If emission within the system fall faster than the allocated credits, the price actually decreases. By holding credits one is exposed to the market’s supply and demand balance, as in other markets. Whether future demand will outpace supply is up to the investor to decide, but it is not ruled out that the energy transition progresses faster than anticipated or (!) governments water down initial targets by issueing more credits, in one shape or form.
