I found a brand new Recon 1 in the Tanto blade for $60 at the local pawn shop I wanted one for a while and when I asked the guy how much and he said 60 I yelled out “ I will take it” the best $60 I spent. That knife has cut down small branches for me and have used it to baton wood.
Cold Steel has always made excellent knives and Lyn Thompson is a class act. I just wish they would go back to their American made and Japan made steel and get away from the China influence.
Sadly, the Talwar has indeed been discontinued. My favorite CS knife in my favorite steel (CTS-XHP). Great knife review video -- all opinion and zero stats.
LOVE ME A BIG AZZ KNIFE. 6 TIMES TOTAL I HAD A KNIFE PULLED ON ME . TWICE IN HIGH SCHOOL BACK IN THE MID 80's. Both times they put there 💩 away kuz the BUTTERFLY came out in a blink. The last 4 times in the past 15 yrs or so. They always draw on me first trying to scare me . B.S. I'VE RETURNED EVERY DRAW WITH DRAWING MY OWN 6" or 5 1/2" CS VOYAGER. SPEED & SIZE MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE. B SAFE ,PAY ATTENTION
I love the ease of deployment on my Recon XL Tantos. Just a big ol slab of sharp Aus 8 steel. I consider them to be tactical folders. Fits great in a pistol mag taco.
Just bought my first Cold Steel knife yesterday. I got the Recon 1 spear point S35VN of course. I almost changed my mind a few times since I am a hardcore Benchmade fan. Looked hard at their Mediator model but went with this instead. BUT, at the price point, build quality & the steel I went ahead with the purchase. I wasnt crazy about the Taiwan stamp on it either but time will tell how it works out. Dont let me down CS . It looks like the knife I could brag about on its own merits. I did the research and this model has all of my requirements.
Interesting picks. I do own a Voyager XL Tanto and Drop Point folding knives, and a Counter Point XL. All 3 are for the house. I also have the Large versions for EDC for certain occasions.
They are all great knives and good choices. Personally I would put the Counter Point XL in first, the Rajah II in second because of its chopping ability, the Ti-lite third, the Tanto Voyager in fourth and the Talwar in fifth. The Talwar might place a little higher but I've never actually owned that one so I placed it strictly on looks. It looks amazing and I wish they still sold them. Everyone prefers different styles of knives and that's part of the fun in collecting and seeing other people's collections imo. I'm sure the Espada is probably the most rugged of the bunch but it's never been one I've wanted to invest in. I think the Espada XL is pretty impressive and it's tempted me a few times, basically because of its massive size. I wish Cold Steel would make some of their other designs that large. If they made one with the blade style of the Counter Point or Ti-lite I'd definitely be willing to spend the extra money on it cause they are my favorite blade designs for a pocket sword. I love Cold Steel knives because they are dollar for dollar hard to beat. As cool as that giant Espada is it's hard for me to justify spending that much more for an extra inch and a half of slightly better steel and nicer handle scales. If I had a lot of extra money I'd probably get one just to look at from time to time. It probably wouldn't ever get carried except for in the woods. Even the six inch models are starting to be a little big for EDC and unfortunately they aren't legal to carry here. I find that law to be pretty silly since you can pocket carry a gun. Big knives are just more scary I guess lol. Great video, you have a really nice monster knife collection!
Just picked up the XL Voyager tanto at the beginning of this month during the C S summer sale...I'm seriously impressed...gonna get the snaggletooth Tactical wave opener for it...it'll be my new EDC knife...
Nice set of CS big boys there. I got caught up in a CS 'panic purchase' moment, or two, picking up the recon1 - all black - w/spear point, a code4 w/tanto, a serrated marauder, tuff lite and XL voyager w/tanto. Love them all. Just started watching your vids, enjoy them and have subbed. Happy New Year and enjoy.
Talk about timing. I just purchased the Rajah 2 (again) as I was reading your comment. I think alot of "panic" buying of CS happening. Sold Out is being seen alot. Thanks for the sub. More than CS here. Hope you stay.
My personal favourite knife, let alone favourite big knife is the voyager X2, which reminds me... Imagine this, the voyager X2 but a automatic version... Mind, blown
The G10 Espada is a great knife in the Large version and it easy on the finger prints, although the Aluminum polished version looks so much classier. Try a G 10 Espada in AUS 10 steel. Cool 5 you chose.
Yeah must buy all American knives because that's the trend right, don't worry about your Chinese made device you typed this message on though lol. "I don't buy Chinese" Sent from my Chinese microchips.
I'm 100% with you on that one, not sure what's wrong with these other guys with such a hardon for China. Commies I guess? There's a lot of that going around these days.
In my opinion number 5 is the most balanced blade, do you know why? Because it has a more stable base and it's broader, because of it's rectangular perfect shaped base, this making it very efficient for deep lacerating thrusts. Plus it has the perfect shape to cut a cake. Yummy.
I started out with the pre Triad Lock "Vaquero Grande" folders, what are called Vojager XL today. I am looking for a Rajah II, a TiLite GrivEx in 6" and a G 10 Espada XL, all comming in the next two month. On the hunt for a Talwar XL, Top, maybe I find a used one. I allready have my Luzon XL, great blade. I enjoyed your collection a lot.
@@JohnnyJuke The TiLite in GrivEx / AUS 8a just arrived this morning. It came out of the box razor sharp. Just have to twiddle with it for a while, because it is brand new, everything has to wear in a bit. The blade is beautiful, just one thing is bugging me: there is about 1/8 inch between sharpening choil and where the edge is starting. I am thinking, the edge should go all the way into the choil. The choil is here for nothing but to prevent the ricasso from getting in the way when you sharpen the blade. Its a minor flaw, give me a year and let me sharpen it two times, and everything will be fine. Over all this seems to be a great knife for the money.
Big Cold Steel fan and collector. When I go big, I go fixed, but I have some medium folders. I tried The Spartan, and I loved it, but my hand is too big to grip it with 4 fingers. Love the Recon 1. Thanks for the review.

The Voyager XL Tanto is my ultimate knife, an absolute KILLING MACHINE 👹. The tanto's belly edge would slice you from waist to back spine like butter. Just respect it, if you click it open without enough force and it closes on you it will chop off your finger tips including your FINGERNAILS before you know it! 😃
Sadly that's so true and it happened to me 2 weeks ago today. I was fucking around and it didn't lock.... The blade is so fucking heavy it snapped back and took the tip of my right middle finger and part of my fingernail clean off!!!!!! In fact it was so clean it didn't even hurt! It also got a sliver of my index finger. I'm a professional drummer and so thank god it only took the tip off. I've been around knives my entire life and have been cut before, but I have an ENTIRELY NEW RESPECT for them now. Also, it makes me cringe like a motherfucker now to see guys close their blades with one hand and leave their index finger in the way. It was also incredable gross that when I went back and found the knife laying on the table where it landed.... I flipped it over and my fingertip was stuck on the closed blade.... I almost threw up! I still love the knife though.... It did what it was born to do.... To cut. The XL Voyager Tanto is one badass mother fucker to be sure.
