I keep looking for some sort of alternative to a recon 1 tanto and I've come to the conclusion that the only alternative is another recon 1 tanto.
The recon hits the sweet spot for me with a larger knife that can still reasonably be carried in there pocket (EDC). I tried downsizing to a Benchmade bailout m4 but the blade is so thin I'm always afraid I'll break it. Nobody should feel that way with a tanto hehe.
I wish they made an ad10 or ad15 or lawman in the same tanto as the recon 1. I almost bought a code 4 but I don't think I could get past the slippery scales :(
First thing I did with my AD10 was close it on my forefinger! Cut! Two weeks later, same thing! Cut same place! Now I know better! Best knife I own! Wicked Sharp and soooo comfortable!
Man i love the pocket bushman
I HAVE THE 4 MAX MADE IN ITALY. I ALSO HAVE THE 4 MAX SCOUT, SO FAR THE TOUGHEST AND STRONGEST FOLDERS I'VE EVER HAD, AND I'VE BEEN COLLECTING KNIVES FOR 46 YEARS.
You must have a fantastic collection. My channel is a collection channel. No sponsors or anything sent in. Music and Bushcraft too!
Nice top five! I love it when a knife guy customizes their gear and improves upon solid designs... good on you
the pocket bushman has a major flaw and is about the last knife i would take into the woods.
Nice video. I had the Pocket Bushman 4116 Krupp. I own a SR1 Lite and 4Max Scout. They are nice knives when you can't afford the $100+ versions. But good showing.
The pride of my cold steel collection is a 1998 kukri light carbon V it demands respect
Nice!
my personal favorite folder is the Spartan I love the way it feels in my hand and I've also seen some pretty brutal online torture tests
Great knives ❤️ Cold Steel 👍👍👍👍
Cold steel gets lots of views because no other knife can compete with them for all around best knife.
No it's cuz, if you put one by your front door, you will be a power to reckon with. NO ONE will be able to take advantage of you when you have a knife built by Cold Steel!!
What a joke they don’t even make their own knives there is no such thing as the cold steel forge because it doesn’t exist Lynn Thompson is full of bs every single one of their products are made in some other country they are however pretty well made for the price but I would much rather give an American maker a few. Extra bucks and get a quality American made folder than pay for Lynn Thompson’s hunting trips
John Davis I agree. I would also. I would pay double for an American made knife IF IT WAS COMPARABLE TO COLD STEEL QUALITY, TOUGHNESS AND DURABILITY.
I’m not a Cold Steel “fan boy” even as I’ve bought two models. Cold Steel seems to hit the price/performance ratio for the models of interest. (my)
That Pocket Bushman is one I should have been had
@ my side 4 hard use folders.
I did not know much about the Cold Steel Line of Knives but watching your videos has peaked my interest so I started reading up on them, specifically the knifes you have in your lists.......Blown away by the reviews. I will be getting one now.
They are being scooped up since the company has recently sold.
Agreed with your review. 4 max is my number 1 cold steel folder besides the original Rajah 1.
Good choice!
I like Tanto and Clip points ,now I just need to get them in Cold Steel Recon 1's. The 4Max is in the rite place as #1
This is a pretty dang excellent video. Just today I stopped in at the Cold Steel Plant store in Ventura and picked up a new Air Lite folder. A good size but nice and slip and relatively light weight. I've been playing with it since late afternoon and suddenly now it's doing that "OK, I'm ready to Twist and Shout and open, cut and fall shut." ;-)
Subscribed for cold steel content and fine tuning 👀 very cool
Much more than CS content, but Thanks! I like answering your questions in my videos.
Excellent video Cold Steel is my favourite knife maker what you're paying what you get can't beat them
Hi Johnny! You are doing absolutely fantastic show. Enjoy every issue). 90% agree with your point. Have all these cold steels in my collection. 4 Max is the best. No doubt). Thanks once again for your brilliant program.
At approx. 5:17 you said you make them smooth.
How do you do that? Do you take them apart and sand them or polish the friction points?
See my recent videos. I do it to few of them.
@@JohnnyJukethere is a lot of them. Which ones are you referring to? They are not titled on how "to smooth the action" of a pocket knife.
The Cold Steel Night Force - Any Good? - I Wanna Know! 2020 !!!!
The Cold Steel Voyagers have aluminum liners and CS says its it's one of their Strongest Knives ....👍👍👊
It's nowhere near their strongest folders.. The Spartan, the AD10, the SR1 are all stronger, and their absolutely strongest folder, the 4-Max.
@@LarsBreuning If you Read my comment again , I said "One Of" their Strongest folders , I didn't say "The Strongest" and that comes from A.D. The Voyager "Was" probably #1 or #2 for a long time "Before" those newer folders came out ....
@@brianf9619
This video is from January 2020. At that point in time, all the knives I mentioned, had been in production for years.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the Voyager. :)
Where do you get the Emerson wave attachment for the thumbstud?
PS: Made some research it is name SnaggleTooth.
The one you have is it made of plastic or aluminum? With one do you recommend? Because I will command at least 3 of them and I wanna know what you think of them?
all of your snaggletooth questions are in my recent videos. The Emerson thumb discs I made.
@@JohnnyJuke Can you provide me a link? I didn't find it
Link is the description box or google Snaggletooth Tactical. Be sure to mention my name when you order. Thanks.
I really like to SR1 but in the Tanto version... if they make a Tanto version with serrations, to me, that would be the best hard use knife...
That sounds pretty good!
I gotta get me 5 or 6 of the Snaggletooth joints especially seeing how good it fits is a 4Max type knife , it would probably fit a
AD-10 and AD-15 so I know its a must have in my knife kit , nice work Johnny Juke.
& I don't care for intro's either
well 4real I can't stand um.
Do they come with the wave on the recon 1 now? I have not seen them with that finger stud extension before. I own several recons. Where can I get one like that?
Link at my Recon 1 video.
Where do you buy those "wave" hooks to replace the thumbstuds.... I need some bad.
brianminkc Go to my recon 1 video for the link
Bellissimi.....😍
Tanto blade!!
Thanks for the video and like all your knives.
Just got my 1 st cold steel knife the 4 max scout 62rq and I love it. I bought for a hard use work knife and I think it will be a good knife for that.
I have mostly used cheaper knive for work that do ok but never work them to hard as the can not take as much work or they are to small to get the job done.
I have been using my full tang fixed knives for the heavy work I do on my job sites. But wanted a folder as where I live you can not conceal a fixed blade knife ever for any reason and I mean never or it is a felony.
Sometimes I do not want to be carrying a big fixed blade knife on my bet so this cold steel knife is going to do the trick. In my county where I live you can not carry a knife of any kind that is longer than 3 inches unless you are using it for work or a legitimate recreational perpose like camping or hunting or wood crafting.
I EDC my Emerson Snubby cqc 14 every day and love that it has a full length handle and also my Spyderco Batlestation knife too both good tuff work knives. I like my r2d2 knife it's very sliced but it is not good for hard use. In the woods if I do not want to carry my fixed blade knives and for a folding blade my EnZo with Scandi grind is a tough little work horse knife.
Great comment! I once owned the Enzo Birk 77, but sold it to make room for others. I sometimes wish that I kept everything.
I gotta carry too much shit around already to haul one of those beefcakes. I think I'll stick to my xl voyagers even though they destroy all my pants.
As long as the AL liners are of high quality heat treat/aircraft grade I have full confidence. Plus they’re super thicc
The Voyager has aluminum liners and CS says it's one of their Strongest Folders , and I personally have beat mine up for years with no problems...👍👍
Rajah III has to be there :)
What that wave-like claw on the Recon?
Snaggletooth
What about the AK47 in CTS-HXP steel can't beat it
I sold it with the Lawman, Ultimate Hunter and Code 4 to make some space for others. All in XHP. I know, I know....
@@JohnnyJuke sad day mine has been everything from a hammer to a pry bar to a paper cutter to an actual knife. Best purchase I have made going on 4 years now
Cold Steels are no joke thats why(I really like them!) . Cant wait to hear the new dog house when its done!!! So it looks like your remixing this yourself with software it seems? That software sounds familiar, I think I used it way back in the day for something or another. Awesome cold steels Johnny! And yep as soon as you flaw a fan boy brand forget it, they will be all over you like flies on...well you know lol. Thats what happened to me when I point out flaws that I see on big brands, anymore I tell them no one forced you to watch my video. Its my channel and I am brutally honest. Anywho I love that AD10, I love lock backs. That cold steel finn wolf of mine is the same, dirt cheap and the steel hasnt budged yet with a nick or needed a re-sharpen!!! Thing is a darn beast for the cheap price.
👍👍👍
I was surprised when you said bd1 is your favorite steel
The Pocket Bushman has really been thrashed and the BD1 just asks for more. Kean edge and easy to maintain and polished to a mirror with ease. Whats not to like.
Where did you get the thumb stud on the recon 1 tanto?
Snaggletooth.
Do you have the hollow ground AD10 or the more recent Full Flat Ground?
sturmgewehr70 Hollow
@@JohnnyJuke Any idea who may still have the hollow ground version in stock? BladeHQ shows they have it, but I just called them. The CS rep pulled an example and it was FFG.
sturmgewehr70 Not sure
What accessories do you have for your recon?
Snaggletooth
I could swear I was a Subscriber. What’s going on TH-cam! I love your song I’m a knife nut.
Hey Cark, yes I deleted my previous channel. Don't ask why, suffice it to say Im back. So are you!
Johnny Juke
Okay glad I found you again. I had to go listen to that song Knife nut blues again. It’s so good. I just shared it on 2 Facebook knife groups.
@@carknelson5895 My dream of opening for Nutnfancy lives on! Lol!
Lighting needs to be overhead. Your shadows need work.
Thanks, this is one of my older videos.
The Bush Ranger should have at least made the list ?
Didn’t own it at the time.
The Recon 1 & the Pocket Bushman cannot be considered hard use knives!
Recon 1 standard-issue to Navy Seals srk standard-issue to the Marines
@@travisconrad5035 - I guess they need something to pick their teeth with!
WHAT ???
@@brianf9619
I guess our definition of a hard use knife differs. :)
@@LarsBreuning The pocket bushmaster sure is not a hard use knife.I have one.The 4 Max scout is.
No bush ranger huh? I bet its all round tougher than your pocket bushman
here you go. th-cam.com/video/dxk8MENoBRM/w-d-xo.html
Theirs bigger better knifes from Cold Steel
