  • Tree companies deliver logs for free. I split wood to heat my home, and to sell a little bit. I get $30 for that small rack, and i can do 4 in an hour. $120 - overhead. I do this very part-time, and enjoy a cold one while i enjoy the split sesh

Having sold firewood for 20 years I can attest that there is a tremendous amount of work involved with cutting, transporting, splitting, stacking etc. The more simple you can make things the better. You have the best splitter on the market and the best scenario is to have people bring the wood to you and people come pick it up. Most people probably don’t understand that the motor just needs to keep the flywheels spinning. If you operate the motor just above idle to keep the oil pressure up in the motor that’s all it needs to split with a kinetic splitter. Good job on keeping it simple.
I have had it all all the way up to a diesel processor and I currently use an electric super split. Best machine out there!

I burn full time for heat (#$%*&% the oil man) I generally burn approx. 4.5 to 5 cords a season (give or take 5 months) and I love it. I to get free wood in log or length form, and its turned into quite the hobby to cut, split & stack. Some of my friend question the effort I put into it (I stay 3 years ahead, so I have approx. 15 cords split and stacked at all times) But the pay off to me of moving around, exercising and saving money on my heat bill is priceless.

Kenny P i firepit in summer , and i burn in afternoons till evening all winter long. I buy 10 gallons of diesel a week during winter and only use burner for hot water rest of year. I sell a few cords a year in small quantity.

Nice to see a kinetic splitter in action...I wasnt sure it would handle knotty wood, but I see it does at half speed even.
I am thinking of upgrading from a little electric 5 ton splitter.
I have gas heat and no woodstove, but I cut, split and haul rounds gleaned from my area...sold 2 cord this year.....I just do it for the exercise and to prove (to myself) I can still cut it at 71yo....have to hand split and quarter the big rounds...

My first splitter was a Homelite 5 ton Electric/hydraulic splitter. I set it on a folding table so i would work at waist height. Split about 3 cords a year with it to heat my home. Still splitting at 71? I’m ready to quit, and I’m only 46 😂

    • @optimoprimo132

My Firewood Gig I know what you are saying.... Your splitter is actually pretty good because it has rest for the wood. My problem is that when I use the splitter by myself I'm having to grab at wood falling on ground that I'm not finished splitting yet. It would be the same when splitting by hand except for the fact that I made the platform with a tire to keep wood contained so I'm not wasting time and energy chasing after pieces falling of splitting log and also it saves the back.... Also for the past 2 years I have burned myself out doing 30 cord by the end. I start in March and next thing you know it is late summer or early fall and I realize that's all I have done. Every year I swear to myself I won't do more than 10 cord for the farm instead of extra to sell and every year I convince myself I can do it... Like it's addicting once I'm out there.
