Brent did write the song at 16 and he was on drugs. All Shinedown songs are meant to help people and be catchy so people hear them. Brent likes writing songs with that formula that was how he started writing. He does use metaphors and sometimes he is straight forward with his lyrics. Great guys met them multiple times and they truly care about their fans. Brent is amazing vocalist and can sing anything. His acoustic side project along with guitarist Zach, Smith & Myers he does covers from Pearljam Black to Unchained Melody and original songs.
Always a pleasure David! Glad Mrs Heretic is feeling better as well. As a Shinedown fan. Love this song. Sing it sometimes myself. But man, Shinedown has some absolute bangers that aren't radio rock and no one requests them for some reason. Lacerated, The Crow And The Butterfly, Crying Out, Stranger Inside, all fantastic songs that never got much radio play
The Crow And The Butterfly, and Fly From the Inside (Acoustic) were always my favorites, with 3rd being difficult to choose from 45, Call Me, Breaking Inside
I really think the most impressive part of this song is that Brent was only 16 years old when he began writing it. And you are right, it was a hit for them, it reached number 1 on the mainstream rock charts.
SHINDOWN, good old FLORIDA band. They're in good company with LYNARD SKYNARD, ALLMAN BROTHERS, TOM PETTY, CREED, LIMP BISCUIT, MOLLY HATCHET, 38 SPECIAL, KC and the SUNSHINE BAND, MATCHBOX TWENTY, FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE, SLEEPING WITH SIRENS. I purposely left off BACKSTREET BOYS. LOL ✌️
Your comments are spot on. Never really gave it that much thought in detail. Yet, I love love this song. Im an old hard rock guy and I knew it was a hit first time it came out. I even got to know the producer later on. Also very talented. Here’s the thing, often it’s about feeling, and this felt great when I heard it. The lyrics also tell a tragic story in life. All of that aside, you gave this a lot of respectful thought that I didn’t consider before. The music industry needs guys like you . I don’t think it’s doing to well. Does anyone really care about the Grammy awards?
I love ❤️ Shinedown. I’m seeing them in April. They do a lot of songs about mental health. Last album 💿 Planet 🌍 Zero is a concept album about the pandemic, media, and being woke. They just released a new video Dead 💀 Don’t Die.
This took me back. 🙂 It was the first song I heard from Shinedown, back in high school. Still like the song (in fact, I like pretty much everything from Shinedown's first four albums), but it doesn't stand out to me as much as it used to.
Man please react of other songs from this album, Us and them by Shinedown is a very great album and for me is their best for an artistic stand point because it’s a really articulate and eclectic record front to back. I suggest you to react also to Lady so divine, I dare you, Beyond the sun, Heroes and Shed some light.
Appreciate your honesty. I'm a huge shinedown fan, never heard of this song - it's really old and none of the guitarist in this video are still in the band. Maybe there's a reason for that!
U might want to see what I just put up tonight. The songwriter was a 14 year old girl on dope. They bought the song for 50 bucks. She talks about it here. She's a legit honest person with one hell of a life story
Not the song that comes to mind when I think of Shinedown, but this was played on the radio non-stop when it was released. It just kind of blends together with every other song that was played on the radio at that time.
The singing honesty was amazing on this song. No kidding. And like he said, I was THERE for "daughters" and holy god, David was merciful for that one and it got a sub-1 score.
It’s better than your cover band tunes, so who’s up in the eights or nines, because there is not another singer out there that can sing like that… there’s just not!!! Myles Kennedy I love him, but not even close and never has Ben.

@@TaverenTech I actually sing 45, Breaking Inside, and have won contests with TC&TB
TC&TB is more of a ballad, but I agree on the others. I'd also add Begin Again, Cry For Help, and Son of Sam.

Omff. We're suing. He bought it for 50 bucks into Toronto. The formula is the production but The song writer is a real Toronto junk user girl.
The Crow and the Butterfly and Diamond Eyes are great tunes by them.

I've heard this song before. It was constantly on the radio. I agree with your review.

First concert I ever went to, at The Gothic in Denver, CO. Second concert was tool at Red Rocks Amphitheater

Ohhhh, if you love the vocals here. Just wait until you hear simple man.
If you want to hear great Shinedown songs, check out their earlier stuff like "The Sound of Madness".
This was before the sound of madness

Good
Not giving her credit means were going on the warpath
"Fly from the inside" is the best song by shinedown ,and when i say the best song i know what I'm talking about
Pretty good but Sounds exactly all the other bands from that era. No identity.. ah.. Dave just said the same thing lol
It’s better than your cover band tunes, so who’s up in the eights or nines, because there is not another singer out there that can sing like that… there’s just not!!! Myles Kennedy I love him, but not even close and never has Ben.
I’m not hearing anything from yours that’s impressive like this, or anything Shinedown’s done….
This is fkn abusive. Thr song writer just came forward
Good but too generic. Catchy but not that much.
Never heard about this band before, great song, love the singer's voice, its kinda generic but enjoyable
