Ever since the rumor started about a black Superman I thought about him playing as val-zod of Earth 2 it would be a perfect role and it'd be a perfect way to merge a little bit of there out stretch continuity into DCU
I'm sorry but as a black person I have to disagree with Michael B Jordan being the black Superman or being a black Superman to be correct I was afraid if he was to play maybe a character by Mister terrific or maybe static shock or somewhere around that level

Though it will need a set up to introduce him or a TV series to give them more wiggle room to dive into his origins. Maybe introduce him in a DC TV crossover event and go from there.
People are outraged that Henry Cavill did not get a 2nd signature movie. We got the"man of steel" in 2013, eight years ago. I repeat 1 movie. We deserve a trilogy. Cavill said in 2020 he wanted to be in another superman movie. Most people are okay with a multiverse superman, but put some respect on Henry Cavill's name.

Because when it comes to things that aren't your original creation I prefer to stay close to source material. So if the source material they are using is Clark kent then Michael b. Jordan wouldn't make sense. And I would be less in an angry mob and more in a group of people confused and irritated at them changing unnecessary details that make things deviate too far away from source material.... the majority of batman v superman. Sometimes the changes aren't necessary or make it a bad end product where the source material was great.

There's nothing wrong with black heroes. Characters like Black Lightning are cool. But black actors in a white role don't really turn out right. If Michael B. Jordan could play Val-Zod, that would be fine. But it's impossible to take a black guy playing Kal-El seriously. It would be like if a woman played Batman (not Batgirl or Batwoman, but Bruce Wayne).

I like it when its done organically. I would argue that female Thor was done in a good way, despite how many people may complain about it. But what would be better is creating new heroes, going away from the stereotypes. As a Latino, im sick of seeing gangbangers, or the undead type of thing along side Nacho Libre. Robbi reyes is a good start but id like to see something more original or expand on existing characters like Robbie as a ghost rider but do something to set him apart from the rest. So he doesnt ultimately become an "echo fighter" type of character.

If they do do a black superman, they would have to explain the idea of alternate universes, it’ll just confuse the average viewer who only knows of the “normal” superman. It would’ve been better to have them start with a black one, but Val Zod sounds like an interesting concept to have in the DCEU
this is a false concept though, the average veiwer knows the origin of the first superman, doing an alt universe and just mentioning that in the marketing is enough. Same with the new spiderman game, people don't need a rehash or backstory for all the plot lines that happened up till when the game starts just little tid bits.

Came here while doing research about the possibility of Michael B Jordan being Superman. I’m a very casual superhero person and had no idea there were ever multiple Supermen. Or even that there were black supermen! Thanks for the info!

I’m fine with having characters of different diversity as long as they don’t take pre-existing characters and change them instead of coming up with their own creative character. Great examples of this is Jon Stewart (Green Lantern), Miles Morales (Spider-Man), and the new Ms. Marvel. All original characters that aren’t just defined by their race, gender, or sexuality.
Here's the thing, there is no they....and there was no one taking anything. This is the B.S. that you have created in your head. Superman was never human or American or from Kansas, I'm pretty sure kryptonians didn't use color to reference themselves. KAL-EL is an alien form another planet and all these comic book characters are owned by the same company, they can do anything they want with their characters and yet they have not once ever changed a main characters race from white to black or vise versa. Movies are not the source material for anything and have ALWAYS been altered from the source material at the discretion of the writers. The fact that people keep repeating a rumor of something that has never existed or happened is ridiculous. Pushing real world issue onto comic books characters is, well insane. Some people will always draw colorlines in everything just to find something to be upset about, even if the thing that upsets them never happened.
Static Shock would be sick as a movie. I think they would do well if they reiterated the old cartoon from back in the day as live action. It would be relatable for teenagers to watch Vergil balance being a hero and a high school student and to old heads that remember watching it

Calvin Ellis Superman is one of my all time favorite characters. I'd love to see him on the big screen but Michael B. Jordan isn't a good fit for Calvin or Val-Zod to my opinion. But it's still an interesting concept.
Look, it's a damn comic book character. Each and every one has a huge list of various verisons of themselves. These are heroes and tells to inspire the young and the old alike to do better! If it's a problem that their skintone doesn't match what you're used to then you need to read up and get with the times. Stories change and so do people, just enjoi the message that the comic is trying to get across.

Knowing how Hollywood likes to be "Original" with characters that already have established backgrounds for years to only change it up for the movie. They'll probably change this character/origins completely to fit thier/a narrative and add in things that dont make sense. Like refer to him as African when he's Kryptonian.
That's was my thought. I could see Michael B Jordan as Val Zod. I don't see him as Clark Kent. Therein lies my only issue. I felt the same way when people were upset that Iron Fist was being played by a white guy and many people wanted an Asian actor to play Iron Fist. I would not take issue with an Asian Iron Fist. I would take issue with an Asian Danny Rand. I love the African American/Puerto Rican Spider Man. Miles Morales is a great character, and an Amazing Spider Man. That said, an African American/Puerto Rican Peter Parker? I would have issues with that. This is the only place I have issues. A middle-eastern female Captain America? Depending on the story I could definitely get behind that. A middle-eastern female Steve Rogers? Nope. A mexican Black Panther? I could see it. A mexican T'challa? Nope. I'm trying to make this as clear as possible so there is no misunderstanding. The Mantle of a superhero can be passed on to peoples of all races, genders, nationalities, sexual orientations, religions, etc. (some exceptions may apply), but the characters? Clark Kent knows what it is to be an Alien, a Farm Boy, a Big City Reporter, and a Hero. He knows how it feels to have other alien races look down on him and treat him like less, but he is not a character who has been the victim of systemic racism from other members of the human race. Sure there has been the occasional story where people of other nationalities have thought less of superman because he was white, but that's not a part of that character. Val Zod? That could be a part of his character. Something that would be different from Clark Kent's history, and something that could make him a better Superman. I don't know. I've lost my train of thought in this rant somewhere so I'll get off here.
There's already a pretty good black superman with rich backstory. His name is, "Icon" from the Milestone comics, which DC bought and absorb into their universe, a while ago. Just use that, would serve a better superman movie and tv series without rehashing, the old superman origins again. 😁

There's nothing wrong with black heroes. Characters like Black Lightning are cool. But black actors in a white role don't really turn out right. If Michael B. Jordan could play Val-Zod, that would be fine. But it's impossible to take a black guy playing Kal-El seriously. It would be like if a woman played Batman (not Batgirl or Batwoman, but Bruce Wayne).

I like it when its done organically. I would argue that female Thor was done in a good way, despite how many people may complain about it. But what would be better is creating new heroes, going away from the stereotypes. As a Latino, im sick of seeing gangbangers, or the undead type of thing along side Nacho Libre. Robbi reyes is a good start but id like to see something more original or expand on existing characters like Robbie as a ghost rider but do something to set him apart from the rest. So he doesnt ultimately become an "echo fighter" type of character.

If they do do a black superman, they would have to explain the idea of alternate universes, it’ll just confuse the average viewer who only knows of the “normal” superman. It would’ve been better to have them start with a black one, but Val Zod sounds like an interesting concept to have in the DCEU

this is a false concept though, the average veiwer knows the origin of the first superman, doing an alt universe and just mentioning that in the marketing is enough. Same with the new spiderman game, people don't need a rehash or backstory for all the plot lines that happened up till when the game starts just little tid bits.

I’m fine with having characters of different diversity as long as they don’t take pre-existing characters and change them instead of coming up with their own creative character. Great examples of this is Jon Stewart (Green Lantern), Miles Morales (Spider-Man), and the new Ms. Marvel. All original characters that aren’t just defined by their race, gender, or sexuality.
Here's the thing, there is no they....and there was no one taking anything. This is the B.S. that you have created in your head. Superman was never human or American or from Kansas, I'm pretty sure kryptonians didn't use color to reference themselves. KAL-EL is an alien form another planet and all these comic book characters are owned by the same company, they can do anything they want with their characters and yet they have not once ever changed a main characters race from white to black or vise versa. Movies are not the source material for anything and have ALWAYS been altered from the source material at the discretion of the writers. The fact that people keep repeating a rumor of something that has never existed or happened is ridiculous. Pushing real world issue onto comic books characters is, well insane. Some people will always draw colorlines in everything just to find something to be upset about, even if the thing that upsets them never happened.
Ugh I am sick of superman and most of the A-list superheroes. Bring in some of the B and C list heroes like Icon or Dr. Midnight.

Calvin Ellis Superman is one of my all time favorite characters. I'd love to see him on the big screen but Michael B. Jordan isn't a good fit for Calvin or Val-Zod to my opinion. But it's still an interesting concept.
Look, it's a damn comic book character. Each and every one has a huge list of various verisons of themselves. These are heroes and tells to inspire the young and the old alike to do better! If it's a problem that their skintone doesn't match what you're used to then you need to read up and get with the times. Stories change and so do people, just enjoi the message that the comic is trying to get across.

Comics are subject to constant adaptations. No one actor plays the part forever - not if it is successful anyway. Black or Asian, what's the difference? The main point is a good story.

That's was my thought. I could see Michael B Jordan as Val Zod. I don't see him as Clark Kent.
Therein lies my only issue. I felt the same way when people were upset that Iron Fist was being played by a white guy and many people wanted an Asian actor to play Iron Fist. I would not take issue with an Asian Iron Fist. I would take issue with an Asian Danny Rand. I love the African American/Puerto Rican Spider Man. Miles Morales is a great character, and an Amazing Spider Man. That said, an African American/Puerto Rican Peter Parker? I would have issues with that. This is the only place I have issues. A middle-eastern female Captain America? Depending on the story I could definitely get behind that. A middle-eastern female Steve Rogers? Nope. A mexican Black Panther? I could see it. A mexican T'challa? Nope. I'm trying to make this as clear as possible so there is no misunderstanding. The Mantle of a superhero can be passed on to peoples of all races, genders, nationalities, sexual orientations, religions, etc. (some exceptions may apply), but the characters? Clark Kent knows what it is to be an Alien, a Farm Boy, a Big City Reporter, and a Hero. He knows how it feels to have other alien races look down on him and treat him like less, but he is not a character who has been the victim of systemic racism from other members of the human race. Sure there has been the occasional story where people of other nationalities have thought less of superman because he was white, but that's not a part of that character. Val Zod? That could be a part of his character. Something that would be different from Clark Kent's history, and something that could make him a better Superman. I don't know. I've lost my train of thought in this rant somewhere so I'll get off here.

There's already a pretty good black superman with rich backstory. His name is, "Icon" from the Milestone comics, which DC bought and absorb into their universe, a while ago. Just use that, would serve a better superman movie and tv series without rehashing, the old superman origins again. 😁
