I adore Doom. The timeline of these games are still up for debate as Doom 3 was seen as a reboot by many while Doom 2016 was also seen as a Reboot until this game released which revealed that the classic games are canon in a cool way. But I'll sum it up as base as i can below with no spoilers.

Doom ll: Hell on Earth - *2022*
Doom 64 - *2023*
Doom Reboot | Mid 22nd century
Doom 3 - *2145*
Doom Soft Reboot | Mid 22nd century
Doom 2016 - *2149*
Doom Eternal - *2163*
Pretty much everything you hear about the Doom Slayer is event that took place in between Doom 64 and Doom 2016 in the massive 100+ time gap. The time gap could be explained by hell moving slower than Earth as Hell does exist outside of time and place with door ways to all universes. Many people have came up with the idea that Doom Guy also travelled into a new universe as well with an alternate Earth and UAC. Hell invaded Earth in Doom 2 so you'd think the UAC and humankind would be more careful in the future which lead many to believe that this is a different Earth. But hey Humans are dumb so I could see them repeating history again with the UAC once again messing with hell leading to an invasion. Doom 3 is seen as a reboot so it's hard to say where it fits into the timeline. But it's never stated that we play as Doom Guy/ Doom Slayer, only referred to as The Doom Marine so this game could be a side story where once again UAC messed with Hell on Mars leading to another outbreak a few years before Doom 2016 where the same thing happened.
Side note but the Wolfenstein games also created by ID Software has had a timeless theory that states that Doom Guy is the descendant of the protagonist of the Wolfenstein games.

This mechanic is part of the game. Blue drops 💙 are health. Your health bar is Blue. Green drops are your armor. If you chainsaw kill they drop ammo. If you kill with the glory kill the enemies will drop health. It depends on how you kill your enemies what they drop for you.
In doom eternal you don't escape the demons. You hunt them.

Low ammo is by design. The game encourages you to engage by forcing you to use its mechanics to reload ammo and health. You probably noticed that when the flashing enemies are killed you get health falling from them, and when you chainsaw one you get the rainbow (ammo). You are expected to seek out enemies and eliminate them with purpose. When you are low on health, you need to create flashing enemies, when you are low on ammo you are expected to chainsaw. Later on you can get a flamethrower, and that's purpose is that when you kill enemies on fire you get armor. Eventually the gameplay is that you control what you need in battle, and tactically choose what you do next. It's kind of a battle-chess.

As an ultra nightmare player with 3K+ hours in the game it’s always a pleasure to see someone experience this absolute masterpiece of a game.

@@JonesySpaceCat it’s actually not that hard just needs getting used to. by the end of the game you’ll instantly notice how far you came skill wise.
But if you’re feeling a challenge that’s a good thing, eternal is at it’s peak when it’s challenging it’ll force you to play with your controller like you never thought before and once you get into that zone with that sick ass soundtrack playing in the background you just can’t help but feel the adrenaline kicking in.
@@the_mse Yes, exactly. You just actually has to spend 3000+ hours on grinding one mode of a single game and obviously at some point it won't be so hard for you.

I finished the game in ultra-violence, it was a real workout, but a rewarding experience. Love this game, it brought back the old-school game mechanics from the 90s and modernized it. The metal music is great as well.
I like to describe this game as gamer's game because it just a pure challenge in its gameplay like the original.

@@brendonnunchuk5318 I thought I could beat Eternal on UV because I played Doom 2016 on UV, but it was too hard lol so I played it on Hurt Me Plenty for my first playthrough. I now have completed the game, DLC, and all master levels on Ultra Nightmare but I still wouldn't recommend playing this game for the first time on UV
The talking monty python head is gonna give me more nightmares than what demons hell can throw at me. JK. :)

I love this game! Very intense to say the least. Was so much fun watching you play 😂You may have already figured this out but chainsaw kills drop ammo and regular melee kills drop health. With that in mind the game is kind of meant for you to just spray and pray 🤪
I come from the warzone of DooM to watch new players experience the first steps of epiceness, because I want to relive that feeling of experiencing it for the first time again.
But as a dev, it is astonishing how many first players don't read and digest the tutorial scripts that were whittled down to their essence of purity., to make them as short and sweet as possible.
Also I like this bird. She's mustard. I will watch the playthrough. Slay on, Slayer.

Funnily enough I've been playing this on PS5 since it came to the game catalogue. I actually played a bit of it on PS4 in 2020 but only the first couple of levels before I got distracted by Ghost Of Tsushima and TLOU Part 2 and never went back to it. It's a lot of fun.

You need pto play "Doom" 2016 before this game
Don't feel bad about playing this on normal, it throws a lot at you. I normally play games on normal my first playthrough then hard or hardest difficulties with replays because I actually want to enjoy my first playthrough at a leisurely pace. I played Doom Eternal when it first came out and it was a blast all the way through, with some difficulty spikes due to excessive enemy placement here and there. The main thing you need to remember is constantly moving, you have to be all over the place in these fights. I enjoy shooters like this, but I can see why some could be put off by it. I hope you stick with this, it's a great shooter

Jonesy, when I tell you that I did a legit SpongeBob screech seeing this pop up in my notifications.... I thought I was excited for your Dead Space playthrough. But this? Ohhhh shit, get ready for a wild ride!
A couple general tips based on what I've seen so far:
1. Keep moving (which you figured out)
2. The heavy cannon is a machine gun, so you might be better off holding R1 rather than tapping it.
3. The blue stuff you were wondering about is health. Glory kills (those fancy finishing moves you can do on flashing monsters) will always make them drop health.

Hey Jonesyyy. Things you need to know: (Just in case you do not :) )
-The Chainsaw holds three charges. You pick up the gasoline tanks to refill them, but one always recharges on its own.
-Using the chainsaw replenishes your ammo. For all weapons you have. (The ammo is the colorful mess that spills out of them when you cut them).
-Use your map often. The 1up (Extra life) that you found there, will be displayed on the map in case you missed it.
-The Blue Antenna Thingy that you couldn't figure out at 33:00 is a map beacon. It displays all the extra secrets on your map, without you having to approach the place manually.
-Some of the breakable walls or punch-able objects will not always be illuminated in green color. You'll have to keep an eye out for them.
-The bigger the enemy (Like that scorpion skull monster), the more Chainsaw charges you require to kill it.
-Whenever you're low on health, look for the tiny, weak monsters around you and kill them in the special melee method (The one where they keep flashing. It's called 'Glory Kill'). They always drop extra health.

I also thought I could use that swingy bar in the blown out office building to get up to the top of the room. Eventually realized that the swingy bars and vents are there to be used to jump around during fights. Then it got even more fun.

Easily the greatest singleplayer FPS of all time. Once you master all the mechanics of this game you get this "I'm a god" feeling that almost no other game can provide

Funny how you're scared of everything, even items :D, but if you keep at it, and commit the mechanics (also general fps mechanics) to memory/muscle memory, you'll feel like an unstoppable killing machine in a few levels time... :)

doom eternal and 201doom are 2 of the best games ever... if fromsoftware(bloodborne/darksouls devs) ever made a first person shooter,it would be a game just like this.... even the lower difficultys are tough as nails.... but its a very rewarding feeling once you get by a hard area(thats what she said), just like a souls game... so yes,,continue the series and lets us watch you suffer.. i beg you

I just also started a blind olaythrough buy ny dumbass wanted a full on doom experience and i started on nightmare 😭. Dony get me wrong im loving the game, its just a lot more fast pace than my typical games, but the music do be keeping ny addrenaline up
Try to be more aggressive in combat its the best way to get health, and also don’t worry about wasting ammo, thats what the chainsaw is for
