1972 H2 Kawasaki Triple "A Show Bike is Born"

  • We restored the 1974 Z1 900 "Project Green" for our customer Phil. Once this was completed, he asked us to find an H2 750 Triple like the one he rode cross country as a young man. We literally dug one out of our warehouse that we think fits the bill.
    Enjoy and have a very, Merry Christmas and Happy and Safe 2019.

    fabulous, I never had one but away's wanted to own this bike, its not for speeding on but just the magic that this bike had in the day, yes give it a blast but its owning something like this that's the reward, nice job.

    I love that there are guys rebuilding and restoring these bikes. When I drive around the area I live, I see the buildings that were once motorcycle dealerships. Some had 30 plus bikes in the show room at that time. A few of the buildings remain but none even have business of any kind.

    Memories abound.... I bought a new 1971 H1 in January of 71, and then the H2 came out in 72. I wanted one really bad, but could never come up with the 500.00 difference....GREAT WORK....Sure glad you didn't let us down by not starting it I was getting worried....Loved the Drive away......Thanks.

    In 1972 I was 16 years old and not legally allowed to ride a motorbike (you need to be 18 over here) so I rode my Yamaha FS1 moped. But there was a guy in our small village who owned an H2 just like this one. How I envied him!! Later on I got involved in triples but not the Kawasaki's. The British BSA / Triumph push rod threes instead. Still love the H2 though - what a gem. In the early seventies it was something from outer space - and it probably still is.

    I love it when a plan comes together! A buddy used to race a blue '72 H2 in the AFM (numberplate #818) and did really well with it. His tip was to keep the arms and upper body relaxed, and just let 'er squirm. Tighten up and things went south quickly. He rode that bike to a seventh place in the 1978 AMA superbike event at Sears Point.

    I had one of these before I got my 750/5. If you happen to own one of these H2's, I recommend strongly, very strongly, you do not ever let a friend or potential buyer take it out for a spin. These bikes require a certain specific method of operation, particularly over 80 MPH. Coasting should be avoided at all cost. Be on the throttle or on the brakes. Repeat... DO NOT COAST.

    Super Nice! I ran into one of these on the road one day after I had upgraded myself from the '71 H1 to the green '76 KZ 900. He wanted to race but I chickened out, not wanting to get beat by that scary two stroke. I was a relatively new rider and did not think I could outrace him and I did not want to lose status by having that H2 beat my 'fastest bike on the street'. Maybe next time... Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year, Johnny!

    If you ever decide to get an H2, get the '72...after all the mags called it a widow maker in their tests Kawi got a little gun shy and rejetted (leaned out) the '73 and '74 and also made the swing arm longer...they were still badass scooters but the '72 was a special beast (a former two class AMA Expert License holder in 125cc Motocross and 250cc Road Race who bought an almost new '72 H2 in my Sr. year in H.S. in 1975).

    • @stevefowler2112
      @stevefowler2112 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @DominoYeah I have ridden both in that period, I had a buddy who had an H1...it was a fun bike and was peaky but I used to eat his lunch on my H2...we both ended up having expansion chambers and I went further with 32mm Mikunis and my Motocross racing engine man (My Dad the Engineer out at Cape Canaveral) gave me a modest port job...I ran a 11:74 at the drags when I was a Sr. in H.S. with her. The 72 H2 was a really fun scooter.
