2,000 Russian troops and that doesn’t include Transnistrian armed forces which have 5,000 active personnel and 16,000 in reserve (according to 2018 estimates) so in total let’s say at max there’s 20,000 troops that could open a front and draw Ukrainian forces away from the front lines and thus could put a larger strain on their logistics (which is key to maintain the front).
Transnistria is also home to one of the largest ammo depots in the world in the town of Cobasna (which sits right on the border with Ukraine). Although much of the ammo is from Soviet times some of it could be used for resupplying forces say if Russia decided to push for Odessa. This could also benefit Ukraine as if they were to take the depot they could use whatever ammunition is left to help alleviate their ammunition shortages.
Yes it may not seem like Russia could do anything but if they were to open another front it would force Ukraine to spread forces and resources further away from each other.

@@samuelpenniman1593 I personally don't believe that transistrians will try to annex Ukrainian land. The Russian troops would, but everywhere east of Transnistria has never been Moldovia, nor have many Russians living there.
I see your point if they attacked the western front though if they plan on a coup to overthrow the western friendly Moldovan government which I think is more likely.
But based on what the video is about, I was pointing out that Russians would find it really difficult to even try to take Moldava without being able to arm their troops and reinforce their ranks without a land or sea corridor and patriot missile systems are within range of any resupply plane who tries coming from the black sea.
According to DW a few months ago. The troops travel by river on passenger vessels to rotate.
I'm from Ireland and I hate the fact that you lose a part of your country just because the occupiers planted people there to justify their claim to the region forever. Northern Ireland,
Western Georgia, East Cyprus, Moldova and Ukraine. There are too many examples.
I am a firm believer in cutting it off and taking revenge by doing better though, like Cyprus and Ireland. As terrible as it is to succeed land to your land to the occupiers just because they moved their citizens to your land.

When the Soviets and the Czars deported or obliterated the local population to settle the vacant land with Russians that seems like ethnic cleansing. Does Russian need that much lebensraum? I still think that one of the most shameful and stupid things that happened in human history - is deployment of russian "peacekeepers" in Moldova, taking into account that they were belligerent side in that war, and not a bystander. And so the conflict was "frozen", but not solved. Instead, imagine if there were deployed proper peacekeepers, let's say UN peacekeepers, with people from different countries, without geopolitical interests - the conflict would be forgotten by now, maybe some level of autonomy similar to Gagauz-Eri. There isn't and wasn't any ethnic cleansing or hatred between sides, because russia created an artificial separatist region, without history, without nationality, without language, just by force and force only.

Let me ask this ; Who gives Putin the right to have "a broader sphere of interest in Ukraine " we live in 2024 not 1824 ??? What about the people who live in "that so called sphere of interest" that is the sovereign country of Ukriane and Moldova and the same goes for Georgia don't they (the Ukrainian Moldovan and Georgian ppl.) have an " sphere of interest in for their own countries " ?
Shall the Ukrainians the Moldovans and Georgians just bend their knee and behave as slaves, and become some sort of quasi 2nd class nation/ countries , and have their society run under the heel and accept being kicked by Kremlin's boot of the " sphere of Russian interest " ; Should those countries just roll over and let Russia controlled them for the sole benefit of Putin's klan agenda and the geopolitical intrs. of the Moscow Kremlin kleptocracy elites?:
And let Ukraine , Moldova and Georgia become some sort of quasi geographical entities for political advantages of the Kremlin ? Or should those countries stand up and fight against the tyrannical idea of PUTINS "sphere of interest" and stand up for their independence as the independent European self governing state they are and FIGHT for freedom, sovereignty and self-rule ??
FACT !!! Ukriane , Moldova and Georgia was forced into this wars by Russia not Russia by Ukriane, Moldova and Georgia (or anyone else ) those countries had no choice they needed to defend their countries and ppl. against a brutal evilaggressor that is Russia . And we all know the Russian authorities of the aggressor country Russia do not want any peace.
(In ukraine's case If the Russian army stops fighting today and goes home back to Russia tomorrow there will be NO war If Ukraine stops fighting today there will be NO Ukraine !! )

@@puraLusa I have already read Dugins “Foundations of Geopolitics” a long time ago .. And i AGREE : The Geopolitical Future of Russia is a geopolitical book writen by Aleksandr Dugin its Putins Bible !!
LETS LOOK AT PUTIN ON THE HOME FRONT...
One of the biggest advisory to Putin and the Kremlin is Alexander Dugin ..
Who is this Alexander Dugin ??
Well an old saying is one is the companion you hold and the friends you have...
Russian fascist Aleksandr Dugin's dreams of a Russian dictatorship and he is getting it with his good friend and leader Mr Putin..
( NOTE :Anti-Semite and former leader of Ku Klux Klan David Duke is a very good friend of Dugins ....)
Dugin’s career, has bean moving from his expulsion from the Moscow Aviation Institute for involvement in protonazi mystical circles in the early 1980s,to now being one of RuSSias top advisory to Putin..
Dugin’s political and geopolitical ideology of Eurasianism and his continues maniac attempts of Repeating the ideas of oldnazi theorists Karl Haushofer, Rudolf
Hess, Carl Schmitt, and Arthur Moeller van den Bruck puts the neonazi Russian Alexander Dugin and Putin in a very special place of hypocritical depots ...
Alexander Dugin once said """What Russia needs, says Dugin, is a “genuine, true, radically revolutionary and consistent, fascist fascism.”
Dugins also says , “ Western democracy , is an absolute evil.
Only a global crusade against the U.S., the West, globalization, and their political-ideological expression,, is capable of becoming an adequate response. . .. The American empire liber must be destroyed.”""
Dugin says about his Eurasia zone
This “Empire of the End” is marked by the “dialectical triad” which combines “Third Rome - Third Reich - Third International.”
All the expectations of historic Russian messianic delusions, combined with the Joachimite aims of neonazism and Soviet Bolshevism, purportedly find their highest expression in this new ideology, according to Dugin.
Now who really has neonazis in power that is the question and Alexander Dugin is def, a neonazis high up the power tree of Russia Yes he is in fact the architect of Putin's now Eurasia Union ..

Opening up a second (or third, depending on how you look at it) front would be very dangerous for Russia. Aside from their issues within Ukraine, the recent incursion by various Russian/Chechen/etc anti-Putin troops into various parts of Russia highlights and exacerbates the problem with the Russian military, it's military leadership, and ultimately Putin.
Both Moldova and Transnistria are relatively equal in size in terms of military personnel (even with Russian "peacekeepers"), so I'd say it's unlikely that the Russian "peacekeepers" in Transnistria would be able to achieve anything significant militarily.
The biggest problem with Moldova, however, is that it needs to modernise it's military equipment.
