeless. They want to live somewhere the weather isn’t going to kill them. (it’s an instinctual self-preservation thing) And by the way; there is rent control!
Places like Santa Monica make you miss home, then watching my videos showing the current state of DTLA and Hollywood make you glad you left. It’s a conundrum!
Don't bother going back. Was there this year and it is now a suburb of New Delhi, India. They have taken over most of the city, most having some connection to the university, medical or tech sectors, and many restaurants, cheap stores. Very dirty now. Forget the 1940s-90s All-America Pasadena of yesteryear. Just another place among thousands that have been destroyed. Keep your memories and don't go back. It is that bad.
I live in England, the downfall is global. Thanks for the info though, always interes5to see what's going on elsewhere. Subscribed, keep up the good work.
The downfall of the West. The West was targeted for destruction. I am old enough to have seen the utter wasteland many parts of the West have become. Yes, including the UK, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Canada, Australia, NZ. Been to all of them the past 10 years and lived in Europe in the 60s and 80s. Utter 180 degree tornado swept through. As a non-Europe N.American visitor, I spoke with many Europeans who feel foreign in their own country of birth, their family line tracing back 500 years! It's been an invasion, orchestrated. Go to Berlin. You'll be shocked.
I live in Florida...rent is sky high. This month going to be late with rent havent been late in rent in years. It went up by $300 in August so its very very hard...scary times. Your young its good you are getting the word out..stay informed
New viewer from Australia cheers mate, is that Irish bar still in Santa Monica about a half block in from the coast? Also there was a dive bar called the Corner bar a few blocks in we started and finished a road trip through the US in Santa Monica and loved it in 2013 good times
Although this is a good look at Santa Monica and the nightmare it's become, it's being presented here as if it's new news, or some kind of recent development. It's BEEN really bad for a long time.
How can LA exist like this? On one hand rampant homelessness but at the same time sky high rent/mortgages? Why live there when you pay to have a beautiful expensive house, but just outside of your gates it's madmax
The original apostles practiced communism, dude. And the Dems are no more commie than Trump. It's all about power for the oligarchy, a corporate state where we the people are a means to an end. God? Get real.
I like your videos it's sad to see cali become like it has thank for showing us it's been 20 yrs since I've been out there but I thought it was beautiful back then when I visited from Pennsylvania .
I think you should talk to people that traveled there pre covid and been back since. When you go down there now something is off just in the air. It's like filler people off of a video game. Just a few people perfectly spaced apart with no emotions. Very stagnant feeling.
YES!! That example of filler people off a video game explains it so perfectly! People you bump into they say “hey watch out” and go on walking to nowhere 😂 GTA vibes for sure. There’s a lot of people in the comments speaking on their experiences from years ago to now but I will start interviewing people as soon as I get more comfortable with this whole TH-cam thing 👍
@@Moneyhardaway Ah, weekday afternoon makes sense. Cool, it really does look beautiful right now. Sad about so many of the shops in the Promenade being closed. Someone in the comments mentioned the damages caused by the BLM marches, so that explains a lot more that I wasn't immediately aware of. I'm a So Cal lifer. Sold my great pad in Northeast LA and reluctantly left for the midwest in '19. I'll be visiting in a couple of weeks, so I'm happy to have found your channel and this video and see some good news back home for a change!
I was visiting SM in August and I was noticing how clean it was myself. The old mall looks to be the same as it was in 1979 when I was a kid. Looks like it went full circle back to vacancies minus Criterion 49 cent movie theater 😢.
Dude! I’m so sorry to point this out but you basically just completely contradicted yourself. You basically just supported the fact that nobody wants to start a business there because they will be robbed. You are supporting the fact that we have no laws to protect business owners from crime. That is why all of LA and everything else has gone straight down the tubes. You basically just explain why a Santa Monica is crap and why nobody wants to go there anymore! I’m so sorry and I do appreciate your hopefulness and your positive attitude. But dude, you just proved a point.
Its such a Shame to see Santa Monica so depressed, because of all of the Issues, going on such as Crime, & homelessness something needs to be done to save Santa Monica From Sinking further the Crime & Homelessness Quick Sand,....before its too late...
Thanks for your report, I was born is SM. The 60s and 70s were probably the best. Pacific Ocean Park closed in '67, early 60s were classic. The homeless problem started in 1984, it's a 40 year problem, no problem before that. The chain stores forced out the local mom and pop shops on the mall, the rents should go down now with al the vacancies. Might start with some short term leases during the Olympics maybe?
I'd bet if the leasing rates came down in the promenade it would repopulate a whole lot sooner, but I'm sure right now they are as astrological (IE apple) as they used to be, so hold the line people, wait for the leasing rates to come down and be reasonable rates 🤔
i used to love walking in this city all the areas because the weather was always consistently good unlike the East coast.. the decline in quality of life is unreal.. like we just go home after work and we just don't have that joy to hang out. Everything is ugly and trashed now.

I just called Louis Vouitton because I love L.A. Literally, my lifeline is when I can come and begin building my empire. I am ITB. Everyone wants to be IT in L.A. and the Hills of Beverly. That's my name. Back to the point. I spoke to Starler of the Louis Vuitton corporate store, and she said their location is still open, especially in the new years, and they are happy to welcome me into the store when I get there. Back in Covid. I spoke to Monica, and she said the same thing. She did say one shop moved in Beverly Hills. Yet the Rodea Drive store is still open LV. So, no disrespect. I'm in the Hills of WV, not Beverly yet fighting for my life here from illness. Super star all stank all over me. Yet, what are you talking about. I called Gucci. They are open. Operating normal business hours. I did not call a few of the other businesses yet. So why are you saying they are closed?
Gucci is open in my video and so is LV. I mentioned in the video that I recorded this on a Sunday evening. Some shops shown were closed for the day, and others shown were closed permanently.
@Moneyhardaway OH. My bad. I apologize. I didn't feel like you were lying either by the way. Why would you? Clout? I don't think so. I felt genuine sincerity coming off you. I felt your love for L.A. your city you lived in 30 something years as a business owner too. Anyone can see internet and social media's killed movies and the music industry, but hopefully never L.A. I love it so much. Can't believe the hoods and getting gentrified. That only generally hurts locals. Thanks for responding. I'm digging your vibe. No homo either. Only love bros dearly not queerly. Lol. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Did that some years ago and it felt like I had landed in Shanghai, Communist China. No thanks. Most of Orange County is like living in Asia. Most of the store signs aren't even written in English. SoCal is a demographic pit, nothing California USA about it anymore.
Didnt cali just pass that law to once again make smaller crimes more punishable? I know Newsom said he would fight it though, but the voters voted yes on it. Its sad to see what's happening, I was born in amaheim, lived in garden grove, Mo Val, then the family moved up north to Sacramento area. I left 20 years ago but the one thing i thought was crazy visiting was seeing all the places i went to as a kid unrecognizable now, to the point where I'm like "wouldnt let my kids play there"
The problem with Santa Monica is the police. I worked in Sant monica for many years and SAPD pulled me over every week. I would come from my home here in the valley and as soon as I would hit Pico they would be on me. One morning a cop pulled his gun on me. I called in to complain and they said they would pull me over as many times as they wanted to because they have probable cause which means I'm right because I say so. On the other hand some people can do whatever the hell they want. I have no sympathy for Santa Monica.

Wow that sounds awesome! I wish I would have seen them on my trip, that’s unfortunate that they’re closed down
You should have your own News Network on business & store report. You show the Truth with no personal persuasion, just news. Excellent work, California needs an entirely new government from its governor & judicial system.
Thank you so much Melissa! Your feedback is greatly appreciated! I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos!
I'm really happy to see this, this was my spot as a kid. I haven't been there in years. Thank you for this video.
your content is amazing!! love your videos so much!!
Looking forward to more content from you brother, subscribed!
Thank you for subscribing brother! More videos coming soon!
Born and raised in Santa Monica wish it changes cuz I wanna move back home
Let’s hope it’s soon!
Haven't been out there in years but yes, it was crowded and nostalgic being there when its dark and lit up. Thanks for doing this video
Get Gavin, get Bass, and get the blue crew out of California so we can save the state. You get what you vote for if you continue to vote blue. Plain and simple.
Seems like things are changing since the election!
Santa Monica is one of the most progressive cities in the LA area.
Project 2025 banning books and attacking public education has been going on in the Midwest now for about 2 years.
She is only doing it because the Olympics is on its way. After the Olympics it will be homeless business as usual.
The Red Wave 🌊 is cleaning things up
Keep coping.
Great video and glad to see that Santa Monica is still in good shape. Store closures unfortunately are a global phenomenon caused by internet e-commerce taking over more and more sales business. Unless people stop buying more and more via the Internet, this will not change back I’m afraid.
The homeless population is taking over. It's sad. No rent control. Feels like a recession. 😑
I’ve been saying this for a long time! It feels like we’ve been in a recession for a while but no one wants to announce or admit it.
@@MoneyhardawayBecause it's not true. Feelings aren't facts.
@@mrxman581Do you work for Newson? LA is broke. Even the LA Times acknowledges this.
California will always have the most homeless.
They want to live somewhere the weather isn’t going to kill them.
(it’s an instinctual self-preservation thing)
And by the way; there is rent control!
@@mrxman581they can be tho
Close to a million people leave Cali per year. Wonder why?
A million 😂😂😂. How many move here?
And they bring with them their blue votes 😡
According to US census 2024
California population is increasing😂🤡👍
Living in Florida now but really miss Pasadena where I’m from
Places like Santa Monica make you miss home, then watching my videos showing the current state of DTLA and Hollywood make you glad you left. It’s a conundrum!
Pasadena is my hometown. I live in Los Angeles now. L.A. has gone down DRASTICALLY. But we still have the best climate.
Nice video and scenery of that part of the LA metropolitan area Thanks for sharing this cool video.. Tony J. from Indiana 🙌🏼👍👏🏼🤗📸
I appreciate it Tony! Thanks for watching bro!
Just wanted to broadcast it for my subscribers. I am a new channel after all. Thanks for watching!
How can LA exist like this? On one hand rampant homelessness but at the same time sky high rent/mortgages? Why live there when you pay to have a beautiful expensive house, but just outside of your gates it's madmax
A lot of the houses aren’t even “beautiful“, just expensive 🤦🏽♂️
@Moneyhardaway yeap 💯 true
Dude the only reason S.M.IS CLEAN BECAUSE OF OLYMPICS THEY DONT GIVE A SH.T ABOUT THE TAXPAYERS IT CHEAP INPRESSION .
Yup, I totally agree with you.
The fall of Los Angeles is so sad 😢
😭
The communist democrats lost - tough love now from hard core GOD LOVERS
We’ll see what’s to come!
The original apostles practiced communism, dude. And the Dems are no more commie than Trump. It's all about power for the oligarchy, a corporate state where we the people are a means to an end. God? Get real.
*14:28** I ended my 2019 LA trip in Santa Monica. I walked from Pacific Palisades to Santa Monica, Venice canals... It was wonderful.*
I was at 3rd street promenade today 12/1. The biggest difference I noticed was the foot traffic. Retail has been affected by COVID nationwide.
I filmed this in the middle of the week last week. I was curious what it would look like this Black Friday weekend!
I like your videos it's sad to see cali become like it has thank for showing us it's been 20 yrs since I've been out there but I thought it was beautiful back then when I visited from Pennsylvania .
Santa Monica definitely shows me signs of hope for the rest of Los Angeles. Let’s hope it gets better before it gets worse! Thank you for watching DJ!
Prop 36! Read up we're fed up and voted for steeper penalties, give it time.
LA has turned into the walking dead. I’m so sad.
I pray it gets better. Blessings everyone ❤
Great job Money! Just curious, on what day and time were you there making this vid, was it on a weekend afternoon?
Thank you Wurm! No, it was a weekday afternoon
I was there in September and was saddened by what I saw. The homeless have destroyed the area too.
Its been my dream to go to Santa Monica. Especially the pier.
Go! The pier was great!
Great honest reveiw....wont be coming over anytime soon...
Californian’s have to vote RED, then things will change. NYC, CT, NJ needs to do the same.
I was visiting SM in August and I was noticing how clean it was myself. The old mall looks to be the same as it was in 1979 when I was a kid. Looks like it went full circle back to vacancies minus Criterion 49 cent movie theater 😢.
Great video!
Thanks!
I lived in Santa Monica in the 80s. ❤
Thank your democrats cali!
Bro what camera is that it’s nice make me wanna come back home
iPhone 14 Pro 👍
YA THANKS BRO FOR THIS VIDEO 👍 BEEN WANTING TO GO CHECK SANTA MONICA OUT AGAIN,,,,,IM GLAD IT LOOKING LIKE THE ORIGINAL SANTA MONICA 🙏
No problem bro thanks for watching!
Greetings from uganda.great video
Hello Janat! Thank you very much for watching all the way from Uganda! 🇺🇬
You’re late to the party. We already know how it is. The whole country does. The election made that clear.
Thanks to Pete Wilson. He got the Homeless ball rolling in Cali.
What about Santa Monica place?.. u know..that little mall addendum to the south
It's 70 percent vacant.
Thank you ❤
Thank you for watching! More videos coming soon!
No more of a 2010 and up problem there used to be hardly any homeless in California very few now it’s very normalized.
I lived in SM in 2008. It was a cute fun exciting beach town. How did this happen? 😢
It’s a long story 😮💨
God bless you and your wife business keep the faith 2025 will be a better year for everyone
Thank you Ed! Hoping for the best! Thank you for watching and God bless!
@Moneyhardaway you're well come
IT HAS BEEN LIKE THAT IN THE BAY AREA..THEY LET THEM GO..JAILS ARE OVERCROWDED.. I THINK IT IS A FORTY DOLLAR TICKET😮....SO WE HAVE ALL EMPTY PLACES TO😮
Santa Monica is better now because Trump won
Thanks to Trump
I'm born and raised and it's not what it used too be ! I'm ready too leave after my son graduates from high school
If things don’t get better I’ll just be waiting for my daughter to finish middle school
@Moneyhardaway Cali is not Cali anymore!! It's not pal trees and Beverly hills 90210 ! It's terrible now 😭
I just called Louis Vouitton because I love L.A.
How is San Diego doing. I miss living there.
San Diego video coming soon!
Come to Fashion Island in Newport Beach. Every store is open and thriving. Newport Beach is much cleaner and no hoards of homeless
There’s a ton of homeless in huntington beach on the strip . It’s so nasty there . I agree Newport is much nicer 😊
I hear OC is a huge difference from LA right now!
It’s also nice in Laguna Beach when I was visiting California and they have some nice shopping spots.
Did that some years ago and it felt like I had landed in Shanghai, Communist China. No thanks. Most of Orange County is like living in Asia. Most of the store signs aren't even written in English. SoCal is a demographic pit, nothing California USA about it anymore.
My Best friend 2 rooms 2 baths with a balcony huge … 1200 hundred a month rent..Rent control live there since 1996…
Damn bro. So sorry to see this.
I left 20 years ago but the one thing i thought was crazy visiting was seeing all the places i went to as a kid unrecognizable now, to the point where I'm like "wouldnt let my kids play there"
Did you read California Burning by Katherine Blunt?
Talk about the new businesses that have opened on the Third St. Promenade, and Barnes and Nobel actually re-opened.
Do Westwood and UCLA please. I lived there in 2006-2007.
Will do!
I used to work out there when it was nice.
I was there 3 weeks ago and i loved it.
I use to skate 10 miles a day rent was 320 a month for 2 bedroom that was 4 decades ago beach was nice back then
The problem with Santa Monica is the police.
Everybody’s at home, it Thanksgiving!
The last time I went to Santa Monica 15 yrs
It's too expensive there
A burger cost you 40 dollars 💸
Is true i haven’t gone to SM cuz its like skidrow nextvto the beach n games… promenade is dead
The vibe is hard to explain it’s just weird bro!
