I learned a long time ago... If the wife thinks it looks good and it doesn't bother you... Leave it. 😂
I learnt a long time ago.... if wife gets any ideas around you, change wife asap
Well I guess you need to take out the coffee maker? LOL! Sacrafices must be made.
I really like the integrated bed scale, it's great information to have 'before' you hit the road. The rear pinstripe is cool and all but I prefer a cleaner, uninterrupted look on the rear flare.
I hit the disable rear sensors button above your screen when I back up to my hitch. That truck is sweet.
The bed scale seems kinda gimmicky seeing it doesn't actually give you any values. I also don't like the pin stripe in either location. Why didn't they make the mirror position programmable and assigned to the trailer profile. Just my opinion so treat it like any other youtube comment from a nobody that matters 😊
I got four kids, two dogs, and a cat and my wife and I were about to sell our house and start this life. So thank you for uploading these type of videos. Very helpful. She’s a traveling nurse and we want to be together now
My wife is the same. Just bought camper and are hitting the road this month for full time.
JD sharp looking rig with the trailer. I like the pin strip on both front and back, I own a 2022 450Larit and that was before the bed scale. Nice to see the up dates the new trucks!!!
It’s hard to believe that trailer weighs that much… I was expecting right at 3k, great video and demonstration!
3k? My 2024 20’ is over 3600lb dry I have one of the smallest campers made Jeep pulls it with ease
Brooklyn Bedding. Great mattresses
Nice setup, and I really like the bed scale. I was skeptical about the bed scale when I first heard about it, but not anymore. I have a combo 45 gal fuel tank/tool box in my 22 F450, and with 3k-3.2k pin weight I'm around the same rear axle weight as you are. Thanks for showing everything.
Too heavy a trailer. Need a Peterbilt.
The technology and ability to have a trailer library is just awesome. Get your preferences set, the light test is great (especially if you are working solo). Having the odometer is great-can help give a real world estimate of how far the trailer has travelled and when maintenance is needed.
Very nice truck! One of the big upgrades we did for our F-350 SRW was to change the OEM fuel tank with a nearly 70-gallon tank. It fits in the same space as the OEM tank. We also installed an air compressor inside the frame, located under the right passenger seat. We pull a 38 ft 5er.
You need to do something else with the ninja what happens when you have a emergency stop? It goes someplace..you might think it'll never move but when you slam hard on the brakes it probably will go into something..
Beautiful combination! Congratulations!
Brooklyn Bedding, Baby. Mine weighs 50 lbs. and it is wonderful ‼️
Great technology and thank you so much for sharing. 😎👍
That new truck looks so good and I'm sure it will perform flawlessly
If the bed scales don’t give you the amount of weight you just added when you put the weight of the trailer on the ball it just gives you the lights and bar graph, what is the point? Still a guessing game.
We are getting out of Texas in a week to head up to the mountains too. Texas heat is getting worse the older I get. LOL
Mattress Insider 9" memory foam, weighs about 1/2 what you have and it's really comfortable. We've had it for 6 years now and it's better than our Tempurpedic at home.
Beautiful rig, enjoy!
Look at Helix mattresses... I have a bad back and I sleep like a dead man on this mattress. All done online, great return program... you won't be disappointed.
How about an air mattress, technology has to be pretty good in that area these days and they have to be better and that would light. Or a water bed and just fill it up when you get to your spot 😂
I've never seen nor heard of a mattress being 200 lbs.
Sharp looking setup! Nice looking truck. Stripes add some definition!
You’re wrong about the distance from your truck to the rv. A fifth wheel is the the same distance but I actually have more room when my tailgate is down than yours and I have a fifth wheel 😂so stop lying to the people
Lose the back strip
Scale has a downside is called, warranty ford will use that to void it..😮
When the shades are down they swing back and forth and potentially cause damage.
Nice features. If HR says it good leave the stirpes on the back :)
Do you have a furrion backup camera on that trailer and if so did it work. I can't get my cameras to turn on my Riverstone 2024 39RKFB. Tried turning headlights on truck still not working. I have a 2024 F450 limited and the Air conditioner went out at 1600 miles. Ford says the compressors are on back order. Hope you have better luck with your truck.
Nice looking truck and trailer. 11:46. Things I’ve learned on my 24 F350 platinum- That is a whole truck scale, not just a bed scale. The 150 is just an average driver weight ford puts in there that can be changed (not sure where they get that from, I’m way over😂). Above the payload number up there, if you tap the 3 bars, you can change it to an actual scale if you need to and it is surprisingly accurate. Hopefully that helps you with that feature.
That totally does. I'm learning something new everyday. Thank you
I love your videos. I’m new to your channel so forgive me if you covered this in another video, can you tow this size RV with a 1 ton srw? Specifically, I’m looking at the Brinkley z3610, so it’s a little bit smaller and lighter overall.
Please start using axle capacities and not going off of "payload". I have been watching your channel for years now and I have never once heard you mention axle capacities. Show the sticker inside the door, explain axle capacities, and even explain why sometimes when added up, they don't equal the GVWR. Nobody on TH-cam seems to understand axles, they just use the payload. Then head to the scales and verify what your built in scale is telling you. Let's see if this F-450 is really as close to it's capacity as you say.
So you're saying that just because the axle might have a higher GAWR that you should ignore the GVWR and Payload capacity rating the manufacturer puts on the truck? Basically, your assuming that just because 1 link in a chain is larger and stronger than the others, that suddenly all of the links become stronger in turn? Pretty sure engineering, physics and logic do not work that way my friend.
When I was a kid, we would go camping with my grandparents every summer for a month.
They were pulling out of my parents driveway and had left the steps to the 5th wheel out.
My parents had an old stump next to the driveway. Let's just say that the stump was removed and the stairs were mangled.
JD, i see you jave a solar panel on your good neck, and was wondering what you use it for? I need to keep my batteries charged in Alaska's winter, and solar might ne the way to go. Any information would be appreciated.
Do you recommend using air bags verse an additional spring to raise the back end that sags. Pulling with 1500 Ram. Thanks
Nice Truck. #Ford needs to remove these horrible looking bed & bumper steps. The tailgate steps and the bumper are enough to get inside the bed. Ridiculous looking and useless !! Hope #ford watches your videos.
I always leave power plugged in until the trailer is on the truck. It seems to help with voltage to the box for the jacks. I’ve had low voltage issues with the system since it was new.
Nice looking setup, pinstripes are awesome.
Lots of technology to go wrong with checklists and automatically checking lights when you can do the light checks with a 2nd person.
The Ford Pass app used to have the trailer light check built in. Incredibly useful and convenient. Ford took that away, but hasn't implemented the trailer light check on the head unit for F150 owners yet.
That 5.0 or whatever update ruined the app. I got the APK for an older version, works great.
My scale is already broken. Green bar shows 1300 ish pounds with no load lol.
Does the parking brake engage every time you put it in park or just when the drivers door is open and you place it in park?
It all looks great 👍
While technology helps. There are lots of times it is too much. This is one of those times. Too much in the truck.
Love the way the white truck looks with the Brookstone!
Buy new truck,brain not needed!
More like first hook up, not first tow.
At first I'm thinking it's a giant ass fifth wheel, why get a lighter bed. But after hearing it's 200lbs..that's the heaviest camper bed I've ever heard of lol.
So I’m about 95% sure I’m trading my Momentum 25G for an East To West 3150KBH. It’s 8’ longer but weighs the same as the toy hauler. Think I’ll notice a difference towing? My biggest concern is I’ve got real good at backing that Momentum. Will it be different?
Hard to say. You'll likely enjoy backing in the longer trailer since it will feel slower so long as you take into account the extra length.
Amazing truck! Beautiful spec
Does the trailer light check checks the hazard lights? I didn’t see the hazards get checked.
Not being rude here, genuinely curious, but you have that huge F-450 which can tow 25K lbs and that travel trailer nearly maxes out payload but well below max tow weight? What the hell would you need to tow that thing without being on the edge, or do you just have a ton of weight in the front? Seems shaving 80lbs on a mattress barely puts a dent in it. However i am also not well versed on the tongue weights of these travel trailers, I always though they were built light to prevent having to spends $150K on a truck to tow them.
A Gooseneck trailer loaded up to 36,000lbs with 5,250lbs of tongue weight when properly balanced would be the max this truck could be loaded with. Must have VERY good trailer brakes and experienced. I made several videos on just such a load at the Ford Proving Grounds
If you took the 5” offset ball out it would show less weight on the truck scale. Looks like you have plenty of room to tow the trailer with the factory gooseneck ball location & 8’ bed
Forgive my ignorance but what advantage(s) does the conversion from 5th wheel to Gooseneck hitch provide?
Mainly the lack of a fifth wheel hitch in the bed of the truck. When unhitched, I get my bed back and don't have to fuss with removing a 150lbs part. Even if there are tricks to removing the hitch, they all require managing the part.
Man that’s a beautiful truck
Dude your nasty no glove when handling the sewer hose.
Don’t tow with freshwater unless boondocking. Dump the waste tanks. Keep as little canned food as getawaywithable. Put some heavy cargo in the cab or wifey’s car. Not being a know it all, just sharing a few things I do. I appreciate your tips!
I always carry about 25 gallons of fresh water when travelling so I have water to flush the toilet etc. Could probably carry less and still be good while travelling.
@@treecatt We take a couple gallons for the sh**ter.
25 gallons = 200 pounds.
is the 12.2 mpg your truck shows while hooked up or was that your average mpg unloaded?
15.9city Is what I've been averaging.
Why a goose neck and not a traditional 5th wheel hitch?
200lb mattress??? that's insane. What brand is it?
It's nice... what do you.think I should do to live in full time. A GMC van , a Colorado with small RV.,or a 1500 diesel with a RV, 3500 gas, diesel long body. Just myself. 😮😊
My 22 F350 XLY CC LB 4x4 7.3L fully loaded has a payload of 4497 so i can definitely tow this
Sweet gloves when touching the sewer hose🤮
You have a nice set up! How do you like your Brookstone? We looked at a Chaparral 336 FL when we bought our East to West 5th wheel. We also looked at a Brookstone, but it was too heavy for my Ram 2500. I have now upgraded into a Ram 3500 dually, so the discussion has shifted to what is the next RV for us. Again, beautiful rig.
Believe me I'm not rv person, don't even own one. Your video just popped up and suggested
I purchased a new 2023 F450 although it's just an XLT not the fancy platinum carrying capacity is 5135 on it
I pull a triple axle deuce neck triple tandem with a John Deere 700 dozer. I have the tongue indicator built on the trailer and routinely have 8 to 10,000 pounds on the tongue handles it like a champ
But then again most of my travels are within 50 miles of my homebase not like an RV going across the United States
Also sure like the looks of that truck I bet it looks sharp going down the road
I have a 46 foot raptor triple axel with a 150 gallon water tank 3 ac units 70 gallons of fuel 3.500 pound garage capacity and i pull it with a volvo 780vnl what a comfot i weight in at 28.500 pounds with 3.800 pouds hitch weigh and i get 12 miles per gallon also the ride and breaking is remarkable sorry just saying
Ok only a green light not a number on the bed scale? C-
Hey JD, I hope you're having a great day! I really like everything that your new F450 gives you and all the different things that you can do when you hitch up your fifth wheel. The scale that you have in the bed of your truck is great an the check list that you have on the infotainment screen is spot on . I figured the back end of your truck would have been Squatted alittle bit but you can't even tell that you have weight in the bed of your truck. Have a super great trip and be safe my friend! Happy 4TH of JULY JD!!!! Your number one fan an friend Leonard from North Carolina.
Nice rig. I have a F-350 XLT that I tow our Durango with, I"m impressed with the features on yours.
I'll admit I agree the tailgate camera and sensors don't seem very useful. Feels almost like more of "Hey look what my truck can do" sort of feature. Funny enough, I can't remember if your truck has them, but when they first came out, I heard a lot of people say the same about the Max Recline seats. Neat, but not very comfortable/practical(since you had to get out of the truck, and lift the rear seats).
RV on a diet, classic - generator is permanent, washer and dryer-she says No. change bed, 6 years left on warranty. Your rv is very similar to our KZ MB382MBQ.
So if you actual pin weight is 3600lbs and the top of scale on that in cab display is 4941 lbs it’s waaaaay off. You should be roughly 3/4 of the maximum load but that gauge looks more like 90%. If the tech isn’t accurate it isn’t going to be useful.
On the plus side it looks great and I love that it didn’t seem to squat at all. I’ll bet it’s a dream to tow.
200 pound mattress??? Please put that on a scale for use to see. Minus the gold bars hidden in it.
@@tp0376 that’s what I was thinking…. I’ve never heard of a 200 lb. mattress unless it was a water bed (which would be considerably heavier).
Being from a cold-weather state, I would disagree. I never ever use a parking break. They have a tendency to stick in the winter time, especially Fords. I love my Fords
You've probably talked about it before, but what's the advantage of a gooseneck ball versus a 5th wheel style hitch? I know the ball can be flipped or removed more easily than the full 5th wheel hitch but is there another advantage with towing, maneuvering, etc?
Over the years I think I have seen you taking the 5th wheel maybe 3x on short trips. I would absolutely Not change the mattress to save 50lb. Get a cargo box on the rear bumper/hitch of the 5th wheel and load it with the tools out of the truck and whatever else. That will make the nose lighter without changing the mattress.
first thing I noticed when I dropped my gate, was that camera really doesn't help for trailering. Like you said the perspective is a bit off to use in close proximity. I also had a hard time just backing up across the yard using the top gate camera, vs the normal tailgate camera, definitely learning curve.
Can't believe they don't give you a number for the weight, just a green bar. You have a 450 and you still may be close once the family, dog, gas and other stuff you load in the truck before you go. How much room on the green bar did you have when you actually pulled out to travel?
Nice truck great video. We leave a quarter of fresh watervin tanks it takes around 480 pounds of 5thwheel.
I don't think I saw before that you use the gooseneck connection. Is that a setup you'd actually fully recommend? I like a gooseneck much more than the massive, standard hitch setup but have read in some facebook pages it's not the best. That was a little over a year ago though.
I have the exact same setup. I use a magnetic telescope ball. I stick it to the back edge of the goose ball plate and back up to the “S” on the REESE 20K emblem and as soon as it starts to bend forward stop the truck. Just eyeball it out the back window. You’ll be right on target.
Why do you keep referring to your connection as a 5th wheel? You have a gooseneck. There is no 5th wheel (plate) in your truck.
I had a goosebox and with as much as I tow it was a deletion. Glad to see the new truck working for you. Strongly debating doing a truck upgrafe shortly.
I think the bed scale is smart. To wiegh at a scale station that means towing it there, then if its too heavy you still have to tow it home to unpack some. Thats dangerous and damages your vehicle and rig. Know before you tow!❤❤❤❤❤
Check out a Sleep Number RV, I have a queen and would say is well under 200 lbs, probably 125.
JD would you consider doing the VOLTA system upgrade to your rig similar to "Changing Lanes"?
Great looking rig... pinstripe looks good...could always find a grafix detailer and get some matching grafix for the truck to the coach...😊
1) Interesting video.
2) That auto light check feature is a neat feature. Sure beats walking back and forth from front to rear checking each taillight and turn signal.
2) Keep the pinstripes.
I have 24 350 dually lariat I like how it will keep track of Miles for each trailer you add helps keep track of trailer maintenance beautiful truck and rv combo I went with black truck and have a momentum toy hauler so the black and white looks nice with black truck
There’s a scale mode you can see in the scale app. It gives you an actual number if I remember right. It will be a range for the exact number. You’ll find this mode in the settings menu at the top.
Good looking truck/fifth wheel setup. I'm looking forward to your video on the driving experience with the new truck versus your old truck.
I think it's really cool to tow these huge trailers, real houses on wheels, and it's even cooler that your government encourages caravanning and its roads and streets are well structured to receive them, here in Brazil it's the opposite, most cities don't allow it. At your entrance, most campsites cannot support a trailer of this size, and the Winnebago and Jayco are often sold here but only in small sizes, entering urban centers with a trailer of this size is an impossible task, narrow streets and signage downtown we are trying to change the laws to encourage caravanning here, I hope that in the future it will be different, hugs
I was wanting to ask you if Battery Disconnect switches are a good idea to prevent theft and battery drain on your truck or RV. Is that something you have considered?
Beautiful setup! What are the benefits of the gooseneck over a 5th wheel setup that you've used in the past? With that large of a rig, do you notice a difference in towing stability?
Can you tell me what the end of your clean out end is called and where you got it. Thanks.I did not see it your equipment what you used.
Can you tell me what the adapter you have on the Reese? I have such a problem filling that. Thanks and safe travels
Where did you find that magnetic holder (attached to the side of the Goosebox) for the breakaway cable?
