It’s crazy how good the inexpensive knives they sell are. I have the Tuff-lite and Pro-lite and both are really well made and have fantastic factory edges.

Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, in my opinion Cold Steel makes quality for all price points and uses. They are hands down the best at melee and general use gear on the market.

I bought my first real big Cold Steel folder in the beginning of the 1990, when the Voyager series was not thought out. It was a Vaquero Grande backlock, with serrated edge. Five years later I couldn't find it, so my younger brother bought me the verry same knife. This second production run had a clip, and a belt sheat.
I loved the Cold Steel fixed blades, and had a decent collection, when my wife decided that I work too much and filed for divorce. She never gave me my blade collection, which contained lots of verry fine Cold Steel blades, at least 5 John Eck military and fighting knifes and other, mostly German stuff like old Puma folders, hunting- and outdoor-knifes, a "White Hunter" and a Automesser.
All I still have from this first collection is a second Puma Automesser I carried in my car, my beloved Trail Master in Carbon V, one of the verry first big Tanto they sold in Germany - and my two Vaquero Grandes.
I am just building a new collection, searching for the original old blades on the used market - and new stuff, because the triad lock is great, and the new folders and fixed blades of Cold Steel are awesome!
A Luzon Large and two ProLite, a tanto and a clip point blade, just came to me. Aiming on a 6" TiLite, and pulling the trigger on a Talwar, this is what is comming in June. Next one will be a G 10 Espada XL. I am a 6"4' guy, I have to have big blades...

I am a Cold Steel fan myself. I have 39 Cold Steel knives (9 folders, 6 fixed blades, 3 machetes, 1 utility, and 20 food prep), as well as other tools. I do want one more machete to make it 40. But my favorite folding knives are the Voyager series (I have the Large Tanto, XL Tanto, Large Drop Point, and XL Drop Point). My second is the Counter Point series (XL and One). Cold Steel, as a company, is hard to match due to their product versatility and pricing. To me, they are the Wal-Mart of the knife world. They have a great deal of products that people can buy for their specific interests. If you can't find something at Cold Steel, then I don't know what can be done. Great video!

I like Cold Steel for 3 reasons:
    1. They are KNIFES, which means they are for cutting and stabing and they try to do this as good as they can, it never is an afterthought
    2. They are made as secure and durable as possible, those are things I want in my knife
    3. They dont apologise for having selfdefense as part of their mindset and I like the goofy cut-test-videos. I may never ram my knife through 3 phonebooks, but I like to see it done.
Btw: you pretty much solde me on the Air lite....

I’m surprised that the edge isn’t given more detail when manufacturers make a knife. Seems like a knife’s most important part would be a good cutting edge. Good for ColdSteel for realizing this. Its good that I have a KME sharpener.

I have owned the 4 inch aluminium handle To Lite model for several months and love it to death! It has become my go-to knife and my daily EDC! I've been collecting knives for 30 odd years and can't understand why I hadn't given this thing if beauty a spin before. Besides the obvious tactical flavouring, I find this knife perfect for ripping through boxes, opening mail, light prying, cutting tape, rope, wire, food the list goes on. It is the perfect modern urban EDC

Another superb review/comparison, DCA! I actually had (and wanted to love) the Cold Steel Finn Wolf, however, my particular sample had a Tri-Ad lock that was almost impossible to disengage. I recently found their Crawford Model 1, which, though a "budget" EDC compared to most in this lineup, has 4116 steel, a liner lock with backup safety lock, GFN scales, and a super - sharp, solid and robust 3.5" blade. Both deployment and disengagement of the liner lock are effortless, and no blade wiggle up/down or right/left. A very nice EDC for the money. Just wondered why CS changed the blade steel from the original version (possibly 4034) to 4116. Thanks again!

Great compilation of Cold Steel products, DCA! I'm a big fan of the AD15 LITE. It's my most robust, sharp and beefy EDC, with that crazy Scorpion lock. The Griv_Ex scales seem nice, not too "rough". The AUS 10A blade is super-sharp, and quite thick as well. And as you mentioned, the lockup on this LITE version is rock-solid by itself, even without the added "security" of the Scorpion lock when in hand! Overall, a very solid alternative to the AD15, IMHO.

Having owned a few Cold Steel folders over the years, while I love my SR1 "tank" (real SR1, not Lite) more than anything else (SR1 feels so balanced in the hand, almost perfect weight distribution), the one thing I dislike the most about them is the pocket clip. Right out of the box, the clip on various models, even though very sturdy, is also so stiff that it's impossible to use the clip "as is". Even after some adjustments, the lethal combination of the clip + handle still manage to destroy the top portion of many of my pockets.

  • @tamgiaonguyen2454

I hope Lynn Thompson and Cold Steel will eventually consider making a more widely available version of the Ti-Lite Kris (probably with S35VN or AUS-10) available to the rest of us, instead of a 2000-piece limited run like the hard-to-find 440C 26SY6. Any chance of that ever happening? I wanted one but couldn't even get ahold of one (so I had to temporarily settle for a Voyager Kris instead). I own the S35VN non-Kris Ti-Lite, and I have to admit it's my second most favorite Cold Steel blade (a second-place tie with SR1 and Frenzy, most favorite still is the Black Talon II). I also wish someday Cold Steel would consider making a Kris folding pocket sword of the same size as the Espada XL. Now that would be a unique piece people would be taking about for a great many years to come.

Wish CS revamped The Recon 1 series(and other models) with less sandpaper-like G10 to slightly smoother G10 especially under the pocket clip. As well as deeper carry low profile pocket clips.

Great knives, I've always wanted a Cold Steel folder, but I can't get over those deep finger grooves, for me they are too restrictive in terms of grip, that protruding part on most models is right where I would place my index finger.

Just like gun grips, I hated those combat finger grips that forced your fingers into their positions. Everyones hands are different, a knife, like a gun , must fit your hand comfortably to be most effective!

"Ton of a great designs they keep in production year over year"... Except my favourite EDC knife Hold Out 3. For some reason they discontinued whole line of 3 inch folders with Hold Out and Recon 1 versions among others.

3:04 AirLite is superior in every way to the Pro Lite. I have both. The Pro Lite feels cheap and deploys slowly. Handles are slippery. Air Lite feels like a Cold Steel version of Benchmade Bugout. One major flow of the Air Lite is the spine on both the blade and release -- it's really really sharp and actually hurts my hand. Other than the poor value of the Air Lite, I like the Air Lite.

There are similarities. Kind of like comparing a liner lock (Marksman) to a frame lock (AD-15)

I could not have said it better myself! I have been a Cold Steel fan for many moons now ... I have 7x of their blades. All old-skool made in Japan.
The constitution of India does not allow me to carry a firearm unless I wish to be legally restricted to a .32 caliber (which you can stick up your arse) fucking peashooter.
But I can carry blades as long as they are 9" or less in blade length and I can also use lethal force if I am attacked either in my home or on the road.
I will leave only 2 or 3 wound cavities which the Police will not see as excessive and thus will never see the inside of a court!
The san Quinten shanking routine will leave many stab wounds and photographs of the body will make the attack look extremely excessive so Police will be forced to ask you questions based upon that.
You will still not see the inside of a court if the assailant had a weapon. Because it is self-defense!
In India, the right to self-defense is protected under Sections 96 - 106 of the Indian Penal Code.
Your right to carry legal concealed weapons is protected under Section 4 (weapons act 1959) of the Indian Penal Code.
Weapons that are legal include both impact and edge-based. So your duster/batons etc ...
Here is a man who does not shy away from knives being weapons either ... I have also followed Luke for many moons.

i like um! I carry a Frenzy every day & its only for defense if needed, i never use it to open a boxes or show to anyone! its a skinny folding sword that is a great poker.
The wife carries a Code 4 & that is a great knife too!
Both knives will accept & function with a SnaggleToothMF Mod, so you can deploy the knife by snagging pocket! (snaggletoothMf might fit on sum others knives, for pocket deployment! check `um out!)
The Tri-ad lock is the best & worst thing about Cold Steel folders, you can't really break them with your own strength but sometimes they are difficult to close/unlock untill Broken`in. just don't be a wuss~LOL
if you want the best CS quality try to buy a Italian or USA made 4max, if budget allows, if not try a Taiwan made 4max for $110.?
I do think they are a little over priced but that triad lock, beats all!

I love Cold steel knives have a bunch of them but I hate GrivEx. It's too damn slippery. They need to use a reinforced nylon or some type of plastic like the material in Spyderco handles.
