    For anyone considering buying the cookbooks: would highly recommend it!
    I made so many of these TH-cam dishes and they were all great. I have a full pantry of all these Asian products now. Thought it was about time to actually buy the books.
    Did not regret it. So many great dishes and the books are beautiful as well.
    Wil, please keep making awesome plates of food for us. Thank you so much 🫶

    Oh my, this brings back memories.
    I'm half Japanese and grew up on military bases, so mom always made yakisoba out of a dried Chinese noodle that is kind of like soba noodles, and Bulldog brand tonkatsu sauce, because that's the closest you could get to the regular ingredients on an American military base. (plus the usual meat & veggies, of course).
    When dad was stationed in Germany in the late 70s/early 80s, we met a Japanese violinist living in Germany playing in a German orchestra who told us that he made yakisoba from spaghetti and A1 brand steak sauce.
    FYI, in my opinion, yakisoba is best made on a flat-top griddle rather than a wok. Put the noodles in first and leave them undisturbed on the heat to get a bit of Maillard crust on the noodles.
    To anyone wanting to experiment with fusion dishes, keep in mind that Italians put the salt in the water, but Asians tend to put the salt in the noodles. If you salt the water and cook Asian noodles, you'll end up with something too salty. Always read the package instructions when cooking with an unfamiliar noodle.

    This is really close to my usual noodle stir fry! I usually cook the noodles for two minutes less than the package calls for, and it is amazing how they soak up the sauce and make up for the fact that I usually can’t find any food noodles in my rural location. Love your channel!

    I actually did this recipe tonight with a bit of a twist to it. I took Bob's Red Mill TVP crumbles and added it to some broccoli and peppers that I was stir frying. I stir fried it all in a little bit of butter with some garlic, scallions, red pepper flakes, and added a mixture of vegetable broth paste, mushroom oyster sauce, soy sauce, and a bit of the cooking liquid from the whole grain spaghetti that I used. Tossed it all together and it made a really nice sauce. Reminds me of some of the local ground pork noodle dishes. Added a little bit of fresh cilantro at the end and it was perfect.

    After following you for quite some time, I finally took the time to read the description of the video. Now I can explain (to myself) why I am so drawn to your work: it is because of your background in the visual arts. The aesthetic of your products, including the videos, is very appealing. I literally swapped all my noodles with pasta spaghetti or linguine. I have used noodles only a few times when cooking at home, and I have been eating Asian dished for years. In take away everything would be served with noodles, of course. Pasta is much easier to find and stockpile. It is delicious and there are no changes required in the recipes ;)

    • @pavel9652
      @pavel9652 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am glad some people found the comment useful! ;) Just to reiterate, use linguine which is a noodle-like type of pasta. From distance, it looks like spaghetti and is packed the same way, but it is flattened and reassembles noodles upon closer inspection ;) I find it better than spaghetti, especially for Asian dishes. In the shop where I buy food there are occasional pasta shortages (in Europe), so stockpile if you can. I could buy noodles but while there are entire shelves of pasta, there are usually only a handful of noodles available and they are more expensive. So for me, this is a matter of availability and logistics. Live long and prosper! ;)
