- Relocated my Oil Temp sesnor from the oil sump back to a sandwich plate.
Notes:
1 Plastic under pan cover fits with no plenty of room with this setup.
2 drove the car and saw higher temps as expected. 195 -200 F.
3 replaced oil thermostat by one of the same kind (180 F). Mishimoto replaced it under warranty because I thought it was defective. I am seeing warmer temps on the outlet port. This confirms that my original state wasn't working well.
Hey mate, the npt sensor location on the side of the gold sandwich plate...why is it not a good location for temperature readings?
Im using one on a 1JZ with a mishi oil cooler and thats where i have my temperature/pressure sensor. Weird thing im trying to figure out is on long drives where I know the engine is hot, is the pressure reads well but the temperature begins to drop off, as if that position only reads the temp coming back from the cooler, not overall engine oil temps. On hot days, in start/stop traffic here in Sydney, Aus the oil readings get to 75°C/167°F and doesnt get higher, but on long drives at freeway speeds, the oil temp drops down to 35°C/95°F...scary when i first saw it, however the sump has been measured with a temp gun and its in normal ranges.
Whats your thoughts?
Oil temp sensor on the sandwich plate shows temp out of engine. Oil goes into the engine through the passage inside of the filter adapter.
Love your set up
Thank you
Is the sandwich plate adapter for the sensors a universal one from mishimoto and can the oil filter fit directly to it? I'm not interested in the oil cooler plate. Thanks
Yes it's standard. Sorry for the late response.
How have you routed the oil cooler hoses?
Thanks
do you have any clearance issues using the factory oil cooler under the oil cooler setup?
No, I do not. (thankfully)
Typically from what I've been told is that you will only run into issues if you're running equal length headers such as killer bee.. it forces the oil filter to sit right next to the header and have little to no gap.
What kind of oil temperatures are you seeing from your oil in winter and in the summer?
I have not had a chance to drive the car in "winter" and I try to avoid it. However, normal oil temps on the street are 190-200F. At the track 230-240F. The oil cooler does lower those temps about 20F. (I have a sensor on the outlet). Hope this helps.
That is actually okay.
Where did you purchase the adapter from the sensor to the plate ?
Came with in it the box from mishimoto.
subaru forester 2015 ?????
2015 STI (Sedan)
Where is the oil temperature sensor on a 2012 Subaru wrx. I don’t want to use a sandwich plate adapter
