So pretty much the Arkham Games are set in their own continuity but they do pull heavily from comics from the mainline DC universe from Barbara Gordon (Now Oracle) being shot and paralyzed by the Joker an event featured in The Killing Joke comic to other fun references and nods throughout the game relating to events brought up and in the character bios. Pretty much comics like Batman Year One, Long Halloween, Hush, The Code, and A Death In The Family to name a few. Events similar to these happened pre Arkham Asylum within that 10 year gap so even though this game isn't connected to the comics it does follow a very similar history up until this point around Bruce's 10th year as Batman. The Bat suit and the Batmobile are original designs so they do a great job at making this Batman stand out and iconic to the series. The later games, more so Arkham Knight allow you to use other Batsuits as well from the movies and comics similar to Spider-Man PS4. This game is heavily inspired by the Batman Animated Series visually and in tone as well. But it goes even deeper as it also features many of the same voice actors from Kevin Conroy as Batman, Mark Hamill as the Joker, and Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn with the character of Harley Quinn actually being an original character created for the show only to be brought into mainline comics in 1999. The game is also written by Paul Dini who was heavily involved with the writing of the Animated Series and even wrote Batman comics as well so it's like a follow to up the Animated Series mixed with the comics. Gotham itself looks amazing in the other games has a very timeless gothic meets art deco look to it inspired by the Burton movies of course and the Animated Series. It's like a hybird of a bunch of decades similar to how the Burton movies featured people wearing 1930s style suits meanwhile people had computers etc an elements that is showcased much more in the later games. Gotham in the background of this game looks pretty typical American City but you do see some small gothic elements but the next game they go all in on the depiction of Gotham as it's less of a background character. Like the 1930s meets modern times a hybrid of olds meets new. The Animated Series dived more into this set in the 1990s but people wore hybrid clothes and drove around in very 1930s to 1950s looking cars in a Dark Deco city with alot of Art Deco. It's a really fun setting but it's not the main focus of Arkham Asylum. Arkhamverse: Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009) Batman: Arkham City (2011) Batman: Arkham Origins (2013) Batman: Arkham Knight (2015) Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2024)
for a Jedi you know an awful lot about Batman 😂 Thank you SO much for sharing all of this. I will defo look into the animated series and I have the Batman graphic novels on my Amazon wish list. Hope you're having a great day 🦇
FYI you shouldn't do the glide kick when you're up against a team of joker's henchmen armed with assault rifles and shotguns in any buildings on Arkham island.
Feel free to look at the bios during gameplay especially if you aren’t familiar with the world of Batman. A lot of Arkham fans, including me, love to watch new players learn about all the twisted characters and backstories as they go.
I felt like I might be the last person on the planet NOT to have played these games. I didn't wanna bore you guys. 😂😂 I'm loving learning about the characters in-depth 🦇🙌🦇
@@JonesySpaceCat Firstly, I think I can speak for the majority of us by saying it isn’t boring. We love seeing new player’s reactions to learning and getting familiar with the world we’ve all come to love so much. So please feel free to read the bios during the video. Secondly, let me assure you that you’re not the last person to find out about this game. New people keep finding this series every day and we love watching their reactions as much now as we did when the game was still fresh and new.
Jonesy, you are in for a treat. Combat, storyline, puzzles. This was the start of a great series that really shaped super hero games for a good while to come. Hope you have fun with it.
This was the first Batman game (in a lot of people's opinions) that made you feel like Batman. You not only kick butt, but you see why he's called the Dark Knight Detective. It also helped that they got the voice actors and writer from the Batman Animated Series. We're gonna have so much fun with this series, Space Cat.
If you love Asylum this much then Arkham City is going to blow your mind. The opening took me back to when i grabbed this from GameStop at midnight. Great times.
6:04 Kevin Conroy was the main Batman voice for 30 years until he died last November. Him and Mark Hamill have been Batman and Joker since Batman The Animated Series in the 90's.
It’s amazing to see someone just getting into these games these days. I see you made series for all the Arkham games, that’s so awesome. Looking forward to working through them all and seeing how you felt about things as you went. 👍🏻
Yay! I'm excited that you're playing this! Loved those games, especially the first and second. Mark Hamill is the only true Joker and it's amazing that they got him as an voice actor for this as well. Just love it! Hope you have a wonderful day, Jonesy!
Hi Jonesy. Destroying the teeth give you some XP you can use for upgrades. They also serve as a guide to show you’re going in the right direction to the next objective. BTW with that big enemy, you use the batarang to stun him as he charges towards you. Then get some hits in the wear down his health. Glad you’re enjoying it. 🙂
Very excited for this new Series! Batman is so Iconic, brings back a lot of childhood memories. I like the Gothic dark look, I like the Joker’s look to! Glad your enjoying it so far! 🤗
Can't wait for you're Arkham City and Arkham Knight lets plays the whole trilogy of games are great along with Arkham Origins a prequal game created by a different studio while Rocksteady were working on Arkham Knight. It's why Origins features non of the voice actors as they were working on Knight but it doesn't take away from the game at all and honestly fits with the story taking place around 8 years before Arkham Asylum featuring a younger Batman. I'm not sure who the casting director is but all credit goes to Andrea Romano who oversaw all the casting for the DC Animated Universe and is the person who gave us roles like Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as Joker. Originally Tim Curry was the voice of Joker with the first few Joker episodes being fully animated around Tim Curry but they didn't think Tim delivered what they wanted in the Joker. Andrea Romano thought about contacting Mark Hamill and he came in and did the Joker and they right away knew he was the right person for the job. I'm pretty sure Christmas With the Joker was the first recorded episode featuring the Joker so pretty much for the first few episodes of the Animated Series Mark had to mimic Tim Curry's lines and movement as the animation was already done but after this Mark was able to make the character his own from changing stuff around to coming up with his own movement and personality.
You guys knowledge of this series is outstanding!! I do love Time Curry but boy am I glad that Mark landed the job!! He aced it!! Thank you so much for sharing 🦇
They also took different voice actors for Origins because they wanted younger voices for the characters. I love that the voice actor fo Batman in that one is the one who plays Chris Redfield in like every Resident Evil game and animated movie. He makes such a good younger and angrier Batman. I love it.
Holy crap yesss!!!! Both u and another are beginning one of my favorite series!!! Hope ya have fun with it n definitely will be thumbs up-ing all of them!!!😄🙌🏽
Thank you for taking on another of the very small handful of games I've ever played (discovered your channel through Alien Isolation, which is ... er, the other game I've ever played)! Can't wait to see how you react to the 'scary' stuff (I'll say no more for fear of spoilers). Have a great play!
Alien Isolation... what a game. I never thought I would be able to get through that 😂 TBH Stew, I've not played many games either 😄 Hope you're having a good day 🦇
Hey Jonesy, I’m so excited to be finally watching you play through the Batman Arkham series! You’re gonna have a great time! Some small pieces of advice: - Destroy the chattering joker teeth wherever you find them. They’re worth about 50XP each. - Once you string someone up with an inverted takedown you can take them down again by cutting the rope with your Batarang. But be careful, if the bad guys are nearby they will know which direction you threw your Batarang from and will target you and shoot at you. So throw it then get the heck outta there! Also, there’s no need to do a “hang “ before performing an inverted takedown. It’s an optional move. Just press triangle. - If you ever get stuck, just look up. ☝🏻 - Familiarize yourself with the quickfire buttons on your controller. They’ll save your butt. - Use your detective vision to scan your surroundings for bad guys and to find clues on how to progress. You will have to deal with Killer Croc later in the game. I found the boss fight so intense that afterwards I had to stop playing for a bit because my hands were shaking so much that I couldn’t continue playing. 😬 Yes, Mark Hamill is the voice of the Joker. He’s voiced the character for over 20 years in both these games and the Batman animated series. But what’s even more incredible is that the word Arkham is in his name…mARK HAMill. He stopped doing the voice shortly after the death of Kevin Conroy because he didn’t want to continue doing it without his best friend and partner. 😢 Good luck and have fun! 🦇
gameplay tip; use crouch to hide in corners and sneak up behind enemy to do a silent takedown, it's faster to move while they haven't spotted you and grapple back above. Try doing more stealth takedown, it's meant that way since well, Batman trained with ninjas.
I'm really enjoying your playthrough. The controls are tough to learn and take some time, but once you get used to them you'll find they're actually pretty intuitive and you'll start to wish other games used the same system
@Jonesy if you're playing on Xbox, think of Batman's moves as Attack (x), counter (y), stun (b), and dodge (aa). White lightning bolts mean to counter, red ones mean stun. And then all your gadgets are associated with the top keys. LT is aim, RT is fire etc I know you've already pretty much got that down, it's just how you think about the buttons while you're in a fight. You'll get used to it. By the third game they've got it down solid and you feel like you can do anything as batman
22:47 Riddler trophies, riddles, destroying Joker's gag teeth, collecting patient interview tapes and scanning stone slabs called The Chronicles of Arkham are all sidequests you can do.
Yes you are correct. Joker is voiced by no other than our Luke Skywalker - Mark Hamill. He also voiced Joker in 90s Batman animated series and couple of tie in movies. Kevin Conroy voices Batman and he also voiced Batman in animated series mentioned above. Sadly Kevin passed away last year so R.I.P. Arleen Sorkin voices Harley Quinn and also voiced her again in the animated series. For unknown reason she didn't return to the role in Arkham City and forward games. She was replaced by Tara Strong.
I played this year's ago when it first released, back in 2009, had a blast. This one really leans into the creep factor, more so than the sequels because of the isolated location, indoor claustrophobic environments. Despite Arkham City being a perfect sequel, Arkham Knight less so, they didn't have nearly as many creepy, horror game type instances as this original. Back in 09, my cousin was plating through the Killer Croc section and was legit freaked out like she was playing Dead Space or RE4. I replayed it a few years back with my girlfriend watching, who has no knowledge of Batman whatsoever and she actually helped me 100 percent the game with collecting all the trophies, solving the riddles etc. Back in 2009, I was much too ADHD to 100 percent games like this like my old ancient self is now, Lol. I hope youll
michael keaton is goated when it comes to batman edit: wait? you didn't know mark hamill voiced the joker? he's been doing it for years since batman the animated series in the early 90's.
@@JonesySpaceCat oh you're in for a treat. the animated series is superb. mark and kevin (rip) are brilliant as joker and batman. i'm glad rocksteady got both of them to do the games as it adds to an already great game.
Hey Jonesy, How are you this Sunday afternoon and I hope you are doing well and I want to wish you a very Happy Mother's Day and I'm on now watching you play Batman: Arkham Asylum and as always I'm really enjoying watching you and your videos have a very Beautiful week and a Happy Mother's Day Thank You Jonesy.😇🌹
I played Batman Akram Aslam back in 2009. It was an amazing & revolutionary game back then. Edit: I recommend playing Arkham Origins after this game, then Arkham City, and Arkham Knight in the End. Origins story is a prequel to Asylum, but its mechanics are advanced. Hence my suggested order is the most reasonable for you to understand the whole story and evolution of gameplay
@@JonesySpaceCat It's midnight here. But thanks for asking. Don't forget this. It's based on a long experience & complete understanding of the Arkham series storyline.
So far your first try of this game has been pretty impressive, most TH-camrs just suck at playing this game, I think because they’re playing an “old” game, I played this game first came out in 2009 and 9 year old me can play circles around these Gen Z TH-camrs. I’m able to complete the entire story including collecting the riddler trophy’s and riddles that I’ve memorised before the game actually ends and have perfected the combat of this game. So far I’m happy to see you’re playing this game well. Here’s some tips for you: * To increase combos, move your analog stick in the direction you want to attack an inmate, evade over an inmate or away to get a breather. * Always pay attention to the tips the game is giving regarding the gameplay, it’s there for a reason as the gameplay is complex yet simple at the same time * Double tapping the batarang and batclaw makes things easier, especially the batarang when smashing joker teeth and when up against titan monsters and other villains coming up * Never be afraid of taking your time in predator sections and using gadgets as well, such as the batclaw to pull down henchmen from walkways and falling straight to the ground knocking them out, and the explosive gel on weak walls, only TH-camr who failed at this is Suzy Lu who didn’t have a fucking clue on how to use it properly. I’m looking forward to seeing you progress in this game, which is my favourite of all time, played it when it first came out in 2009. Please do this game justice compared to the other TH-camrs that play this great game like absolute shit (looking at you Suzy Lu), only person that played the game the best is LiteWeight Gaming, let’s hope you’re another gamer who’s played this game well.
haha no pressure for me then😄 I will do my absolute best to do the game justice, I promise you that! I don't think I have explosive gel yet... do I? Thank you for all the hints and tips 🦇 🙌LiteWeitght is my Gal 🙌
@Jonesy absolutely. They get better as they go on. But this game is different compared to the rest. It's more of a horror game than the others. However the stories and narration of the trilogy is amazing. You will definitely enjoy them.
Nice episode. Finally a game series I can get behind. Arkham Asylum is the only Batman game I've completed and I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially with Mark Hamil doing the voice of The Joker. Mark done a top job with Joker, getting the manic ,funny but threatening aspects of his personality on point. Combat is obviously the high point in the game for me. The countering mechanic allows for very fluid combat and you can rack up some really lengthy combos, if you keep your wits about you. As a side note I hope you are enjoying Horizon Forbidden West that you are playing in your free time. Sorry that I haven't been watching your content recently, as GTA 4 really is not my bag. I should thank you for putting Miranda in my view, as I've been enjoying her Ghost of Tsushima and Jedi survivor let's play series a lot. As always love you lots.🥰
OMG Mark Hamil as the Joker is chef kiss!! I don't know who got him that job but they should be knighted!! 😂 It's absolutely fine, I totally understand that some playthroughs wont be everyone's cuppa tea ☕ I've not had much time for HRW of late, but I've been really enjoying the combat side of it. Super fun! Miranda is a gem and I'm even happier that you're enjoying her playthroughs! Hope you're well Phil and having a great weekend 😄
@@JonesySpaceCat I really love the way she approaches her gaming. There is something about her that makes me smile whilst she's killing Mongols and Stormtroopers.😂
@@JonesySpaceCat Mark voiced the Joker first in the cartoon series made in 1992. It was the Joker voice many at that time grew up with and shaped much of how we see the Joker today. There's a few interesting vids around you could look at where he does famous speeches "as the joker" and it is amazing!
Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill voice Batman and Joker they voiced the characters for thirty years until Kevin's tragic passing which actually broke my heart his death was a rough one I just hope he knew how much he loved he will always be the definitive Batman
The way you gush over Joker lol. I can already tell that you are going to absolutely love Arkham Origins. It isn't Mark in that game it's Troy Baker but the Jokereeness of it has me singing along with him.
Enjoy the game! Asylum has by-far the best atmosphere in the series. Hope you play the other Arkham games in the series, this series is an absolute masterpiece.
Batman games! Hell yes! Michael Keaton's Batman is favorite too. I've been through bad life threatening situation and I'm very happy to be back online and very excited to see you playing the phenomenal Batman games! 🎉
Easter morning 4am,a guy broke into my house and put a gun to my head, and said he was going to kill me. Luckily my brother was staying at house that night and distracted him. We ended up retrieving the guy with the gun and called the police which actually came pretty fast. And thank you,it feels better to be able to put that behind me.
1:26 Chronological Speaking is the second one, Publication wise is the first one. (BONUS: If we count spin-off, the first product in the Arkhamverse published is the one-shot comic the road to arkham (which is a direct prequel to arkham asylum), and then the game itself.
34:10 -- a wise decision. The Dark Knight would be proud. In the animated series, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill brought Batman and Joker to a whole new level! Many of us comic book fans hear the characters in *their* voices, when we read the Batman comics.
Thank you. I hate making decisions😂 I have the comics on my "to get" list and I think when I'm done with the games I will defo jump into the animated series 🦇
Seriously! Spiderman PS4, Shadow of War, Mad Max and Sleeping Dogs to name a few took so much from Arkham! And it shows, those games are incredibble in there own right thanks to Arkham!
@@saintpatrick7673 for years god of war the top hoard hack and slash was the “strand game” that everyone was trying to make, and when arkham came out everyone wanted a 3 button combat game
So yh Riddler's quest is the only side mission of this game there are many more in the other three. Riddler secrets give you extra XP for faster upgrades. And yes teeth are Riddler secrets. Many trophies require gadgets you won't get until later in the story. You have to backtrack to each building to get 100%.
Ohhh man Jonesy, STRAP THE FUCK IN. The Arkham trilogy is a wild ride for the ages. Shoutout to Kevin Conroy (RIP) and Mark Hamill for coming back from the 90s animated series to voice Batman and Joker. My favorite part, I think, is Joker lowkey rooting for Batman vs his own henchmen. Classic Joker! And my favorite part of this video is you highkey crushing on Joker 😆Can't wait to see the rest of the game!!!
I've only played Arkham Knight, but thought it to be a great game. Very much looking forward to this playthrough. Thanks, Jonesy! I hope you're have a great day! Also, I'm a Keaton man as well!
Holy shi- 35:55 You are officially an honorable member of the r/BatmanArkham community, welcome sister! ("officer balls" is a running joke/meme in our community)
Try to drop down and silent takedown the guys with guns, glide kicking makes noise so the others will hear, so you can glide kick the last one left smash him up 😂. And when fighting when the blue symbol thing pops up over their heads it means you can press triangle to counter, will come in handy when you’re fighting more than 5 plus guys at once, and as others have said once you get that down you feel like a badass 😂. Enjoying the play through so far jonesy excited for more, for your first time you’re not doing too bad, can only get better! 👊
NANANANANANANA BATJONESY!!!!! Also. I've never seen you smile as much as you did early on in this video. And yes. Mark Hammil is indeed voicing Joker in this game. And Batman by the late Kevin Conroy
Batman never kills his enemies unless he's left with no other choice. In the comics he nearly crossed that line multiple times but he always manages to pull himself back.. 😊🦇
Love these games Kevin Conroy and mark Hamill are amazing as Batman & joker especially Mark other than Heath ledger he’s the best Joker imo, they did the animated series together , Justice League shows, Batman beyond etc that whole network of shows was great
@@JonesySpaceCat it’s really well done and still holds up today it’s mainly the voice acting that does it along with some of the deep stories they do there all on HBO max, Justice league , Justice league unlimited , Batman beyond , static shock
Enjoy reading the character bios. Some of the interview tapes flush out this game's story while the messages left by the 'Spirit of Arkham' are setting up the next game. Plans are a foot.
Finally I can see Jonesy content again 🤩! Last I saw was Returnal!!! Haven't played GTA IV so didn't watch that!!! 😅 Doc's were gona diagnose me with Space-Cat Deficiency!!! BTW loved all the Niko Cosplays Edits!!! 0:27 - My Batman is Kevin Conroy!!! RIP!! 😔 1:20 - This is the first one! Released in 2009! Still looks awesome!! 1:56 - Yes!! Be wary of those Hitchhikers! Love the dry wit of this game! 3:12 - It blew my mind that Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) is voice of Joker! Not just here but the whole animated series! But lot of respect 🙌 to Hamill, he wont return as voice Joker; since his partner in crime Kevin Conroy passed away! It wont be the same! 8:27 - Just 2 Guards to escort Croc!!! I wouldn't wanna be them!!! 13:16 - So this game-play style became the blueprint 📘 for modern day super hero games like Spider-Man!!! 😍 14:20 - This game is pickups central!!! So many Pickups .... ❔🕷💿(🤡🦷) ..... 240 in total!!! 😍 19:31 - Why 🤔 on earth are there Gargoyles inside the building! Video-Game-Logic! 🤣 34:09 - Inverted takedown was my first choice as well!!! BTW ... Spider-Man mechanics are heavily influenced by these Arkham Games!
Ah dude, if you can I would defo recommend playing GTA4. Its an absolute riot. Thank you, I've had a lot of fun with the thumbnails 😂 Hope you've been keeping well 🦇
Well I imagine you're hyped to see Keaton back again. It's like getting the beatles back together for one last album in their elderly years. Keaton is king of live action Batmen
HELL YES! What a great surprise Jonesy!! Each game in the Arkham trilogy get better and better! The combat system makes you feel like such a badass! Cant wait for more! 🙌
Woo! When I eventually get into the TH-cam space, my first game to play will be Freedom Fighters from IO interactive. Great game, I recommend after GTA 4. It is a PS2, era game, so forgive its old school charm, but has a great story. Available on Steam still I believe.
Holy batgirl Arkham + jonesy = chaotic perfection for a Sunday 🙌 it's got platinum stasis all over it, had to stop Zelda so I could watch my favourite content creator 🤘🌺💜🦇
Probably writing the bible of controls for this game, but I hope it will help you: The game is devided into 2 big sections, the Combat Encounters (Fight) and Predator Encounter (stealth), after make this clear we go to the tips. Combat Encounter: I saw a lot of Button smashing from you (don't worry, for fist timers is very normal, and mostly Spider-Man's foult). What you have to know is that only button smashing like spider-man won't work, since in Batman there isn't any auto-correction, so, what you have to do is, move to the subject you want to attack, not doing this will resulti in Batman punching air. You can do this very slow, you have just to follow a rythm, since you played Spider-man you should probably understand what I mean, even so don't worry about enemies, if you remember correctly in Spider-Man, when an enemy does attack you, their heads will glow to advice you to evade, there is a similar thing in arkham, while an enemy is attacking you, will appear blue lightings on his head, when this happens press triangle, this will oppen you an opportunity to attack without breacking your combo. If you find a lot of enemies and you start to panic, just evade, it won't break your combo the first time you do it. Now explaining how combo works, the combo to start has to reach a value of X3, after this every thug you hit will istantly fall, so you have to combine attack and the takedown (R2+Triangle), but be careful, the takedown CAN'T BE ABORTED, so it means that this action will leave you open to attacks. For the Basics I think should be enough. Predator Encounter: so what I saw is that you misanderstood the glide cick as something the game tells you to do, instead is simply something tha game tells you COULD do IF YOU WANT, but you can clear the room only doing silent takedowns, the upgrade you bought, the Inverted Takedown, can be done without the need to hang from gargoyle, you have just to wait an enemy to pass under the gargoyle, but you have to know that this isn't stealthy, there are infact 2 different takedowns, the silent ones are the stealthy ones, and then every takedown or K.O. that not have silent in the name will get the enemies attention. For now it's enough. if you want to see someone play to give you an idea, just watch The Arkham Channel or Batman series videos walktroughs on youtube they are the best, just don't go too far away we don't want you to spoil this amazing game. BONUS: in this section giving you some understanding of Batman' character, Since you sayed that you're Batman is Micheal Keaton, you were (and it's normal) very confused about Batman's action in the opening of this game, so bit of explaining. Thiis Batman is more faithful to the comics than Keaton, for istance Batman has a no-killing rule, meaning he doesn't kill, that's why at 32:45 Batman doesn't do anything, and you can see it with detective mode that after you punch or do silent takedown to a guy will say Unconscious and not deceased, he also has that deep voice, just becouse Batman is that kind of guy who has everything planned and know what you would do 1 hour maybe days, years from now, so he's kind of bored since this game is set in his 10th year of career (2021), he has contigency plans to defeat the Justice League (Superman and Wonder Woman included), but he don't have one from Joker, this is becouse Joker is so insane and unpredictable that even Batman (who in comics and in the Arkhamverse is the World's Greatest Detective) can't predict, that's why even if joker at 8:55 - 9:17 DID tell him that something was gonna happen, Batman only had the feeling and didn't predict his escape you can have confirmation listening to Batman's words here 26:07, that's also why Joker is considered an extreme level treath. The Boss fight died of hearth attack, you can read it trough Detective Mode. Think I sayed enough hoping to have helped you with the plot and gameplay, oh and read the bio during the walkttrough, it's a great way to see what you think of the charachters backstories.
Wow you know this game!! Blimey! I hope I can do it justice. It will take me a while to get use to the buttons, playing multiple games over different platforms they all get a bit jumbled Thank you SO much for all this info. Hope you're having a great day 🦇
so glad to see you finally taking on the arkham series, you know i got some tips for you 😃😃 i know you hate maps but the map will be very helpful, refer to it a lot when you don't know where to go. and detective mode is your very best tool, use both of them frequently especially detective mode. as soon as you go through a door/enter a new area, tap detective mode and it will tell you if and how any enemies are in that area. most of the time its better to use R2 to crouch while walking around, its faster than walking and more controllable than running, but most importantly it is quieter allowing you to sneak better for easier silent takedowns for combat, use counter (triangle) EVERY time you see the "flash" over an enemies head, 98 times out of 100 it's more important to counter than it is to attack, even if you're in the middle of a button mashing beat down, stop punching and try to counter if you see the 'flash' then go back to beating them up lol also a quick tap, i usually double tap its more reliable, of L2 will throw a bat-a-rang at whatever your screen is facing, like the chattering teeth, no need to hold aim just put them generally in the center of your screen and quickly tap L2, only saves you a little time on stuff like that but the quick bat-a-rang will become a necessity for some later enemies so might as well get used to using it. one last thing, if you see riddler trophies or item pickups and you ask yourself "how do i get that?" then chances are you don't have the required tool, don't sweat it you can always come back to any place that has a trophy btw great choice on your first upgrade, i see so many people wait to buy the inverted takedown but its usually the very first thing i buy, very useful in the rooms full of armed men lol anyway, glad you finally made it around to another one of my all time favorite series, i'm excited to get to watch this since i couldn't watch your gta iv playthrough because its the only gta game that i somehow still have not played yet :(
ROCKN!!! Its so nice to see you back in the comments again! I hope you've been keeping well! haha you know I'm very chaotic, but I'll get there! Thank you so much for all the advice. I'll defo try and keep it all in mind! Hope you're having a great week 🦇
@@JonesySpaceCat yep 😄 i'm still around, atm stuck with a crappy laptop that i don't like to use so i mostly just watch youtube on my ps5 and fuk typing out one of my comments on that lol but when i saw you were diving into arkham i had to come comment and throw you some starter tips. i may not comment on every video of it but i'll definitely be watching this series, maybe throw you some more tips here and there if you need 'em 😄hope you're liking it and plan to play the other games as well, they're all awesome
Yeah lol Mark Hammil has been plyaing Joker since 1992 alongside Kevin Conroy (RIP) in the animated series by Bruce Timm! Speaking of Bruce Timm though, the animated series is actually what Harley Quinn originated from, not the comics not the movies, she was invented by Bruce Timm in the animated series as the quirky companion to Mark Hammil's Joker!
Dunna Dunna Dunna Dunna 🦇.... sorry Holy Jumpers Batman... sorrryy! Adam West was my first Batman, OMG that show was so funny. I will never forget the wall climbs and famous cameos at the windows. Also reminded me of Kenny Everett using the wall climb special effect 😆 for a short Spiderman sketch where he's busting for a pee... check it out... Classic. This game blew me away on the PS3. The combat is so satisfying and the stealth. Also Mark Hamil as the Joker 🤯🤯🤯👏👏👏 You're gonna love this game Jonesy. "Are we still following bad breath?"😶🌫️JSC
Welcome to the Arkham games. You will definitely enjoy them Tip/s: Learn to use the quickfire batarang. It makes taking out the teeth a lot easie . Using the quickfire instead of having to aim for each one saves time and patience. Riddler maps that will appear further in the story gives away the location of the riddles. If u dont want the locations given avoid them Dont blindly run into a new area. Double check if there are inmates, armed or not. Don't button mash in combat. There is a method to every fight. You'll get used to it. For additional practice in combat, do the challenge maps that are unlocked the more riddles are collected.
@Jonesy I was laughing and screaming "No, no, no wait!" at my phone at the same time when u ran into the corridor blindly. Ur welcome. U can run and quickfire batarang while running to get the teeth that are in the wide open areas. That is an option but requires muscle memory to remember. For corridors just stand still near the teeth and quickfire using the button on ur controllers. Yeah you will miss a few times, but it is less tedious than having to select batarang and then try to aim Have fun regardless. This game is awesome.
Wow, been a minute since I played this, but damn did I play the heck out of it. This is the first game where you really feel like batman. Good choice. TIPS: There are a lot of Riddler trophies (green glowing "?"). Any vent you can reach can be opened. Hint hint, you missed one in the first room you fought in. They give you XP too. Unlock the X2 combo and the rest of the combo stuff. When doing combos, after the 3rd hit, you can start attacking long range. At some point, when Batman does a ground and pound move, he'll land wrong and instead will pound his giant batman hamfist right into the thugs anus. Thug's little leg pops up when he does it. It's fucking hilarious, and horrible. Enjoy. Have fun. You did Bloodborne. This will be cake.
If you get a chance and are able to find it you should definitely check out the 90’s cartoon Batman the Animated Series Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and the voice actor of Harley Quinn, can’t remember her name lol, all originally were in the show before voicing them in the Arkham games
Good choice Jonesy. Darker than GTA but with less swear words. Also I just watched the 1967 Adam West Batman film just a couple of days ago where Robin solved one of the Riddlers riddles. How do you divide 18 apples between 17 people. Make Apple sauce 😄
Yay Jonsey so happy your playing Batman Arkham Asylum. R.I.P Kevin Conroy the voice actor of Batman for Batman the Animated series Superman the Animated Series Batman Beyond Static Shock Justice League/Justice League Unlimited. All of these shows take place in the same Universe Injustice Gods Amongs Us 1 and 2 Plus 80% of the DC Animated movies. Really hope you play Arkham City, Knight, and the upcoming Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League thats Conroys final time voicing Batman before he passed away. The game is set 5 years after Arkham Knight Also yes Mark Hamill has voiced Joker for as long as Kevin Conroy was the voice of Batman. Originally Warner Brothers was going to have Tim Curry voice Joker but he was turned down for being "To Scary" Also dont worry as you go through the game character bios will appear in the menu explaining their backstory and some of the inmates will have interview recordings you can find to add to the spooky nature of the game To answer your question yes there are collectibles. Riddler got loose and he laid all these riddles and challenges around Arkham Island if you find all his trophies and solve them all. Not only will you get bonus character bios on characters that arent in the game. You'll also find Riddler Also the reason as to why he didnt knock Joker off the platform. Is simply because Batman WILL NEVER KILL under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
WoW Kevin really did a LOT of Batman voice work. Thank you so much for sharing that with me! If the series does well they I don't see why I wouldn't play the other games. for sure 😊 Thank you!
@Jonesy No problem also if you would like a good read that answers the question "Why doesn't Batman or Superman Kill The Joker?" There's a good book that'll answer that question. Kingdom Come was made in 1996 by Mark Waid and art by Alex Ross. It's a 4 issue Elseworlds mini-series set in a dark future so it isn't canon. An audio adaptation of it is on TH-cam with a full cast of voice actors, music, and sound effects. It's also set to the comic. Really recommend checking out Kingdom Come
New game from my favorite TH-camr!! You’re playing the right way Jonesy, later on you’ll do much much better! Don’t bother too much on collectibles on these games Jonesy, specially the question marks ?, you’ll know why! I finished these games a couple of months ago and I’m exited to watch them play! Until the next episode Jonesy 🫶🏼
Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are voicing their characters just as they did in Batman: The Animated Series. Harley is the original voice actor from the series, at least in this one. Tara Strong replaces her afterward tho
Arkhamverse:
Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009)
Batman: Arkham City (2011)
Batman: Arkham Origins (2013)
Batman: Arkham Knight (2015)
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2024)
for a Jedi you know an awful lot about Batman 😂
Thank you SO much for sharing all of this. I will defo look into the animated series and I have the Batman graphic novels on my Amazon wish list.
Hope you're having a great day 🦇
Assault on Arkham animated film is also set in Arkhamverse. There are also comics set within it.
@@JonesySpaceCatDid you ever see the Batman animated series from the 90’s? Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill’s performance were AWESOME!

Feel free to look at the bios during gameplay especially if you aren’t familiar with the world of Batman. A lot of Arkham fans, including me, love to watch new players learn about all the twisted characters and backstories as they go.
This. This is why I came to the comments. It's fun to see new fans learn about the lore

Thank you so much!

6:04 Kevin Conroy was the main Batman voice for 30 years until he died last November. Him and Mark Hamill have been Batman and Joker since Batman The Animated Series in the 90's.
RIP Kevin!!
It so great that they maintained the same voice for the entire series. Also spanning 30 years!!! Incredible 🙌🦇
It’s amazing to see someone just getting into these games these days. I see you made series for all the Arkham games, that’s so awesome. Looking forward to working through them all and seeing how you felt about things as you went. 👍🏻

Ah awesome, thank you!

I love it.
Seeing gamers in awe of Killer Croc as he comes out of the elevator for the first time never gets old

@@JonesySpaceCat Not that it's a competition or anything, but I bet you've played more than me!
Hey Jonesy,
I’m so excited to be finally watching you play through the Batman Arkham series! You’re gonna have a great time! Some small pieces of advice:
- Destroy the chattering joker teeth wherever you find them.
- Familiarize yourself with the quickfire buttons on your controller.
Yes, Mark Hamill is the voice of the Joker. 😢
Good luck and have fun! 🦇
Thank you Brian! 🦇
I will defo try and remember all this advice for sure!!
RIP Kevin
Yeah, Batman! This game's a masterpiece, hope you have a good time with it!
thank you Kyles!
Hope you're having a great day 🦇
*YES.* This is a phenomenal series. Really looking forward to this.
Me too!! 🦇
gameplay tip;
use crouch to hide in corners and sneak up behind enemy to do a silent takedown, it's faster to move while they haven't spotted you and grapple back above. Try doing more stealth takedown, it's meant that way since well, Batman trained with ninjas.
ah awesome, thank you so much for the advice 😄🦇😄
@@JonesySpaceCat no problem, it just irked me a bit when i see new players not crouching haha, it is an understandable mistake
So many vents everywhere. Great stealth and glad kicks are key.👌
I'm really enjoying your playthrough. The controls are tough to learn and take some time, but once you get used to them you'll find they're actually pretty intuitive and you'll start to wish other games used the same system
Awesome, thank you Grisslox 🦇
It always takes me a hot minute to learn buttons as I'm always playing Xbox, PS and Nintendo 😂
@Jonesy if you're playing on Xbox, think of Batman's moves as Attack (x), counter (y), stun (b), and dodge (aa).
White lightning bolts mean to counter, red ones mean stun.
And then all your gadgets are associated with the top keys. LT is aim, RT is fire etc
I know you've already pretty much got that down, it's just how you think about the buttons while you're in a fight. You'll get used to it. By the third game they've got it down solid and you feel like you can do anything as batman
9:24 You just knew the "Joker was going to kill him after "Joker's response. 🤗
Always great to see another newcomer check out the Arkham series. By far my favourite depiction of Batman.
I have fallen hard for these games 😊
22:47 Riddler trophies, riddles, destroying Joker's gag teeth, collecting patient interview tapes and scanning stone slabs called The Chronicles of Arkham are all sidequests you can do.
Ah awesome, thank you for letting me know! 🦇
The voice acting in this game is AMAZING!! 🙌🦇🙌
As a fellow ADHD'er I can completely understand

So far your first try of this game has been pretty impressive, most TH-camrs just suck at playing this game, I think because they’re playing an “old” game, I played this game first came out in 2009 and 9 year old me can play circles around these Gen Z TH-camrs. I’m able to complete the entire story including collecting the riddler trophy’s and riddles that I’ve memorised before the game actually ends and have perfected the combat of this game. So far I’m happy to see you’re playing this game well. Here’s some tips for you:
* To increase combos, move your analog stick in the direction you want to attack an inmate, evade over an inmate or away to get a breather.
* Always pay attention to the tips the game is giving regarding the gameplay, it’s there for a reason as the gameplay is complex yet simple at the same time
* Double tapping the batarang and batclaw makes things easier, especially the batarang when smashing joker teeth and when up against titan monsters and other villains coming up
* Never be afraid of taking your time in predator sections and using gadgets as well, such as the batclaw to pull down henchmen from walkways and falling straight to the ground knocking them out, and the explosive gel on weak walls, only TH-camr who failed at this is Suzy Lu who didn’t have a fucking clue on how to use it properly.
I’m looking forward to seeing you progress in this game, which is my favourite of all time, played it when it first came out in 2009. Please do this game justice compared to the other TH-camrs that play this great game like absolute shit (looking at you Suzy Lu), only person that played the game the best is LiteWeight Gaming, let’s hope you’re another gamer who’s played this game well.
haha no pressure for me then😄
I will do my absolute best to do the game justice, I promise you that!
I don't think I have explosive gel yet... do I?
Thank you for all the hints and tips 🦇

arguably the best batman game, considering they all change drastically after this.
are the others still worth playing?

52:59 Joker doesn't care whether Batman beats up his men or they kill Batman. He's having fun either way.
😄🦇😄
Love these games Kevin Conroy and mark Hamill are amazing as Batman & joker especially Mark other than Heath ledger he’s the best Joker imo, they did the animated series together , Justice League shows, Batman beyond etc that whole network of shows was great
I need to see this animated series 🙌🦇🙌
@@JonesySpaceCat it’s really well done and still holds up today it’s mainly the voice acting that does it along with some of the deep stories they do there all on HBO max, Justice league , Justice league unlimited , Batman beyond , static shock
Enjoy reading the character bios. Some of the interview tapes flush out this game's story while the messages left by the 'Spirit of Arkham' are setting up the next game.
Plans are a foot.
Thank you Christian 🦇
Finally I can see Jonesy content again 🤩! Last I saw was Returnal!!!
Haven't played GTA IV so didn't watch that!!! 😅
Doc's were gona diagnose me with Space-Cat Deficiency!!!
BTW loved all the Niko Cosplays Edits!!!
0:27 - My Batman is Kevin Conroy!!! RIP!! 😔
1:20 - This is the first one!
14:20 - This game is pickups central!!! So many Pickups .... ❔🕷💿(🤡🦷) ..... 240 in total!!! 😍
19:31 - Why 🤔 on earth are there Gargoyles inside the building! Video-Game-Logic! 🤣
34:09 - Inverted takedown was my first choice as well!!! BTW ... Spider-Man mechanics are heavily influenced by these Arkham Games!
Ah dude, if you can I would defo recommend playing GTA4. Its an absolute riot.
Thank you, I've had a lot of fun with the thumbnails 😂
Hope you've been keeping well 🦇
Well I imagine you're hyped to see Keaton back again. It's like getting the beatles back together for one last album in their elderly years. Keaton is king of live action Batmen
yay! I can't wait 🙌
@@JonesySpaceCat 🙌 Give us your thoughts after you see it!
Cool! People always praise this game (series). Curious to see what all the fuss is about. 😉
SAME!! 🦇
HELL YES! What a great surprise Jonesy!! Each game in the Arkham trilogy get better and better! The combat system makes you feel like such a badass! Cant wait for more! 🙌
Well technically a quadrilogy but next year is becomes a hexalogy (6 game series)
Thank you! I really can't wait to get stuck into the series 🦇
Woo! When I eventually get into the TH-cam space, my first game to play will be Freedom Fighters from IO interactive. Great game, I recommend after GTA 4. It is a PS2, era game, so forgive its old school charm, but has a great story. Available on Steam still I believe.
I cant play games via Steam as my PC is kinda old. 😭
@@JonesySpaceCat I trust you will find a way eventually. :) Keep doing you and building your TH-cam empire. Yes, those were Star Wars references. lol
These are my batman and joker: kevin conroy and mark hamill, loved them since i first heard them in 92 in btas
I can see why! They are bloody brilliant! 🦇🙌🦇
Holy batgirl Arkham + jonesy = chaotic perfection for a Sunday 🙌 it's got platinum stasis all over it, had to stop Zelda so I could watch my favourite content creator 🤘🌺💜🦇
Thank you Sean!
Hope you enjoyed this one... now get back to Zelda!!! 🦇
Absolutely did enjoy it 🙌 it's one them you forget just how good it was thank you Catwoman
37:22 Definitely sounded like he said: He was taken by an officer named Jake's balls 😂🤗
BALLS 😂
This game is warm up for Arkham City the second game is even more awesome 😁
Hi Jonsey! This is my favorite Batman game! Hope you play the second one later, Arkham City.
Oh for sure!!! 🦇
Hope you're having a great day
Probably writing the bible of controls for this game, but I hope it will help you:
The game is devided into 2 big sections, the Combat Encounters (Fight) and Predator Encounter (stealth), after make this clear we go to the tips.
It will take me a while to get use to the buttons, playing multiple games over different platforms they all get a bit jumbled
Thank you SO much for all this info.
Hope you're having a great day 🦇
Just back from a fantastic holiday and what better way to chill out with my favourite lady youtuber awesome ❤
Ah welcome home!
@Jonesy thanks i grew up watching adam west and burt ward the original and greatest batman and robin looking forward to this playthrough 👍
so glad to see you finally taking on the arkham series, you know i got some tips for you 😃😃
i know you hate maps but the map will be very helpful, refer to it a lot when you don't know where to go. and detective mode is your very best tool, use both of them frequently especially detective mode. as soon as you go through a door/enter a new area, tap detective mode and it will tell you if and how any enemies are in that area.
most of the time its better to use R2 to crouch while walking around, its faster than walking and more controllable than running, but most importantly it is quieter allowing you to sneak better for easier silent takedowns
for combat, use counter (triangle) EVERY time you see the "flash" over an enemies head, 98 times out of 100 it's more important to counter than it is to attack, even if you're in the middle of a button mashing beat down, stop punching and try to counter if you see the 'flash' then go back to beating them up lol
also a quick tap, i usually double tap its more reliable, of L2 will throw a bat-a-rang at whatever your screen is facing, like the chattering teeth, no need to hold aim just put them generally in the center of your screen and quickly tap L2, only saves you a little time on stuff like that but the quick bat-a-rang will become a necessity for some later enemies so might as well get used to using it.
one last thing, if you see riddler trophies or item pickups and you ask yourself "how do i get that?" then chances are you don't have the required tool, don't sweat it you can always come back to any place that has a trophy
btw great choice on your first upgrade, i see so many people wait to buy the inverted takedown but its usually the very first thing i buy, very useful in the rooms full of armed men lol
anyway, glad you finally made it around to another one of my all time favorite series, i'm excited to get to watch this since i couldn't watch your gta iv playthrough because its the only gta game that i somehow still have not played yet :(
🙌🔥🙌
Batman doesn't kill people, that's why he didn't knock Joker off the cage. It's a pretty big theme of this series
Ah right, good to know!
Thank you 😊🦇
😂Joker phrase "The healing power of LAUGHTER".
He's not wrong!
Dunna Dunna Dunna Dunna 🦇.... sorry
Holy Jumpers Batman...
Also Mark Hamil as the Joker 🤯🤯🤯👏👏👏
You're gonna love this game Jonesy.
"Are we still following bad breath?"😶🌫️JSC
Adam West, what a hero!!!
Thank you Shaun. Hope you're having a great day 🦇😊🦇
Welcome to the Arkham games. You will definitely enjoy them
Tip/s:
Learn to use the quickfire batarang. It makes taking out the teeth a lot easie . Using the quickfire instead of having to aim for each one saves time and patience.
Riddler maps that will appear further in the story gives away the location of the riddles. If u dont want the locations given avoid them
Dont blindly run into a new area. Double check if there are inmates, armed or not.
Don't button mash in combat. There is a method to every fight. You'll get used to it. For additional practice in combat, do the challenge maps that are unlocked the more riddles are collected.
Awesome, thank you so much for the advice!!
"Dont blindly run into a new area" I defo learnt this one in this episode 😂
@Jonesy I was laughing and screaming "No, no, no wait!" at my phone at the same time when u ran into the corridor blindly.
Ur welcome.
U can run and quickfire batarang while running to get the teeth that are in the wide open areas. That is an option but requires muscle memory to remember. For corridors just stand still near the teeth and quickfire using the button on ur controllers. Yeah you will miss a few times, but it is less tedious than having to select batarang and then try to aim
Have fun regardless. This game is awesome.
Awesome first part Jonesy!
Thank you Maline 😊
Jonesy SpaceBat, I'm here for this!!!
Yay Rickardo.
Thank you 🦇
You will get new gadgets and upgrades as the story progresses..
Yes excellent Shes playing Batman! And Arkham Origins is the first one but its only played on 360 and ps3
Heck Yeah I Am!! 🙌🦇🙌
@@JonesySpaceCat btw places that you can't access early on you are able to later game.
❤I have good memories of this game, (I've Passed it). Jonesy
Wow, been a minute since I played this, but damn did I play the heck out of it. This is the first game where you really feel like batman. Good choice.
TIPS:
There are a lot of Riddler trophies (green glowing "?").
Ah thank you so much joshua!!
This is super helpful. Hope you're having a great weekend 🦇🙌🦇
51:11 I love that you whisper 😆
If you get a chance and are able to find it you should definitely check out the 90’s cartoon Batman the Animated Series Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and the voice actor of Harley Quinn, can’t remember her name lol, all originally were in the show before voicing them in the Arkham games
YES!!!
I really wanna see the animated series! 🦇
Good choice Jonesy. Darker than GTA but with less swear words. Also I just watched the 1967 Adam West Batman film just a couple of days ago where Robin solved one of the Riddlers riddles. How do you divide 18 apples between 17 people. Make Apple sauce 😄
🙌ADAM WEST🙌
Yay Jonsey so happy your playing Batman Arkham Asylum.
R.I.P Kevin Conroy the voice actor of Batman for
Batman the Animated series
Superman the Animated Series
Batman Beyond
Static Shock
Justice League/Justice League Unlimited. All of these shows take place in the same Universe
Injustice Gods Amongs Us 1 and 2
Plus 80% of the DC Animated movies.
Really hope you play Arkham City, Knight, and the upcoming Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League thats Conroys final time voicing Batman before he passed away. The game is set 5 years after Arkham Knight
Also yes Mark Hamill has voiced Joker for as long as Kevin Conroy was the voice of Batman. Originally Warner Brothers was going to have Tim Curry voice Joker but he was turned down for being "To Scary"
Also dont worry as you go through the game character bios will appear in the menu explaining their backstory and some of the inmates will have interview recordings you can find to add to the spooky nature of the game
To answer your question yes there are collectibles. Riddler got loose and he laid all these riddles and challenges around Arkham Island if you find all his trophies and solve them all. Not only will you get bonus character bios on characters that arent in the game. You'll also find Riddler
Also the reason as to why he didnt knock Joker off the platform. Is simply because Batman WILL NEVER KILL under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
WoW Kevin really did a LOT of Batman voice work. Thank you so much for sharing that with me!
If the series does well they I don't see why I wouldn't play the other games. for sure 😊
Thank you!
AUGUSTO YOU LEGEND!!!
Thank you so much. Hope you're having a great day 🦇
@@JonesySpaceCat if I’m watching you is guaranteed!! Have an awesome day you too 🫶🏼
Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are voicing their characters just as they did in Batman: The Animated Series. Harley is the original voice actor from the series, at least in this one. Tara Strong replaces her afterward tho
the voice acting in this!! 🙌🦇🙌
Welcome to the Batman Arkham trilogy. Hope you will enjoy it the journey. Btw are you Brit? From your accent lol 😂😂 New Subscriber here 🙃
Hi, welcome edwin 🦇
haha yeah I'm very British.
fancy a cuppa tea? 😄☕
Funny tidbit: if you look at Mark Hamill's nane, it spells Arkham-- adds nothing to the game, but it's funny!
🤯🦇🤯
😮
This is the first game in the arkham series great game, combat and the detective work
You can use baterangs on the joker teeth for extra XP points
