  • Re-wind the clock! Here I bring the layout to life with a full ultra realistic running session with pure 90s traction at its best.
    Not only is this running session featuring most my stock it has been meticulously edited with time period filters and real sound dubbed over and all timed to perfection.
    Plenty of thrash!
    To take it a step further I've also been given permission to use real footage which is also mixed into this video.
    All real footage can be found here:

    This brought back memories of sitting in dads car (gold vauxhall viva with black leather seats) and eating KFC in the car park next to the red cow crossing and mum shouting train every time a train went by. 40 years ago now, how time has flown by.

    This is the finest expression of why modellers do what they do in my opinion; to recreate scenes never to be repeated from a time now past forever. Superb filming and editing skills with brilliant modelling. Many thanks for sharing.

      Indeed, it's pretty much what I remember from my childhood right upto when I was about 16.

    Excellent video Tim. The use of real life footage really brings your fantastic layout to life.

    What a great video.
    Combing real footage from ‘back in the day’ & then replicating these in model form on your superb layout is truly fantastic.

    Living in Dawlish I regularly travel through St David’s. The layout is very well put together and running with recorded sounds made it very enjoyable to watch. I spent an hour at the station the other day and apart from the arrival of a castle Hst, it was very uninspiring. Thanks for sharing

    One of the best videos I’ve seen what a great combination of real footage and model with all the sounds to go with it, great job 👏🏻 🙂

      Thanks. Yep I'm glad I added the real footage, certainly something you don't often see on TH-cam.

    My god that’s by far the best video put together I’ve seen in a very long time, must have taken you ages , you’ve captured the era so well on your layout and brings back so many happy memories, thank you so much for sharing, cheers Darrell

      Thanks Darrell. Yep took a while to film and edit. Had heaps of clips that weren't used as the timing / speeds weren't bang on so they never made it into final edit. Saved for another day.

    Outstanding Tim and thanks for making the effort to make the video. There are so many good reference points . One thing I did notice was how dirty the stock was .
    Cheers Kev

      Thanks Kev. Dirty stock was the thing that made this time period. Can't beat it!

      I fondly remember the daily commute to London when on a Monday there was dried vomit on the windows from the Friday night ! Not sure how to model it though 😀😀

      Thanks Nicholas, challenging one to put together but certainly worth it.

  • @andrewstevenson5449
    @andrewstevenson5449 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Brilliant. That must have taken hours to put together.
    The sound overlay of the real thing also confirmed what, for me, is one of the main issues with sound-fitted locos - you only hear the loco, not the train.

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers. Yep it took ages, haven't spoken to the family for weeks lol.
      The sound overlay is by far better than listening to a sound fitted loco which in reality you hear not only through the locos speaker but also once again through the video speaker and it always sounds tinny.

    Well congratulations on a stunning video. I really enjoyed sitting there watching the trains. Especially when you had model and real in the same movement, as in the 47 and dmu leaving at the same time for Exeter Central. Oh did you notice the open door on the DMU as it left St Davids? I wonder if anyone got in trouble for that. I realised watching this video why I am not that interested in todays railway, it's missing real locomotives! Anyway thanks again and a big pat on the back for you. All the best and thanks again Dave.'

      @thescrapline4905  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, the real clips were a last minute thought and required a re-edit, that door caught my eye.. its amazing just how dangerous it was on the platforms back in slam door days.. not even a yellow line in sight either. Bet there were a few who got clouted by doors.

  • @SteveSmithRailways
    @SteveSmithRailways 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    An absolute modelling masterclass video there Mr C. That has to be one of the best videos that I've seen. That's not a 5 minute video edit either and a stunning capture of both the model and real life trains mixed together to give a thoroughly enjoyable 28 minutes of viewing.
    Next time, move the little screw out of the way....lol.
    BRILLIANT MATE.
    Steve

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Steve, the added real clips was abit of a last minute thought so sent some messages out last week for permission before re-editing my own clips into this. Took some work.. haven't spoken to the family for about 2 weeks 😆
      That screw holds my point switch blade in place lol. Dodgy engineering at its best.

      @@thescrapline4905 making videos and editing is my favourite part that's for sure, so know where you're coming from on that one as regards to how long they take.

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SteveSmithRailways same. The amount of times I've shot back in the loft because take one didn't look right - I lost count.
      The 37 pulling out of the north end near the end of the video was a pain to film, it hates that part of the level crossing for some reason and struggles, so had to add the sound of a 37 under load for the heck of it lol.

    Eyup Tim, all looks well there mate.
    I make/made quite a few videos like this and it's surprising how much effort goes into them isn't it?
    I just use my phone, so I've not got the memory to store loads of diesel sounds sadly .. so I just use the decoder 😁
    But real sounds DOES add something nice!😎
    Keep it up mate, cheers!
