Dude. I'm only 19, but I remember every single album The Used released because my sister (7 years older than me) was the biggest influence on my musical interests and this was one of her favorite bands. I'm just glad they haven't sold out and still kick ass like they did back then.

If you knew anything about Bert, you'd know he had a drug problem. This is what the song is about. "Don't make it look so pretty burning" as in don't make drugs look so glamorous because it will ruin your life.
HAH im six years late but it turns out, it says "to me it looks so pretty burning". imo, he means he loves the drugs, and loves the way it is ruining his life in a weird, twisted way. idk lol just my take on it

Thanks for sharing what it's about it though. I never really thought about it, which is weird because I used to have a serious drug problem years ago. I guess the drugs is probably why I wasn't really analyzing anything; just being fucked up everywhere.

I'm 62 and I'm still listening to them AND saw them in concert 2 years ago. Also saw the night Bert spit water on the stage at the beginning of this song and he fell and broke his hand AND he performed the rest of the entire set. I was backstage when EMTs came and wrapped it up. Bert is an amazingly dedicated performer!!

I had a cyst removed when I was eight years old. It was on the back of my head, and skull had to be cut I guess. Anyways I had to be awake and alert the entire time. I was allowed to borrow my father's Walkman and a tape. The Wallflowers- Bringing Down The Horses is etched in to my memory so impressively deep.

Dude I'm turning 30 next week and I remember exactly when songs like this came out. Ugh I was really into this type of music in high school and still am to this day. I have an even stronger appreciation for it now than ever. IDK how "in the scene" I would have been back then if music like this was readily available as it is now. As for Shalee, I don't know if you like the new Used but I think its absolutely horrible. I wouldn't even call it "selling out". It's just plain bad. Their first two CDs were good. The first was the best. Fantastic even. Everything after those we complete trash and when I hear it, it makes me embarrassed that I like the first two. Its sad, really sad. If you like all of their cd's youll probably say I'm not a true fan, when that just isn't the case. I just don't like gay ass music. But if you don't like their newer stuff either, than all the better.

Alexander Taves Honestly, I have to agree; I really like their first two albums as well, but it seems to me that they've lost their touch or something. For me, they've always been one of those bands that certainly have a bit of a distinctive sound. (I really like Bert's voice in general tbh)
I honestly can't imagine why they would bother to put out an album that they would consider to be so unsatisfactory, (since I've heard a lot of people saying similar things, I can't imagine that they didn't realize it wasn't up to par) instead of perhaps scrapping it and starting over? (Then again, studio time and budget may have played a role, too)
But I totally get what you mean tbh; I'm extremely picky about quality music as well, and I prefer to call it as I see it. (No worries though, that "true fan" stuff kinda doesn't apply with The Used, because I'm more of a casual fan of their music..I'd say my favorite band is probably My Chemical Romance)

It’s amazing how many people hear stuff like this and go “See! He said ‘take my life’! Emo music is all about suicide and they’re trying to kill our kids!” Blah blah… when most emo music is actually about overcoming struggles, learning to cope so you can survive and finding ways to keep living.
It’s literally the exact opposite of what most people used to assume. There definitely is emo music about wanting to die or give up, but it’s a very small minority.
Most emo/hardcore was about how life sucks but you basically have to keep going. You have no more options when you’re dead. If you stay alive, things have a chance to get better and it’s up to you to try.
